Yeah, my first thought would be that treating them like a celebrity when they are on a casual outing would be annoying. That the best thing to do is treat them like any other person. Kinda shocking to learn that treating them like that is just as stressful and annoying
Agree, and I thought it was respectful not to interrupt anyone, even if they are public figures, to tell them something like "I'm a big fan by the way" - and waiting until there was a natural opening to do so, or NOT in most cases, so I kind of understand not saying anything, or doing it at a later point. It's like, its not WHY I'm talking to you (in the case of a parent of your children's friends), it just happens to be, but I was primarily talking to you about whatever it is our kids are into, etc? The perspective Linus presents is definitely not one I had considered.
Yep - never occurred to me either. When ive met people i recognised i say nothing and treat them like a regular person. I also dont mention that i know who they are before they leave. I understand what linus and luke are worried about but that wouldn't be an issue with me - it wouldnt occur to me to listen to what they are saying then post about it afterwards. Most people who see a famous figure in public are going to try and wrack their heads around how and if they should interact with them. They aren't really considering the way you carry yourself candidly and how you wouldn't want to be seen like that. They are too busy thinking "I don't want to make this awkward, so I'll keep the interaction as short as possible and then leave so I'm not considered a stalker." Cause one thing that I think a lot of content creators in particular don't seem to fully grasp is that their appearance on camera is like how peak-a-boo works with babies when it comes to viewers. If you cover your face in front of a baby, it's like you disappear from reality. Your existence vanishes. Then you reappear when you reveal your face. It's the same thing with online interactions: it's difficult for people to fathom that the person on the other side of the monitor has an entire life that they are living outside of what is shown on screen. So if all you ever do, as a public figure, is show off a side of you that is high energy and entertaining and just a particular way, you kinda have to expect that a large portion of your audience is going to think that is how you are all of the time. I mean, it's the entire reason why Twitter drama exists. People have a hard time comprehending that a single off-Tweet from someone somehow doesn't represent the value of a person's entire life and experiences.
So I'm an electrician. Something I thought was pretty cool was one of the properties I got to work on was a fella who had some sort of international business dealings . Luke (doing this because you'll read it) The whole not saying you know you is not just being rude or anything. I have done that to some semi famous people, because i don't want our interaction to be tainted by the fact that I know them. I work with some semi famous (ex)sports people, and if i tell them i know them the whole conversation shifts and they get way more guarded. And i know that's why you want to know, but it's impossible to have a normal conversation with people like that. We're not speaking with you because we're fans, we're speaking with you because you're our colleague or in linus' example the parent of your child's friend. We want the context of that conversation to be that, not the fact that you run a youtube channel.
First off with the kinds of personalities these two seem to have. I highly doubt they're going to have the same reaction as a sports player, second off in the parent example, that parent is likely going to interact again, and lying by omission is not going to get that relationship off to a good start
I wish Linus explained what it is about the parents of other kids not revealing that they know who he is that bothers him. I would imagine would be nice just having a normal interaction with other parents, kind of surprised to hear it bothers him if they leave it until the end.
Yeah like if you lead in with the comment that you are a fan, then he will most likely formulate his opinion on you based on that fact, and might start over thinking his interaction.
I think it's because it makes the interaction seems forced afterwards? "Did I just have a good chat with my sons friends dad about the football game they're playing or is he only talking to me because I'm Linus and his son wants to meet me?". That kind of stuff. Idk, could be wrong though.
Even i was but then you realize that you might just reveal confidential information accidentally or if the person changed his personality or behaviour beacsue of linus
I think it's because you wonder about the motivation for keeping it hidden. Like not that they do know you, but that they do but don't want to say and then decide later to use that information. It feels weirdly calculated.
