For us ancient old ABBA fans who were around during the groups ten years together, its fascinating and kind of awesome to watch someone who probably wasn't born when ABBA recorded their last song in 1982 making some very asstute observations and, obviously picking up quicker on how talented these four stars were back then when virtually none of the music critics of their era gave them any credit. Hey Dereck, wish you could have experienced the sheer excitement and joy of hearing a new ABBA song in 70's and 80's Europe. I was in my sisters kitchen at 7.45am the morning i first ever heard this. Sheer bliss.
It was very exciting, I got the album for Christmas as a kid, amazing album. Being Scottish hearing Glasgow mentioned by ABBA is still a thrill even if I am from the east coast, lol
When I was a kid, I bought myself ABBAs Greatest Hits. I have the album buried somewhere in my house. But the only song I remember from it has the line, “Like a roller in the ocean, life is motion, move on...like the wind that’s always blowing, life is flowing, move on....” After all these years, that song is still stuck in my head even to this day.
One important aspect of this song that is blatantly in the lyrics but sometimes overlooked is that she is able to continue to perform BECAUSE the love of her life is in the audience. She can get through performing, the late nights, the endless tour bus travel, because her love will be there supporting her when it comes time to be on stage. Having fans doesn't heal one's loneliness. Having a love of your life is what heals that loneliness, the love she has for him and him for her, that keeps her career of a performer going strong. I first heard this 40 years ago, and I still know it word for word. Listening to his makes me a little sad, because although my parents were pretty poor when I was young, we were happy and life seemed so simple. Now, as they (and I) age and suffer from illness, I sometimes LONG to go back to those days of youth and happiness.
This is my favorite part of the song, there are times listen to it over and over because the perfect harmonisation of Frida and Agnetha gives me a natural high, and goosebumps. The entire song is ABBA perfection!!!

"If It Wasn't For The Nights" and "Hasta Manana" are incredible too. EVERYONE else overlooks these fantastic tracks. I hope you will consider them.
I'm glad you liked the spotlights, because that's the title of the song. The "super trooper" is the name for the single big spotlight that picks out someone on the stage, the person being a star. Excellent song, I haven't listened to this for ages but here I am singing along as if it was yesterday. ABBA's music lasts. End of.

Super Trouper is a type of spotlight used in concert. always thought it was referencing her state of mine as a super trouper. but its actually the lights that flash through the video.
They originally wanted to film this in Piccadily in London but couldn't get the clearance to stop activity happening in the area due to their popularity at the time would have caused a major interruption. So it was shot in a studio in Sweden
Dereck, I told you in the comments section for another ABBA's song: You are discovering now the jewel that was (and is yet) ABBA. Music 🎶 before you were born. Enjoy it! BTW, I like the way you do your videos. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
This has been one of my favorite songs once I connected the title with the spot light. Super Trooper is a type of spot light (not sure if it's a type or a brand). My father had a part time job as a stage hand working lights and sound etc at the big civic center in the town where I grew up, and one day after listening to this song, it occurred to me that in a conversation with the others on his light crew, I heard him say "....and that will leave us two to work the super troupers..." and I thought, duh! super trooper = spot light.
In case you don't know, Super Trouper is a brand of spotlights, probably the one they used in their tours. Hence the continuous presence of them in the video
The Song was written about a spotlight, hence the title 'Super Trouper' a 'Super Trouper' is a large stage spotlight, hence the line 'Super Trouper beams are Gonna Blind me'.
I think w the circus theme in the video here, ABBA is saying that they ARE the circus. I love this song so much. So soothing. It really directs me into a great mood.
I'm loving your ABBA reacts dude! Also your analysis is really well done every video I've seen and I enjoy your volume settings while speaking into the mic. Almost ASMR like.
Super Trouper was the second single from the album Super Trouper after The Winner Takes It All. Super Trouper was actually the very first 7"single I ever bought aged 9years old in early December1980 (The Piper as b-side) Super Trouper was ABBA's recognition of their fans loyalty making every fan feel special "but I won't feel blue cause somewhere in the crowd there's you". Yeah, its interesting Super Trooper was the last track to be written and recorded from the album as an afterthought really; wonder what single would've been released if Super Trouper hadn't materialised? Super Trouper spend three at No.1 UK chart and would've stayed there longer if it hadn't been for John Lennon's death nudging the re-release of Imagine replacing Super Trouper at the No.1 spot.
By the way next year in Sweden is to celebrate the 50 years of ABBA... With “Waterloo” in 1974. It was the 19th edition of the melodifestivalen contest, hosted at the Brighton Dome in the UK... BUT IAM THE HAPPYEST GUY ON THE PLANET RIGHT KNOW.... AND JUST WANT TO CELIBRATE ABBA... WITH....LOVE LOVE LOVE.....
If my memory serves me I remember reading on the LP cover that the front pic was a impromptu one. All the performers were there including ABBA for a celebration for the Swedish royal family.
ABBA applied to the city of London to use Piccadilly Circus for the music video, however they couldn’t gain permission, so settled for a studio circus theme.
Yes. Its recorded in a studio in Solna. Close to me. A friend of mine was there together with her father who was taking photos. After Annifrid and Agnetha said hello to my friend and huged her. A photo of that moment is now on her wall. She was 5 years old then.
that was at the end of their carreer as a group .Then agnetha went solo for a while and decided to become a recluse with her kids for almost two decades

