Olivia Vasquez to be fair Jamie was the only one who disagreed with Eugene’s being bagel for the sole reason that he didn’t like the taste-which honestly doesn’t make it not a bagel. He just outright ignored that it was a creativity factor. Also it’s a bad idea to have a kid judge when Eugene serves alcohol, not to mention the kid had no professional experience about the cooking in this episode.
Oscar Tran It’s good to have a variety of perspectives when judging a competition like this. The Try Guys have minimal experience and they’re going without a recipe. Lord knows they’re going to screw up. Having a variety of taste buds on the panel leads to a more interesting discussion in regards to the Try Guys cookings as there is no telling what the outcome will be. Also, the kid could be seen as a customer in the store so it’s not really a bad idea.

Seen in this scenario, Jamie simply disagrees that Eugene’s bagel is not one because it’s spicy, which I felt was not an adequate reason. In his own rankings, he also only focused on taste- neglecting all other categories. Yes different perspectives are important, but I still think there is less room for error if a child isn’t judging without experience, especially if one of your chefs loves to add alcohol and a large amount of spice.

That's like a thing though. People from the east have different water. It's why a bagel from New York or Montreal tastes completely different from a bagel made in California or Vancouver.

I just got to say especially being from New York and living on Long Island cinnamon raisin bagels are 100% a bagel. Every single bagel store in New York carries them. I’ve been eating them my whole life not gonna let a bunch of people from California tell me that it’s not a bagel!! Lol

And the judges deciding that sweet bagels are muffins doesn't even make sense. Like, there are qualifications for a food to be designated as a certain food, and one for muffins is batter. Bagels are made with dough (like Keith's was), not batter. If they're gonna be pretentious about food, then at least their "totally not what it actually is food" should be something that can still sort of quality as whatever they say it is.

Sweet bagels are great for desert, but savory bagels can be the bread in a breakfast sandwich or stand on its own with cream cheese and lox. Sweet bagels only work with cream cheese and they almost always have too much sugar and make me want to pass out afterwards. As far as Keith’s bagel goes, it was poorly formed and as you said, if a bagel isn’t cooked properly, it all goes out the window. Just because it has a hole in the middle doesn’t make it a bagel automatically.

But basically he was a hit with the audience because he had a good dynamic with Eugene on set considering Eugene's general dislike of children. They bring his mum whenever he appears on a video so it's not a case of him being a child of the staff. I can't remember the full story now as it was years ago but Jamie has been a visitor to the show for enough times to be recognisable. He's judged without a recipe a few times too so if his opinions weren't wanted then why let him judge. Edit to add: I think his first appearance was rank king

The judges that annoy me the most are the ones that say a specific version of the food doesn't qualify as that food basically bc they don't like it.🤷♀️
And the judges deciding that sweet bagels are muffins doesn't even make sense. Like, there are qualifications for a food to be designated as a certain food, and one for muffins is batter. Bagels are made with dough (like Keith's was), not batter. If they're gonna be pretentious about food, then at least their "totally not what it actually is food" should be something that can still sort of quality as whatever they say it is.

As a Jewish person, the whole thing with cinnamon raisin/chocolate chip bagels is the expectation of savory. It doesn’t necessarily have to do with liking them.

Sweet bagels are great for desert, but savory bagels can be the bread in a breakfast sandwich or stand on its own with cream cheese and lox. Sweet bagels only work with cream cheese and they almost always have too much sugar and make me want to pass out afterwards. As far as Keith’s bagel goes, it was poorly formed and as you said, if a bagel isn’t cooked properly, it all goes out the window. Just because it has a hole in the middle doesn’t make it a bagel automatically.

@@its_ri_baby Jamie was a fan that they met at an event, and was brought onto a video ages ago for a reason I can't remember. But basically he was a hit with the audience because he had a good dynamic with Eugene on set considering Eugene's general dislike of children. They bring his mum whenever he appears on a video so it's not a case of him being a child of the staff. I can't remember the full story now as it was years ago but Jamie has been a visitor to the show for enough times to be recognisable. He's judged without a recipe a few times too so if his opinions weren't wanted then why let him judge.