I’d imagine that being aware that you’re interacting with a fan gives you a clear separation between personal and work life - outside of avoiding disclosing company/financial/personal info
Man the debate about fan/sub interaction with a YT persona is very interesting. On one hand Linus and Luke are right from their POV, I know is very difficult to get in their shoes but these people have very different kinds of social anxiety than us, because for us is only awkward in the moment we see and realize who they're but for them we're just one of the bunch of people they find o a daily basis that "know" them and they're waaayyyyyy more seasoned than us. Then on the sub/fan side is very nerve wracking for us to figure out in the moment what is the most respectful but least intrusive interaction we can have, because we already know that you guys know we recognized you so saying nothing would be odd, if it's just a sudden encounter that we never se each other again it's easier because it's just a "Hi big fan" maybe a photo or something and that's it but if it's while doing an activity (riding a plane, dining, etc...) We really don't want to ruin your experience so we just try not to say anything until that activity it's over or just straight up not say anything but yeah, always awkward nonetheless 🤣
I had an experience like this. I'm a big fan of this guy who's a pilot and has millions of subscribers. I've watched him forever when he only had a few hundred subs. About a month ago I saw him walking through DFW and I got so excited I dropped my pizza slice on my shirt. I must have looked crazy because he ran off as fast as possible before I could say hi. 😂🍕
Meeting UA-camrs is stressful because of how parasocial the relationship is. I've gone to conventions and met actual TV and movie stars but introducing myself to UA-camrs has felt too weird
The parasocial stuff gets odd. Because if you watch someone long enough it's like you know them but they dont even know of your existance. It's such a weird and unnatural relationship with another human. I've even caught myself being too involved in whats going on with a streamers life that I stopped watching for like a month.
@@l4kr It is very weird to know tons of personal stuff about a person and have them basically live in your computer screen and then see them in person. It's very different than "hey, I loved you in _____ show!"
@@Plague_Doc22 Not really unnatural it is actually common and perfectly fine as long as you don't make it creepy, like it goes both ways more so with people that stream however because they actually get to interact with chat and they will bond with the regular chatters and be sad if they suddenly stop chatting for a long time. Like Streamers and UA-camrs recognize people that frequent a lot and can't help but getting attached to them even though they know nothing about the person that is chatting/commenting
Hey I came from xqcs stream to your channel after seeing you on his stream and I've been really enjoying the content. Thanks for going on it as it's let me find a new favourite creator
The thing with Felix is that he a child which grew up in the internet and he never leared living by himself, that is why he orders food so much and probably also why he rebuys everything always and he probably couldn't even organize a move every three months. And I also don't think he really cares about the money he makes from streaming because he genuinely has fun doing it all day.
the time it would take XQC to make his own food is probably more efficiently spent streaming anyways, the amount of money he makes by saving that time is quite a bit.
I don't agree with his outside interactions pov. I had believed most people tend to not disclose they are fans in the beginning because we view it as respectful. Let's say on a plane I wouldn't want to be like "hey Linus huge fan" as we board or anything because then there would be an awkward ass flight for both. Yes I get it, discussing business near fans could be troublesome but that's more of a you need to learn how to discuss business while at public rather than begrudge potential fans for not disclosing their acknowledgement.
Exactly, I don’t get his take at all, but honestly if I did hear Linus talk about the details of his business in public and just heard his wife tell him not to do that I would keep my mouth shut lol
Isn’t it weird though? Like if you talked to a stranger and then at the end they basically reveal that they know more about you than you know about them?
@@seraph741 idk it feels like starting a conversation on uneven ground unless they say from the get go. i don't think there's an unawkward way to do it, so i would prefer that disclaimer i guess. i have no idea how it actually feels, just trying to empathize
I'm just too awkward to know what the right way to interact with a public figure is, it's not like an everyday thing. Hearing what they said, I'll probably just keep it to myself if I do meet a public figure again.
7:46 100% yes, if you know who someone is say strait away, as if it comes out in convo you will instently caurse a moment of mistrust and no one wants that.
on a flip side from a fan perspective (by the way big fan) some fans acknowledge you are just a person and may not necessarily enjoy being mobbed or interupted for an extended period of time. so to them acknowledging you as they are leaving is them being polite and not imposing themselves upon you for an extended period. where their mere presence could be uncomfortable for you.
