Thank you Mr Ward. The principals of loading a rod is best felt with a sustained water load. Every aspect of casting is about rod load. Your principals are the foundation of all casting load the rod and let it go.
Everything he says makes sense. I have learned to cast off the left, as well as the right shoulder, for single and double spey. Reaching over with the right hand to cast off the left shoulder is awkward. It does take time to master casting off the left shoulder though.
I stopped using scandi lines. like Ed said in this video, use a floating tip and a floating Polly/versi leader. I’ve been doing this for awhile now and It works fine. Is it as delicate as scandi? No but it gets the job done. I just rather swap out tips than heads or rods. Maybe that’s because I’m lazy, but it works for me.
Great presentation of fundamentals. You should show the amount of effort it takes to lift and cast T14 or T17 on an 11ft 8 WT switch rod. Just spent 6 days in AK doing that and by the 4th day I was wore out LOL. I was demo a 13ft 8 WT spey rod and it was easier to lift that heavy sink tip up out of the water. Always learn something watching you. Thank you Ed.
