      @Jacob Russo You're right. On occasions, when there's nothing else to do we often argue amongst ourselves. When it comes to it and we turn together to face a threat to either of us then you'd better stand by.
      I've worked alongside your Marines,, snappy dressers, good people and always the best kit that we've always been happy to "borrow on a permanent basis" but, happy to fight alongside them.
      Rest easy Marine.

    In August 1969, his unit was ambushed outside of Vandegrift Combat Base in Quang Tri Province. Carter had stopped the enemy's advance when a grenade landed between him and his fellow Marines - Carter threw himself on the grenade, sacrificing his life to save the lives of others. From this USMC mom to his Gold Star Mom . . . God bless her.

    There can never be enough said to make sure that this man has the honor he deserves. A medal of honor winner is someone who has given his all and in doing so has saved the lives of countless people but has done so in such a fashion that most of us dont even realixe that they did anything different or unusual. These are the true heros. The ones who do wonderful things without of reward

      Just one thing... I am not American, I am Greek and I have the impression that you don't win the Medal of Honor. It is awarded to someone for his actions beyond of call of duty. If I am mistaken, please correct me.

      @@paparia_mentoles, As Patrick Holland stated, you are correct. To a person, though, every recipient of the MOH states or has stated that it is not their medal but belongs to all of those serving with them, both the survivors and those that paid the ultimate price, they are just wearing it for them. This is the calibre of people that receive this honor.

    • @motionalarm8351

      @@paparia_mentoles you are correct. It is an honor bestowed on someone that went above and beyond the call of duty without thought of the cost, life or limb, usually both. It’s laying on that grenade thrown in the middle of your fellow soldier, it’s walking into the mouth of hell to pull your buddy out or give them a chance to get out while you stay behind. You make the sacrifices so that others may live…

      This is my only gripe when awarding the MOH. Young enlisted personnel mostly earn theirs by dying. Yet, senior officers earn theirs simply by sending these young men and women into battle. Throughout our war history there are many enlisted men who should have been awarded the MOH but no there to document their heroism mainly because their buddies also died. I remember when my unit went to 'Nam, our career officers submitted requests for a Bronze Star. This would have looked good on their records. Gladly someone up the line nixed this.

    • @richardcline1337
      @richardcline1337 3 роки тому

      @@XJarhead360, it is, as has always been the case, that the brass rarely earn any of the accolades handed to them. There is a saying in the military that"S--- flows downhill". The lower ranks pay in blood so the brass can be rewarded with promotions and medals. I'm a Vietnam era vet and my time will soon be over. Until the day I die I will NEVER understand the horrid waste of so may lives both in Vietnam and in Afghanistan. At least the young men and women today can wear their uniforms with pride whereas we had to hide ours once we were stateside.

      @@janetbrowning9089, my heart goes out to you with your loss. The day after Thanksgiving, the 26th, will mark 22 years since I lost the greatest gift God ever gave me to cancer.
      Sadly, one of the biggest outrages of that phoney "war" was to find bottom feeders like John Kerry, who was supposed to be one of our own, jumping ship and joining forces with Hanoi Jane to benefit his political ambitions and knifing all of his fellow military comrades in the back. John McCain, the songbird of the Hanoi Hilton was another, who sang like a canary for the NVA. Those are some of the really hurtful things our men and women faced when they returned to a nation that didn't want them.

      mirage 455, he never had to face that humiliating treatment that so many of us did. He made the ultimate sacrifice in giving his life to save his fellow Marines. As I have stated elsewhere, the young men and women today can thankfully wear their uniforms with pride whereas we were told to hide ours and not wear it home once we processed out. I have never been, nor will I ever be, an anti-war protestor, but until the day I die I will NEVER understand why our government chose to waste so many of our young men and women in Vietnam and now Afghanistan. We gained nothing but a lot of innocent lives lost and in both cases we abandoned billions of dollars in arms and equipment for our former enemies to confiscate and use. None of it makes any sense to me. RIP, my brothers.

      NOBODY wins the MOH, it is bestowed upon them as a recipient of the medal. In August 1969, his unit was ambushed outside of Vandegrift Combat Base in Quang Tri Province. Carter had stopped the enemy's advance when a grenade landed between him and his fellow Marines - Carter threw himself on the grenade, sacrificing his life to save the lives of others.