OK, so if I get you: - Tip for you: assume you're always being listened to. (unfortunately, I think that drove many a personality to hate them status as such) - Tip for me: Simply never disclose I recognize personalities, ever, unless they come to be close friends. I want genuine interactions with people; I don't want to get the "fan" badge. That's also why I leave most personalities alone when I see them, if I have no other than fan reason to speak to them.
Interacting with celebrities seems quite complicated. I've seen mutiple instances of quite famous people wanting to just be treated like everyone else and to not have the conversation include their life. While some celebrities LOVE when fans come up, maybe ego boost, or just common appreciation. Regardless seems to be specific per person, so it seems difficult for a fan to have the 'right' reaction.
I double down on that. People have valid, personal reasons to behave the way they do, and from the pleb's point of view it is rather impossible to apprehend on which side they stand preemptively.
That wishlist of just everything you need for a new place is a great idea. I essentially did just that when I moved into my first place, and can honestly say that after comparing it to the cost of movers when I left there it worked out to be about the same cost if you keep most of the more expensive things and go budget for everything you replace that can't just fit in your own vehicle. I'll have to put together a moving day wishlist like that some time.
if i see a famous person and want to interact i'll probably just not do it, so if the opportunity arises and the timing feels like it wont be rude, maybe ill say something short related to their career so they can easily reply with a one word answer if they feel like it. but generally id rather just live my life and treat ppl as a normal person and let them bring it up if they feel like it; as i assume they're probably sick of talking abt it all the time or being pestered by strangers. i dont want them to have to second guess 'everything they've spoken abt for the last hour'...i hadn't considered that as an issue for them.
I think people don't like to disclose that they are a fan of a person right away because it changes the dynamic of the interaction with you. Though it would be kind of awkward if you were hanging out with somebody everyday for awhile and then they were like hey btw big fan of your work 🤣🤣.
Linus, I learned English because of you. I was thinking of spending my savings to go to ltx, from latam there are more than 2600 usd to travel to canada. but all the flights passing USA and I don't have a visa. You probably know it, but there is not much variety of hardware in Latam and the only way to experience it is on UA-cam.
Something to remember about the whole fans in public thing is 99.9% of them are just normal people who unless you are a giant asshole or something are not going to do anything about or with anything you say.
Just want to comment on this for Linus; People will always try to find something bad with you, your videos or your work. Mainly because you are just great. You are selfmade, care for others, really friendly and have a very good way of approaching stuff and dealing with situations like critique. You could say you are just a better person than most will ever be. Unfortionatly, this doesnt click well with some people as their reality is just that there aren't people like that in the world, so they will do everything to get you back into their version of reality. That it itself is sad for them, but this should not be something for you to take into account with every little thing you do wrong according to them. However you deal with this is on you, but I just want to say your a great guy and don't have to apologise or explain anything to me, as I know your heart is in the right place. Thanks for all the great videos and content you and your team make, keep at it!
I've actually thought about this a fair amount it's a tough interaction from both parties tbh. I've met well known people and I don't feel the need to acknowledge anything. But tbh if I met you IRL I would almost feel obligated to thank you for your work. Does that make me a fan you can't talk to... Idk. Waters that are very hard to navigate. Is someone supposed to pretend they dont who you are? And why does that change how you treat them?
White glove moving companies definitely exist because I've had to contact them myself for some CTOs. There's a contract signed and a lot of money involved.
If I had to guess, most people might feel like a bother if they just chat as fans immediately. So it might be an attempt at being polite by not saying anything until the end, because everyone wants a chance to at least say "hello", even if in practice it actually turns out to be more of an annoyance.
It's funny how Linus says the other guy is way more famous (and I'm sure he is) but I've never heard of the guy, but have watched Linus since the NCIX days
That's actually really interesting to know about disclosing that you are a fan of someone. I always had this idea that it was kind of like "hey I'm off the clock, I'm just a regular guy" because it seems like so many interviews with celebrities' has them saying that they wish people would sometimes just ignore their presence and treat them like a normal anonymous stranger.
