Try a belt driven Ford smog pump like on fox bodies for your air pump
It's called a swamp cooler, I got one but it's kinda pricy, since they are rare
Nice job Rich!
@@alexjoyce1276 But aren't they more of a early/mid 50's accessory than a mid 60's which is what the truck is?
your stacks would look so good square tube
rich saying “here we go” is about the most iconic thing ever
So much so that rich on the last project binky had a go :P
I would put some thick rubber spacers between the chassis and the fuel tank brackets to absorb vibration and prevent cracking. Superb job so far. 👍
U going to sell if so I'm interested I own a tow truck service in Texas that would be cool to have
My cousin has been welding for over 30 years. He is mostly a mobile weld service and when he does fuel tank work he runs a hose from his exhaust to the tank to pump out the air so no big booms! Yes, he is crazy and I move at least 100 feet when he does this!
FYI When you're looking around the junk yard, keep an eye out in any old trucks that had air brakes, for the gauges. Some had dual gauges that you could set up for pressure in the tank and pressure in the bags. Or maybe one gauge for front and back readings. I used one with a manual regulator on one side to adjust the air in my back bags. Worked great.
I used a old York a/c compressor for air ride worked excellent! Has it own oil. Love all the videos!
I use a YORK 210 in my gm as well! for air for my impact and air horns works great I just top the oil up once in a while
To stop air from side2side transitions as in a turn or unequal load, just use check valves to 'steer' the air. Should take four of them, cheaper & more reliable than more solenoids. ?? Michael in Colorado
Explaining what you are doing is great for getting ideas or see where you went wrong. For programming we call that the "rubber duck" method. When you are stuck with a problem you explain it to someone even though they most often would not be able to help you. Just by explaining what you did you often notice where you went wrong, or get an idea how to solve the problem.
Nice truck....A.F.P.(Aluminum Fabricated Products) Fuel Tank. Its now called R.D.S....I've worked there for years welding fuel Tanks and toolboxes here in Perry,Fl.(Taylor,CO.)That's so cool....
Awesome! Another good find at V and R
I would use a York AC compressor for onboard air, it’s a popular thing among off-roaders. It has its own oil supply and it can run off ur serpentine belt with a AC clutch so you can turn it on or off. I had one on my Jeep and it worked great!
Rich, if you have problems with body roll from the air bags dumping between each other, check out Super Steer Motion Control kits. They're like a check valve but still allow air dump, just very slow. I've used them on a couple large RVs and been surprised at how well they control the body roll
I know nothing about air ride, but if you are trying to stop air transfer from side to side put a check valve in to seperate the wheels.
To vent the air add a tee in on the air line one per wheel and tie back into that 12volt valve that opens to atmosphere.
I strongly recommend getting a York A/C pump for onboard air. they are found in a ton of different rigs, and they are cheap at the yards. they have their own crank case oil and are stupid simple and reliable. a buddy of mine installed one in his duramax in a day. the york compressors can put out 90 psi at close to 6 cfm.
I have been running a similar homebuilt system on a dodge Ramcharger . I used my a/c compressor as a primary compressor with a pressure cut out switch. then wired in an electric compressor as a backup. The system has been working great, leak free for over four years. No a/c compressor failures yet, I run an oiled pre filter with an extra little shot of oil every 6 moths or so. keep up the great work.
Using an Arduino or Raspberry Pi to control the Bags for the suspension is an option. Can hook it up with the sensors & compressor to monitor the psi & adjust for different ride heights, etc..... Can do a lot of custom “mods” as well, & even run it to a double DIN 7” or 8” lcd display Bluetooth radio for some extra “controls” & GUI/UI 😅. Would be a cool project to do & could go down a rabbit hole in doing so; just a word of caution, lol. Don’t get me wrong, it’s fun, but can get crazy at times😁
There are forums & “programs” out there to get started or use; if don’t wanna write & flash your own. Can’t wait to see this truck finished, & wondering if decided on the color already.....Hope do something “wild”🤪
Cheers✌🏼
I think the color is called "clear coat"
" You'll just have to believe me" - please put that on a shirt. Nailed it.
I remember taking the Firestone bag on a pickup 20+ years ago. At the time Neway Anchorlok said that no one would ever want a semi truck bag on a pickup truck.
11:17 freon doesn't lubricate compressor, it's a closed system and flow of refrigerant carries oil with it, when you use it as an air pump, outdoor air is clean enough yet where compressor doesn't get lubrication
Those fass fittings are push lock fittings from Parker. No hose clamp required, holds diesel, and good to 300psi working pressure. Reusable, just spit on it and push it together. You'll love them, give em a try.
“Hangyang, I don’t know where they are made.” 😂
reeks of chinesium
great vidjer man, millwaukee has just released a new cut off saw and a line of mega batteries for there line up, after seeing the new chain saw in action i wont be suprised if the cut off is top notch,in the mean time nothing beat a lil 2 stroke in the air, brings back the day of the elan!
