So the Sabres get rid of a $9 Million player playing on the 3rd line in Skinner, but bring in an $8 Million player to play on the 3rd line in Logan Couture (coming off an injury).
I’m gonna need Couture’s contract to be 50% Retained to be open to the idea of him coming via trade
3rd team would've to get involved. Sharks have 3 deals already like that. 3 is the limit per team.

I was 11 when No Goal happened, it felt like a slow death, we were so close, it almost made me stop watching but i just believed my dad when he said they could get back if they repeat their performance of last year. They didnt do it then the Rigas disaster and and a lot of uncertainty. I didnt watch as much cause i thought the Sabres were goners but then 05-06 happened and then the heartbreak again but i bleieve they could repeat and make it all the the way tot the Cup and i would finally have witnessed greatness and then 06-07 was an amazing ride but didnt feel the same as 05-06 and then heartbreak again. Guess what? I believed everything would turn around again soon and then it was a steady decline into the pit of darkness that has dampened my mood of this team the last 13 years but it all has to turn around at some point, right? Been here since 1993 when May Day happened, seen a lot of amazing games and a lot of playoff heartbreak, the life of a Buffalo sports fan lol
Buying out Skinner is a bad look. Honor the contract and move on. Let Ruff get his hands on him and lets see what happens. Not like hes never coached a player like him before.
Exactly, plus it better serves to buy Skinner out next year opposed to this year. But, where there's smoke there's fire so who knows
Are we still looking at Travis Konecny or Morgan Frost from the Flyers? I'd be a lot more excited about either of them. I guess Konecny would be more likely.
I do hope they sign/trade for a center plus a player like domi that can play both center and wing so we have depth/insurance at center
The Sabres have plenty of cap space, this year and next. A buyout means 6 years of cap hits, most of them when the Sabres will need it.
Domi takes stupid penalties
Cap keeps going up and Skinners buyout doesnt cost much 5 out of the 6 years
Sabres need an impact player. At 35 I would guess Couture has lost a few steps. Domi has moved around a lot - must be a reason he hasn't stayed in one place very long. I would look at Chandler Stephenson - if the Sabres could afford him. He's 30 and has 2 Cup rings and would fit the 3rd line center position for a number of years.
Kane and Skinner on the same team? No. One of them has got to go. I'm an old Sabres fan who played organized hockey. The Buffalo Sabres need 3 players who are mentally strong, confident, physical, and miserable to play against. That's what the Sabres need. Anything aside from these needs I Vote: No confidence.
Couture no
My biggest problem with a Skinner buyout this year is who is going to replace him you already lost, Mittelstadt, Okposo, and they are most likely not going to resign Girgensons or Olofsson. That would be 4 wholes on offense to fill spend some money bring in new players and buy him out next year when it's cheaper to resign players on the team already.
Keep Skinner and add Domi. No need of Couture.
I don't have a problem with buying Skinner out, but the Sabres better have a plan for replacing his offense. The team's offense last season was nothing special even with Skinner scoring 24 goals. Couture for Skinner would have to be an even swap, nothing added, given the uncertainty around Couture's health and abilities. The Sharks would be getting the more sure-fire player in Skinner, so no need to add. No to Domi - 5'10" is being extremely generous, more like 5'8".
Peterka outplayed skinner for Top line minutes that is on jeff and jeff alone. Skinner couldnt even do anything on the 2nd line cuz he was outworked by Benson. Soooo if he cant do anything on a 3rd line then whats the point of keeping a 9 million dollar player playing 3rd line minutes? There is no point
As a 15 yr old teen watching no goal i was so pissed and sad at the same time. What i heard over the years is that the Ref went to call uo to Toronto to review the goal but everyone in Toronto were not in the room any longer. Idk if its true or not but it was Def no goal. But whatever its 25 years and i dont wanna even think about.

No to buyout this offseason. Trading him is the answer. A player that can pop off for 35+ goals is a player anyone could use. There’s many players like this. Like include him in a Marner trade with contract held. We have everything needed to complete that trade. If we can’t find a partner let’s just see how he does under Ruff. Next offseason I’d buy him out.
An injured 35-year old with three years left on his contract, great idea of a trade target! If Skinners too old so is Couture! It makes no sense if we release Skinner and then trade for Couture.

They buy out Skinner freeing up some cap room. I watched another show on UA-cam about "Where momma hides the cookies". They were talking about the Colorado Avalanche's off-season UFA's and RFA's. I joked about trading Mittelstadt back to the Sabres. What about trading the 11th overall for Mittelstadt's rights. Might have to add a prospect.

I'll never understand how we can sit here complaining about skinners age and contract and then say we should go after couture who's got a similar contract and even older in the same video. "he'll be 35 by the end of his contract" so we should go after the 35 year old who be 38 at the end of his contract?
so celebrate skinner's 1000th game with a dedicated patch, ..... then buy him out a few games later.
kane doesn’t want to come to buffalo because he wants a chance to win. if the sabres stop underachieving and make the playoffs, i’m pretty sure he would be interested. can’t see any older player, that still has options, that would actually want to go to buffalo.
Ruff would bench Skinner 10 games into the season. He wouldn’t put up with his lack of any effort away from the puck. Trade won’t happen so a buy out is our only option. People that know the game know he is a liability.

Statically in the last few years Skinner is better than Laine with less locker room issues if they both get traded it would be a one for one.