Something I figured out years ago in my (low dollar/zero fame) travel in North America, almost everything is available almost everywhere and it's often cheaper to use the existing stores that are everywhere than to try to bring it all with you. When I fly it's usually with 1 backpack. When I "overland" (car camp) or road trip I never carry fuel or a big ice chest/fridge - whatever I need is available everywhere at least throughout CA/USA/MX - maybe with a convenience markup in some areas but that's fine. It's cheaper often than carrying it myself (buying more racks/luggage/containers, etc)
I think that I have a different view of a “fan interactions.” I work in live production where I have to interact with famous people from small acts to at ex president’s house. And we HAVE to stay professional and not fangirl. I have signed NDAs for weddings. And I have always viewed the off hand “I am a fan” tactic to be more professional then saying it upfront and first. Idk, from my non famous view it makes me assume that it is more of a personal interaction vs a “omg famous person” interaction.
7:58 they don't want to make you uncomfortable, like they are only talking to you as a fan of yours rather than as a fellow parent. I think you're being really uncharitable.
more like [if you're going to interact with them, and you're going to want to acknowledge that u know who they are, lead with that]. I don't think they'd care if you interacted with them as you would any other random joe off the street. it's the mid-interaction mindset flip between [i'm a pleb] to [i'm a public figure] that's probably the chore for them.
Honestly, people not leading with the fact that they know who you are might just be them trying to have a "normal" interaction with you. They probably don't want you to have to feel guarded around them.
Not starting off with "I'm a fan" may be them trying to engage with you as a normal parent rather than a viewer and then, they feel "Yeah, I should probably say something."
People don't open with how they know you because it's creepy and impolite. They're treating you like a person first and a "celebrity" second. If you want your conversations to be private, have them in *private*. It's not the general public's responsibility to bend over backwards for you, when you put yourself into a position of high visibility.
As i live in a small village, i don't really see "famous" people i recognize. But it never occured to me that saying you were a fan after talking a while would be awkward. Ill keep that in mind. Honestly i have always felt like those types of interactions are awkward and mostly considered just not mentioning it or approaching someone i would happen to recognize. I know i would prefer not to be approached personally.
If someone is having dinner/lunch, the polite person will not disturb you while you eat but they might feel that a "big fan" as they leave would be less disruptive.
If I had to move every 3 month I would probably quit streaming. Yes I like it and it’s fun but moving that much is just so hard one you in so many ways I don’t think it’s worth it.
It's probably also based on the type of audience he attracts. There are other streamers who have large audiences but they don't have to move around a lot.
@@oswingrochowski760 yeah, I think its more about cultivating a deranged community. All big streamers have weirdos stalking them, but this guy has A LOT of weirdos stalking him lmao
I just noticed skimming through the video a tad towards the end that the bottom ribbon bar thing moves up and down slightly over time. My first thought was that could be to prevent burn in for people that watch this on an OLED display for long periods of time (and yes while I know the display firmware should help prevent burn-in) if this was the reason for it, very smart 👍
It's interesting when they talk about fan interactions. If I met someone I watched and was a fan of, I'm not gonna immediately disclose that if we're having casual smalltalk because I don't want to skew their perception of me as a person and I don't want to project the impression that it's getting in the way of our conversation. If they ask, then yeah, I'll say - otherwise, I just treat 'em like a normal, decent human being.
its no surprise when you have the context of his address constantly gets doxxed and people break in to his house or swat him. Its happened so often that he's been constantly on the move for like a year if not more.
The fans who treat you like a normal person want a normal interaction. They don't want the PR Linus or Luke. You won't get the star treatment in maine. Hollywood folks have learned to appreciate it.
Honestly, I didn't even think about how the "big fan by the way" thing sucks. I'm gonna try to remember that from now on. I always just think I don't want to bother people. But it would make sense if you're interacting directly one to one.
Makes sense. When I worked on the road and moved houses for work every few months I picked up the habbit of only owning what can fit in my vehicle but to buy things new every time you move thats a little extreme.
Linus is right. Even with all of the effort he's put in trying to keep people from knowing where he lives, it's shockingly easy to get his address. I seriously hopes no one goes to his house or anything.