You could use a York 210 ac compressor as a air compressor since it doesnt relie on oil in the frion to lubricate
I stumbled across your channel a while back (the vid with Leg Arms) and something seemed strangely familiar. Eventually I realized you’re in Ontario, I grew up near Woodstock but ended up out here in Washington state. For some reason these vids take me back home to working with my buddy’s, plenty of woodenheads there too (myself included). Thanks for the educational entertaining content. Woodenhead, wooden shoes, woodent listen.
"cause i'm dutch and on a budget" gave me a smile. You get IT or you don't:-)
Dutchie here
Rich is dutch from origin, Iam reading out of this?
Maybe second generation:-):,-)
Loved your little Homer moment, "truck goes up, truck goes down, truck goes up, truck goes down"! :P
Check out leveler valves used on transport trucks for ride control and a mechanical dump valve with electric over ride. Will do what your thinking but much cheaper ! Lov the build.
In addition to some good controller suggestions below I’d add Arduino. You can get a starter kit with sample code pretty cheap and they have plug in modules for heavier relays and wireless communication. Another possibility on the air is to just add an extra solenoid front and back that opens with either fill or dump but prevents air moving between the two bags except when you’re adjusting ride height.
Hook some whistles onto the solenoid outlet 🤣🤣Like the ones from the early 90's
gsppuffer train horn
Yeah. Could make it sound like flatulence...Whew!
Wooop woooop.
Love this channel! Video editing is awesome
Netflix please pick this show up and pay the man
Hey man, I found when doing air ride, generally speaking the valve mounted closer to the back gives better response, and the lines dont also load up too heavily with air pressure causing the ride be be more wollowy ( like a bad brake line, causing a spongey feeling )
If possible could you show the 4 link airbag setup on the rear, doing away with leaf setup on a GM motorhome chassis for a 49 IH rat rod. Thanks
" I love it so much"...that's the joy of seeing something you thought out & built working. Awesome
If you can't find a window cooler for the truck, consider a low profile roof mount ac unit...of course cab lights and a few antennae, rotating yellow light and air horns...and window visor lips
When i first started watching your channel, I didn`t know if you were full of beans or not. After watching a lot of video`s, I am sure..
It's really cool to see how you create a functional piece of equipment from the ground up.
I don't remember seeing you say anything about it but you want to make sure the remote system is turn off when you are driving. I had my front deflate a little going thru Tulsa. Scared the hell out of me but no harm done.
After you run the wire from cab switches install the remote behind the dash and connect the wires from the receiver to the switch behind the dash
I like hooking the air dump valve line to air horns 📯
Every time you dump it, that trains a rollin'
I've actually been working on a system which is cheap, open source and easy to program to control air ride. Pressure + Height. There's a few guides on Instructables for more basic systems on Arduino :)
You can get the "A/C" tube at the Pomona Swap Meet in Los Angeles.
could you run the solenoid valves directly from the relays on the controller probably only a few amps per coil you wold only need 4 wires going to the cab then close to the controller have a few spring loaded momentary (on-off-on) toggle switches to shunt power from the main positive to the appropriate solenoid basically bypassing the remote
any programmable analog output board hooked up to some relays. arduino, beaglebone etc... the only catch is you have to learn how to program them
Jerry can on the box side with the compressors mounted in side them would be cool
Someone probably already commented but.... the relays on your 4 channel remote control card are good for 10amps. You should be able to run those solenoids right of the card.
Look up Arduino, you'd be good with Arduino Uno, cost about 11 bucks on Amazon, and you can control that relay you bought with it
I dont know, that solid state relay works on 12V, arduino works on 5V-9V
@@paulweerheim y control the 12v relay with the 5v pins on the Arduino, I bought a 4 relay board for $10 on Amazon, it can switch up to 240Vac 10 amps, or 30v DC at like 15 or 20amp I don't remember
Check the current on those solenoid valves and the mini relays on your remote. You might not need the second relays at all
Love the videos. Have helped me a lot with a few vehicles I have recently built. If you ever need help let me know. Would love to come learn. I’m just in st Ann’s.
That worked flawlessly
That was such a cool build w the diy cut cost air compressor build
Man that truck is gonna be beastly
2 questions
What kind of paint job are you thinking?
What DMAX engine are you swapping?
LB7 and I think the paint code is "clear coat". I have a shinny GTO so this one is staying this Patina. Roof will be white.
Hey I have a 1969 C 50 dump truck. In your esteemed opinion. How bad is a Cummins swap?
Its so cool how you walk us thru and explain. Can't thank you enough.
Put a train horn on it. I did t to mine and it’s great. I also put a cheap $30 PA system on it to and it’s great. Pretty cool and fun build rich.
