Chevy firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. That is even written across the intake on most. So easy to get it in time. Take number one plug out put your thumb Over the Hole have somebody bump it over until your thumb gets blowed off. Once that is done turn the crank until your balancer is on zero with the timing mark. Make sure the piston is up not down with a screwdriver! Then drop your distributor in pointing at number one cylinder if it does not drop in the whole way just pick up slightly and keep rotating the rotor button l until it drops in facing number one cylinder this may take a few tries but it will keep dropping down in and it will be off but if you keep just lifting up a little bit and turning the rotor button it will eventually fall in on number one what you're doing is turning the drive on the oil pump to match with the cam. Good luck it's easy all it takes is a little bit of patience.
By the way you want to turn the rotor button clockwise same as the rotation of the firing order is clockwise. Make sure you don't have the plug wires mixed up either!
A few things of note. 1. Your intake manifold if a spreadbore style, intended for the GM stock Quadrajet and your Carb I believe to be a squarebore, as I don't recall Edelbrock releasing aftermarket carbs in a spreadbore configuration. 2. As others pointed out you're probably 180° off on your timing. You have to ensure the distributor is put in at #1 TDC of the compression stroke, pull the spark plug and ensure the #1 is in compression by sticking your finger over the plug hole, you will fell compression building. When you're dropping in your distributor ensure the tip of the distributor rotor is pointing at the #1 cylinder, this will allow the ease of plug wiring. 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 ensure the plugs are in the correct order, a general "starting point" is pointing the vacuum advanced canister at #6. For a good Video on this check out Myvintageiron7512's video (ua-cam.com/video/O4WRL513Gx4/v-deo.html) 3. Also, to ensure the nylon bushing don't get tore up prematurely check your door hinge bushings for slop by opening the door and lifting up, if the door moves around without moving the body of the truck you need to replace the bushings, it's a bit of a PITA but cheap and highly recommended. Or you can replace the whole hinge which isn't too expensive but unless you paint them they'll be a bit of an eyesore IMO
Came for the build and was surprised to see how involved you kept your kids. Wish my dad and me got along so we could work on my builds together instead of him hating it:/ keep it up dude they'll grow up with memories to tell there friends about when they're older

Every time buddy!! Timing all the way!! I could definitely help you out with setting the timing on that square body!! First you don’t have to take valve cover off just take the number 1 plug out!! The firing order is 18436572 driver side very front one is 1 then next one back towards the cab is 3 then 5 & 7 passenger side very front one is 2 then 4,6&8!! Hopefully that will get you started! On your distributor when you drop it in you want the rotor pointing towards number 1 plug in the block!! & the terminal on top of the cap right above the pointer on the rotor is where you start your spark plug wires!! & that is where you start with the number 1 plug wire going clock wise on top next is 8,4,3,6,5,7,2!!! Now if it back fires threw the carb like it did in this video you have the distributor 180 degrees of!! Hopefully that will help you!! Oh & yes timing!!

That's a beautiful moment Father and Son together. I know my generation and the younger generation are scared to have kids but having kids in your twenties is the best. When they are teenagers, you're still not that old and still able to build a strong bond. Maybe having kids in late teens it's not a good idea but when I look at those family, they look like a beautiful young family.

The TIMING of this video was a huge coincidence. I've been watching Garage Garage (hoonigan) and a couple other people and their C10s I was looking into them and found most of them in the condition yours is in were still around 5k, so you got a great deal! Should be able to get drop blocks, flip kit and lower the torsion bars to get some low low on it!

I saw how you interact with you son, and it had memories come back to me when mine were that young and me out working on stuff 24/7, but when you stopped what you were doing and looked back at your kid when you were trying to get him to say wheel that's what helped me see what kinda man you were, even if the videos aren't good I would still be subscribed simply because of the respect you have of your kid.. you also made sure to tell them not to get too close to the truck while it was on stands.. your a good parent and a good man, keep up the good work and love those kids with everything you possible have in your body.. they will test you when they get older and you will wanna break something but during those times moments like these will come back to you and you will catch yourself laughing under your breath then u will start to think back on times you acted like that toward ur parents lol.. good luck buddy

The way that truck is spitting fire its gotta be out 180* “TIMING” Is everything in those old engines if it’s not perfect it’s gonna give you problems

That "plate" on other intake manifold was a carb spacer actually adds hp supposedly

Tip, if your door starts getting loose on the striker wrap electrical tape around the striker until it gets tight old GM Tip