I don’t know man, it’s not your fans obligation to introduce themselves to you everywhere you go. Fame basically sucks, but it’s your burden not your fans.
0:52 Stop sounding like you complain about those people! Start sounding slightly discouraged but amused at the same time! Annoyance is fuel to antagonists. But amusement is poison! Don't lie, just think about it hard enough to see how sad or misguided one has to be to comment such things. Then laugh at their hate. Next time they want to do it, the memory of your amusement will discourage.
I remember a story Day9 told of being on the phone like dealing with student loan payments or something and the other person at the end of the call being like "by the way are you Day9?" you know, after he'd given like social and DOB stuff.
It’s so amusing how different people use social media… i’ve been watching UA-cam and been a part-time UA-camr for years. I’ve never even heard of that XC guy until your video the other day.
What's bad about not leading with anknowledging they know you? I don't get it. Would you treat parents of your kid friends differently if they are a fan?
Making idols out of people that are the best at sitting alone and communicating how they perceive games is insane. I would think exposing their lifestyle would cause people to question it but I guess not.
8:40 I know if someone's famous they're probably just trying to enjoy their lunch. I don't like to bother people or interrupt their day and not big on just interrupting someone's time to knowledge that I know they exist. If I bumped into them somehow then I'd say something otherwise, I'd rather them just be a friendly interaction so they have a better time about it because some people just don't like being bothered.
I ran into Colton randomly once at galaxy pho in chiliwack and I wanted to say hi but I also know there's a difference between being an "online personality" and a guy just trying to eat something and for me I would rather respect their privacy then randomly walk up to them and say hi and have them go through the same situation you described about talking about work things that maybe are not public knowledge and second guessing everything your about to say. I feel if I want to interact with one of you it's probably better to just do it at ltx or something. That being said I think it would be very hard to not say hey to linus or Luke if I stumbled upon them in the wild.
I will never approach someone like Linus or Luke while at dinner. When you are eating I understand that you most likely just want to be left alone so i will never approach someone while at dinner or lunch or anything. Just out of respect because they are people too.
Fans are probably doing it out of respect when they just talk to you as a normal person, they say "btw, big fan bye." at the end probably because they just want to show support and simply move on with their lives. Not to get secrets out of you, not that there isnt people like that but most of your fans are just trying to not to be an ass.
Also assuming he's not throwing away all the old stuff, it could be a sort of weird way of charity. I'm obviously not sure but it could definitely be helpful for some people to get that stuff with a new home/apartment

Why don't people just say "hi" and move on with their lives?
@@cat-le1hf he does it like once a year but you can't really name cooking he made scrambled eggs last time
I think you missed Linus' point around 6:39
@@seamik4 Yeah Andrew Tate talked about this, after a certain point when you earn enough even making food isn't financially smart.
Yeah he's useless otherwise, if he didn't have money. Got it.
@@Berilith The stranger could never mention it at all. Is that better?
@@seraph741 idk it feels like starting a conversation on uneven ground unless they say from the get go. i don't think there's an unawkward way to do it, so i would prefer that disclaimer i guess. i have no idea how it actually feels, just trying to empathize
It’s because it makes you wonder why they’re hiding it from you
xQc performs photosynthesis from the light coming off his monitor. He needs no other sustenance.
gold comment
i love you Luke, for that "on the surface he looks calm and ready"... that made me chuckle
OK, so if I get you:
- Tip for you: assume you're always being listened to. (unfortunately, I think that drove many a personality to hate them status as such)
- Tip for me: Simply never disclose I recognize personalities, ever, unless they come to be close friends.
Dude stop trying to please celeberities, they arent more valid than you
@@xXJeReMiAhXx99 Not really sure what you're trying to achieve. I'm here to please me and I wanted to comment my opinion.
I can't believe Andy had to stand there hunched with a camera for almost 4 hours in xqc's house
I didn't notice this during the stream, but that fold phone sitting up there next to Linus was in the danger zone A WHILE.
Your English is great! - LS
Same here hahahahah. Had to see some linus videos with subtitles, now i understand 90% of what they talk. The 10% left is usually technical stuff
Something to remember about the whole fans in public thing is 99.9% of them are just normal people who unless you are a giant asshole or something are not going to do anything about or with anything you say.
