I had a friend who was mostly into country and thought Pac was just another gangster rapper. So I played her the first verse of Keep Ya Head Up and watched her eyes get wide... Nobody was talking about women's issues like he was. At least, nobody on his level of magnitude. And yes, he would sometimes talk about bitches and hoes, but he also made a point that he was literally talking about "bitches". And "hoes". He was like "go out on the street and ask any woman if they know any bitches or hoes. That's who I'm talking about. Not women." Which is fair enough.

@@PoorIQJo Lyrically all of them are better... Tupac just has more accolades/impact and in J Cole/Kendrick case he barely has that over them, I'm a HUGE fan of Pac but if you actually listen unbiased and u know rap u know this is facts
He wrote this masterpiece at the age of 19 , he was so mature and way ahead of his time at such a young age talking about real issues happening and now lives on through his music .. legend
You should watch the interview on UA-cam regarding the young girl he raped, Ayanna. Then look up video of his 17yr old high school interview. He's not who they are making him out to be.
...and then a few short years later he sexually assaulted a young woman and ruined her life and then women like you praised him for his talent. Shame on you.
People like 2pac don't live long but they leave an unforgettable Mark for generations...the hate around him was too much.... listening into many of his songs he kinda sense that he was not going to live longer...I remember in one of his interview on he was ask how is he planning with his music and he said I WANT MY MUSIC TO CHANGE THE WORLD.
"In love with a molester who's sexin' her crazy." I have mad love for this line. The whole song is real, don't get me wrong...but this in particular is something that a lot of artists don't do. He sugarcoated nothing. These words stung like nothing else I've ever felt and maybe that's because I've been a victim of similar circumstances, but also because he made no effort to make this easier for anyone to handle hearing. No mercy for the sake of mercy. That's truly beautiful. "Well let me show you how it affects our whole community." This is another line that I found I admired quite a lot. People very rarely see beyond self...and because they don't, nothing is changing. People are so consumed with their own existence that nobody is helping anyone...which ultimately results in criminals walking free. Hell, most are even too self absorbed to think that those criminals may target them...or their children... "Just 'cause you're in the ghetto doesn't mean you can't grow." And finally, that last line that stood out to me- the one part of this song that intended to give the listener hope. The single bit of encouragement and positivity he left as part of this piece, to at the very least remind young women like Brenda that there can be a way out. Sometimes people can't rise from the depths without a hand willing to help lift them up... It felt like this was his way of saying "I'll be your voice. You're not fighting this by yourself." Anyways... I just felt like sharing my thoughts...
+D0PAMiiNE True... he spat it like he witnessed it and he probably he did... there were a lot of "Brendas" in the '80s... that kind of story made the news a lot back then... the lines that really raise my brow: "she tried to hide her pregnancy from her family... who really didn't care to see or give a damn if she... went out and had a church of kids... as long as when the check came, they got first dibs" That shit is so fuckin' true and sad... the welfare dependency at the expense of a young girl's health and mental state... smh
Dude same this song makes me emotional every time. I mean I'm a hillbilly, always loved Tupac and this music is beyond all borders and barriers of human differences. True art.
@@crono3339 Man same, I couldn't agree more with you and I'm not even American, I'm Russian and I cannot think of a single rapper off the top of my head who would outmatch 2pac. In all honesty, I highly doubt there's anyone, so much sets him apart from the rappers of the contemporary world. Someone mentioned somewhere down in the comments that the song is based on a true story, I mean like I would be flatout surprised really if it wasn't. I feel like he envisioned music as a powerful tool capable of empowering people to detect issues and solve them, ultimately changing the world for the better, and he mastered this tool just perfectly. He made his mark and built a legacy that shines to this day and will shine in the years to come.
waaaaaaaay ahead of his time .....shit he rapped about 20 years ago are still the main issues in the world today....hearing him speak in his teens and early 20's then listening to rappers that age now days and you feel bad that they didnt learn from anything form the prophet

Tupac is a funny thing man. I grew up basically during his heyday. And I've always been a fan since same song from Digital Underground. But back in those days when I was a Youngster I was just bumping it, feeling the music you know? Now I sit there and analyze the lyrics on a deeper level and I'm like man this dude was something else. His message was so evolved and intellectual for the 90s.
Nah bro cause people today would cancel him saying that it's too sexual and it's not right to talk about this type of stuff. He's perfect in his own time
@@MecoLucas1 man this was created in 1991. The construction of samples and the presentation was ahead of work of what was current at his time. This is why 2Pac is the most influential rapper of all time.
I never knew it was Dave hollister on the hook until years ago I saw his interview. 2pac wrote the hook and sung out how he wanted the singers to sing this hook. He did that for many of his songs … “She didn’t know, what to throw away and what to keep, She wrapped the baby up and threw her in the trash heap. I guess she’d thought she’d get away, wouldn’t hear the cries, She didn’t realize, how much the little baby had her eyes … “ Rest Easy Mr. Shakur … if only you knew the IMPACT you Made in the Hearts and Minds of Billions !!!
+Truth I asked my mom and dad why people are into such sexual songs these days and they said "Because that's what they're into" and I'm just like "Oh god humanity needs to keep it's pants on"