Can you just hook up a ride Hight valve off a semi truck one front and one rear to control your ride Hight. Super simple and no computer needed
Good day You said at beginning allis for sale. At 1:03 farm tractor, IH or Zetor. It looked red with white rims. Good video, but way over my head. The body with red stripe in GMC reminded me of my dad's truck 1966 Thanks
14:34 - What I’d recommend is maybe an ESP32. They’re dirt cheap, offer 2 fast cores, wifi and bluetooth. Powered though usb, they’re capable of even serving a simple website, for adjusting or controlling stuff its connected to. To give you an example, I made a little desk toy tank, by 3D printing the chassis and tracks, then using 2 servos modified for continuous rotation, and an ESP32, along with some power circuitry. End result is something that hosts a wifi access point, and once you connect to it, it shows a captive portal which consists of 4 buttons, 2 for each track. Any device with wifi can connect. The whole thing probably costed me £7.
It could definitely control the valves, albeit with just something that can lower that 12v to 5v. We’re talking sub $1 solution.
Why not use a leveling valve off of a class 8 semi. Use 2 or your solenoids to drop air
You should strap that fuel tank, those brackets you have will crack.
Paint the wood bed with old engine oil it makes it look good/ old while protecting it
What did you end up doing for an orifice for your airbags to bleed down slowly? I was just curious what you had for options using standard NPT hardware
That "we have no idea, it's not in our system" AutoZone clip cracked me up. I called them once asking if they sold a camshaft degree wheel and they kept asking me for the year make and model
That clip of the old AutoZone commercial killed me imagining the million times that fool can only ask my year/make/model
8:30 "Hengyang...I don't know where they're are made..."
I'll give you a hint, they're made of 100% pure Chinesium...LMAO
14:27 Would Arduino not be the perfect choice for control?
Arduino is 5V, solid state relay works with 12V
Why the MSD relay kit? Just a guess, but those solenoids are probably only drawing
I see you listening to Matt Mays @8:46. Nice taste in music.
Use the inlet on AC compressor put that in your valve cover to oil it
Put a steam whistle on the outlet tubes for the air out or put a train horn on it. You have to do it.
Hey rich. Would you do a Cummins swap Into an excursion for me??
Hey Rich! how big is your air tank? Do the do the compressors keep up well?
I REALLY can't wait until you start tearing down the LB7 and building it!
Make sure you clearance those rubber brake lines on the back driver side ones rub in the frame
beaglebone blue would be an awesome controller, or raspberry pi, with Addon boards.
I might woulda put batteries up front to save running all that cable and keep extra weight on front since it's a tow pig. Not that 200lbs means alot but it could make a small difference. Either way cool build!
Is this the same air system that's on the reeves truck??
They’ve got a Ridetech suspension kit
@@DEBOSSGARAGE ok cool I just didnt know if there was any resemblance. No matter what I love the hell out of Dura c10
Office the dump valves or it will be impossible to drop the psi slowly..
Orfice not office!!!
Really coming together, nice progress!👍
I like the stacks, but I think it should have tractor flaps. That would fit the look well
Can't wait until this C10 is done!
The smile on yor face says it all now doesn't it. Kool I'd be excited as well.
Theres a grease conversion for A/C compressors to run oiless
looked it up that's pretty cool. looks straightforward enough to give it a try
No need to say anymore, Dutch says on a budget. BTW, my Dad is a dutch immigrant. Great vid Rich.
I'm buying one of those wireless remote setups. Should be handy for a project I'm building and the price is right.
Why did you choose nitrous? I am just curious because you can inject just about anything into a diesel
Another youtuber sent us this bottle
If you ever want air compressor 2000 too 06 Chevy tahoe lt some came with one for the air ride they call it.
What rear axle does it have? Doesn't look like an AAM 11.5 to me.
Why not keep dually?
Get some Detroit Steel Wheels for that👌🏼
Just put the order in!
That's badass rig bro I would daily drive it
How do you not have over 1 million subscribers??
Even Jesus started with 12.....
are you seriously dutch !!?? no way i saw you eating De Ruijter hagelslag ;) always enjoying these vids a max keep it up!
So somebody just left the Fass on a vehicle that went for scrap? Is that the same system I've seen a lot on welderup?
I really think your going to need 8 valves....I highly doubt the bags will fill evenly. Will you have a psi display for the bags so you know the psi of each bag or no?
Edit: nvm seems to work fine lol
Well, they do exchange air pressure between them, so as long as you load it somewhat evenly, the truck will sit nicely level.
Raspberry Pi or Arduino. Cheap and can do what ever you want. Used a lot on CNC machines
6:40 that grinder wheel man. Be safe rich. Excellent build and info.
When are you going to post the part two of the Komatsu bulldozer build
Tomorrow
your front sway bar links the rubber bushing is gone .
So impressive. If you can do it maybe I can figure it out.
So excited to see this thing finished! Great work Rich!
Rich whats happening to the Audi?
Unless I misunderstood you, it will take 8 valves to get some three-wheel motion going? I vote for 8.
Industral remote for crain 12volt model on amazon 114$ get the 8 button
This truck is excellent