Just want to comment on this for Linus;
People will always try to find something bad with you, your videos or your work.
09:52 prophecy
4:26 oh trust me he does pull the cpu out of the socket and not only the cpu
HE SAW THE TOENAIL JAR
He also just buys a new house every time he moves. He literally owns like 6 houses
7:25 I can confirm these exist but are incredibly expensive and leaks still happen ALL the time
He still hasn't started using the PC that Linus fixed. It's in the background of the stream exactly where they left it.
Dang that must suck
Big fan btw 👁️👁️
So we have to acknowledge we know you every time we see you in public? Won't that get old very quickly?
more like [if you're going to interact with them, and you're going to want to acknowledge that u know who they are, lead with that].
“He looks calm and ready” :)
6:08 I didn't miss that reference Luke :D
"everything fits in the back of a car" He doesn't know 🤣
He lacks critical information
PepeLaugh what car
As i live in a small village, i don't really see "famous" people i recognize. But it never occured to me that saying you were a fan after talking a while would be awkward. Ill keep that in mind. Honestly i have always felt like those types of interactions are awkward and mostly considered just not mentioning it or approaching someone i would happen to recognize. I know i would prefer not to be approached personally.
leave it to linus to talk about ltt business to his wife while on vacation
Ignoring your assistant makes his life easier. All they are doing is making his life harder. Fn relaxation blockers.
Its happened so often that he's been constantly on the move for like a year if not more.
it was fun watching the 4hrs stream considering since you where there it was tame compared to other streams ive watched over the years
"On the surface" "... he looks calm and ready" hahaha
The fans who treat you like a normal person want a normal interaction. They don't want the PR Linus or Luke.
You won't get the star treatment in maine. Hollywood folks have learned to appreciate it.
“He’s calm and ready”
Colton’s line goes underrated, I laughed
In all seriousness, I never heard of xQc until I watched this video.
that life style if you move around a lot or do not want to commit to 1 specific place its normal to be minimalist
Famous MMA/Boxers it is worse. Drunk people will go up them and challenge them.
I honestly thought that waiting to interact would be polite but now this changes my perspective on it.
that stream was so chill
11:20 Your chillen Linus, your in the zone. But yeah different energy live streaming
Calm and ready. I hear you Luke.
I have no idea who this xq whatever is but I know you Linus....you my fav socknsandal guy.
Me: would probably fangirl a little if I met Linus, Luke, Riley, Anthony, or Steve from GN
Also me: what’s an XQC?
It’s so amusing how different people use social media… i’ve been watching UA-cam and been a part-time UA-camr for years. I’ve never even heard of that XC guy until your video the other day.
I have never tuned into the WAN show ever in my life but I have watched sooo many clips videos I have lost count now.
I think because he is like this that makes it entertaining.
Yeah colton who cares :p
5:22 welcome to amphetamines lol
6:10 we see you Luke
I want to know if theres going to be a video on LTT or other channel of the whole thing on your guys perspective
Luke just quoted Eminem !!!! 6:10 « He look calm and ready » Loose yourself. You are awesome Luke keep the good work!
you dont need food when ur pumped full of adderal lol
3:55 That’s *Insane* only xQc Wow
That's odd. When I'm around people I know they often just ignore me.
Apples and oranges.
I will never approach someone like Linus or Luke while at dinner. When you are eating I understand that you most likely just want to be left alone so i will never approach someone while at dinner or lunch or anything. Just out of respect because they are people too.
A lot of great questions in this ☝️
Ive moved a few celebrities, the move tends to be in an assistant name and the packing crew usually never meet the actual celeb only there helpers.
It was crazy to see him from overwatch Winston main to a fucking stream gremlin
This reminds me of Allen Iverson whose a former NBA player whose declared bankruptcy like 3 times. Rumor is he refused to pack anything whatsoever so during the NBA seasons he would buy new clothes in every city they traveled to. Dude made like $200+ million in his career and it’s gonezo