Tupac released '2pacalypse Now' when he was only 20. Can you imagine any of these young rappers today writing anything at this level of depth and artistic quality today? ...Mind blowing. Still one of my favorite albums and least appreciated works of art of the past half century.
@@phinexblit9029 I could see some elements of that, but not near the artistic quality and content of the work Tupac did on 2pacalypse. XXXTentacion had a lot of talent though and could have developed into a much more powerful artist. So tragic to think about.
And to think Tupac never even made it to 30. He had so much knowledge so much more to give, I’m 42 now as a grown man his lyrics hit even harder than they did as a youngster

Comments are always like "if you listen to this in *insert year here* youre a legend," but this is different because you acknowledge it ain't just about the music its about the message. Songs like this, Changes, and Ghetto Gospel to name a few still play like they were written yesterday because pac knew if we didnt make that change ourselves they wouldnt come now 25 years later were still waiting for those changes. He sang about how we gotta love life not take it. He said what we needed not what we wanted so we ignored him. Man was a preacher in the streets and no one listened.

He wrote this masterpiece at the age of 19 , he was so mature and way ahead of his time at such a young age talking about real issues happening and now lives on through his music .. legend
You speak true
@@TK67162 Well, it didn't and he was a rapist.
"In love with a molester who's sexin' her crazy."
I have mad love for this line.
"Well let me show you how it affects our whole community."
This is another line that I found I admired quite a lot.
People very rarely see beyond self...and because they don't, nothing is changing. People are so consumed with their own existence that nobody is helping anyone...which ultimately results in criminals walking free. Hell, most are even too self absorbed to think that those criminals may target them...or their children...
"Just 'cause you're in the ghetto doesn't mean you can't grow."
And finally, that last line that stood out to me-
the one part of this song that intended to give the listener hope.
The single bit of encouragement and positivity he left as part of this piece,
to at the very least remind young women like Brenda that there can be a way out.
Sometimes people can't rise from the depths without a hand willing to help lift them up...
It felt like this was his way of saying "I'll be your voice. You're not fighting this by yourself."
Anyways...
I just felt like sharing my thoughts...
Your thoughts were appreciated.
+D0PAMiiNE True... he spat it like he witnessed it and he probably he did... there were a lot of "Brendas" in the '80s... that kind of story made the news a lot back then... the lines that really raise my brow:
"she tried to hide her pregnancy from her family... who really didn't care to see or give a damn if she... went out and had a church of kids... as long as when the check came, they got first dibs"
That shit is so fuckin' true and sad... the welfare dependency at the expense of a young girl's health and mental state... smh
That shit still happens, man...more often than most people think...it's just that nobody's saying anything about it because
"that's not our problem".
I don't know if you already contribute to it, but Rap Genius needs you dearly.
The more people who analyze or take deep feelings from 2Pac's poetry, the better
Middle aged white guy sitting here with tears. Ive listened many times and it still gets me. None like Tupac, ever.

He made his mark and built a legacy that shines to this day and will shine in the years to come.
when you realize he was 20 years old...
He was too real at a young age.
yeah he was more mature, had more charisma and accomplished more things in life (knew more about life as well) than 99% of adults

Tupac is a funny thing man. I grew up basically during his heyday. And I've always been a fan since same song from Digital Underground. But back in those days when I was a Youngster I was just bumping it, feeling the music you know? I never knew it was Dave hollister on the hook until years ago I saw his interview.
2pac wrote the hook and sung out how he wanted the singers to sing this hook. He did that for many of his songs …
“She didn’t know, what to throw away and what to keep,
She wrapped the baby up and threw her in the trash heap.
I guess she’d thought she’d get away, wouldn’t hear the cries,
She didn’t realize, how much the little baby had her eyes … “

Comments are always like "if you listen to this in *insert year here* youre a legend," but this is different because you acknowledge it ain't just about the music its about the message. Songs like this, Changes, and Ghetto Gospel to name a few still play like they were written yesterday because pac knew if we didnt make that change ourselves they wouldnt come now 25 years later were still waiting for those changes. He sang about how we gotta love life not take it. He said what we needed not what we wanted so we ignored him. Man was a preacher in the streets and no one listened.