Super Trouper #1 title track and #1 album in U.K. They made the critics crazy. They received some bad reviews for this album, I remember reading a review that they re-named it "Super Stupor". But that didn't matter, because they dominated the charts in Europe, and it was a smash-success album, with mega-hit singles. It was the best-selling album in the U.K. for 1980.
Oh woooooooow I didnt know that..I always though it was Double Fantasy
@@jorgearrieta6641 ABBA's album "Super Trouper" was the #1 album in the U.K. for 1980,,,,, and "Double Fantasy" came in at a respectable #12. But "Double Fantasy" sold very well into 1981,,,, where it placed in at #10.😀🎵🎶🎼
@@AzoreanZionist Thank You !
@@jorgearrieta6641 👍😁No need to thank me,,,, you take care, brother!
@@AzoreanZionist the problem with John Lennon Albums was thay half of the songs were written and sung by Yoko Ono, who is a hack. So you buy a record, and half of it is crap
Super trouper, that's what the spot light is called that you see at the start of the video.
IF there is a heaven, im sure that ABBA is the music
"Pure talent". Great reaction. Try SOS, the day Before you came anda I'm a marionette, greets from Brasil
A Super trouper is a spot light used in theatre.
Hence the continuous presence of them in the video
thank you for the insight and comment!
But the spotlight shown is not actually a super trouper light
I only just recently learnt that ‘super trouper’ is the brand name of a spotlight…. 😆
Super Trooper is the name of the spotlight you see at the beginning, used to pick out the star on stage.
A super trouper is a vintage spot light....! 🌈💚
The Song was written about a spotlight, hence the title 'Super Trouper' a 'Super Trouper' is a large stage spotlight, hence the line 'Super Trouper beams are Gonna Blind me'.
Our late mother’s favourite ABBA song
I think w the circus theme in the video here, ABBA is saying that they ARE the circus. I love this song so much. So soothing. It really directs me into a great mood.
Super Trouper is the spotlight.
I'm loving your ABBA reacts dude! Also your analysis is really well done every video I've seen and I enjoy your volume settings while speaking into the mic. Almost ASMR like.
Super Trouper was the second single from the album Super Trouper after The Winner Takes It All.
Super Trouper was actually the very first 7"single I ever bought aged 9years old in early December1980 (The Piper as b-side)
Super Trouper was ABBA's recognition of their fans loyalty making every fan feel special "but I won't feel blue cause somewhere in the crowd there's you".
Dereck he visto todo los videos abba es impresionante el trabajo que haces lo haces muy muy bien te quiero muchisimo amigo mío 🌺🤗😘
By the way next year in Sweden is to celebrate the 50 years of ABBA... With “Waterloo” in 1974. It was the 19th edition of the melodifestivalen contest, hosted at the Brighton Dome in the UK... And will be hosted in Stockholm City next years... Welcom to Sweden gays and girls... AND HAVE A GRATE PARTYYYYYYY - 2024.... I KNOW IAM ALL OVER YOU TUBE... BUT IAM THE HAPPYEST GUY ON THE PLANET RIGHT KNOW.... AND JUST WANT TO CELIBRATE ABBA... WITH....LOVE LOVE LOVE.....
Those spotlights are actually called Super Troupers-it is a trademark.
The live version is amazing too.
muito bom !!! sou fã desse grupo !!! "having fun, feeling like a number one fan".
A Super Trouper is band and roadie slang for a large spotlight.
Flatwoodsdad it is not slang , it is written on the casing of the equipment by the manufacturer.😀
@@user-ky6vw5up9m Thanks for the info :-)
@@Flatwoodsdad Yip, it's a trade mark of a brand of stage spotlights.
You are so cute, and have a beautiful smile, kind eyes... Love from Sweden
MERCI POUR TON ANALYSE.
If my memory serves me I remember reading on the LP cover that the front pic was a impromptu one. All the performers were there including ABBA for a celebration for the Swedish royal family.
The words of the Song Super Trouper is the name of the spotlight!
Mega hit all through Europe in 1980......
Therr is the contrast between "beams are gonna blind me" and "lights are gonna find me"
The Song is about the spotlights called souper trouper.
Super Trouper is a big spotlight among professional show lighting professionals.;))
Trivia: That kind of spot light is called a Super Trooper. Quite common in the 70's.
My dear Dereck you do know what a SUPER Trouper is , dont you? if not this song is lost on you.
The Cinematographer did a sterling job of concealing Agnetha's pregnancy.
A super trouper is the name given to the main spotlight.
You should react to ABBA - The Last Video It's very clever and well put together,
Incase you dont know that light in the industry is called a Super Trouper.. so the song is about the light...
Hey Dereck, a souper trooper is the no.1 spotlight. Blinds the hell outta ya!
When I kissed the teacher
Move On
Head over heals
Lasse Hallström,the director of their videos later went to Hollywood
So iconic, he should have more fame... He did so many vid thats were before time
"Super Trooper" as the big spot lights were known as... Again, ABBA, behind rather sad moving to upbeat happiness... Classic!!! Bjorn (Byorn pron) 😉😉👍
For me this song is in the Top 5 of ABBA songs
ABBA applied to the city of London to use Piccadilly Circus for the music video, however they couldn’t gain permission, so settled for a studio circus theme.
Yes. Its recorded in a studio in Solna. Close to me. A friend of mine was there together with her father who was taking
photos. After Annifrid and Agnetha said hello to my friend and huged her. A photo of that moment is now on her wall. She was 5 years old then.
Fredrik Möller I love that!
Have you done Andante, Andante? I will check your channel...There is an enhanced version out in the internet. Frida kicks ass.
Try Angel Eyes. dont tink it was ever a hit, but it is so catchy. Should have been a hit single.
that was at the end of their carreer as a group .Then agnetha went solo for a while and decided to become a recluse with her kids for almost two decades
Their Rock Royalty.
Agnetha and frida sound like angels.
The title refers to the brand "Super Trouper" which is a maker of follow spotlights. Great reaction vid!
