Hi, welcome to ShuoshuoChinese 说说中文; my name is Shuo, I’m a native Chinese teacher living in Bangkok, Thailand, I’ve been teaching Chinese as a foreign language for seven years and I’m also a language learner.
In this channel, I will upload a weekly video, in which I talk about Chinese vocabulary, Chinese grammar, Chinese culture, Chinese stories with pinyin and the English translation for listening practice.
With my channel, you can easily start to learn and understand complicated Chinese grammar, sentence structure, and differences/nuances between similar Chinese words.
If you are a Chinese beginner, I’m planning to upload videos about what Chinese language is, how it differs from English, Chinese pronunciations, Chinese characters and Chinese stroke sequences and a mini Chinese course, (10 minutes per day), which can help you learn quickly and easily. Don’t miss it!
So, subscribe to my channel and start your Chinese learning journey!

I picked four useful words that I guess most of you may not know from this video. They are
    1. 细微的差别 xìwēi de chābié
    2. 欠 qiàn
    3. 感同身受 gǎntóng shēnshòu
    4. 知足常乐 zhīzú chánglè
Do you still remember their meanings?
Try to make sentences using these word, I will help you check :)

The first time I went to China was in 2010. My son was teaching English in Wuhan; I went to see him and go sightseeing. We went to Huangshan (so beautiful), and from there took a small bus to Hefei. We were the only Americans on this bus, possibly the only Americans ever to be on that bus. The trip took most of the day. To pass the time the driver played a movie on the video at the front for everyone to watch. Of course the dialogue was in Chinese, so I understood very little, but I could get the story from the pictures. It was about a squad of Chinese resistance fighters during the Japanese occupation. They're helped by the crew of an American submarine, who take them to the place where they attack a Japanese position. In the movie the Japanese were made to look like fools, but the Americans were brave and helpful. I know the driver played this movie for my son and me. I still get choked up thinking about it.
It's a shame that politicians in both countries try to push us apart, because really we have so much in common.

I love traditional Chinese culture too & I agree that we have a lot in common; if it wasn’t for China’s current political system, maybe things would be different. I don’t blame any of that on the people though; I’ve never met a bad Chinese yet.

I was living in Yangshuo, Guangxi for 6 months studying at Omeida language academy. I was in the West street district and had too much too drink, then finding it hard to get home (I'd only been there a few days). A group of also drunken Chinese guys walking down the street could tell I looked lost, and asked me where I want to go. (luckily I had the basics down). They hailed a motorbike Taxi and paid him 10 kuai to take me home. I tried to pay and they wouldn't let me, ushering me to get on and waving good bye with huge smiles. Many local people in Yangshuo don't have much, and although it's no big deal I always pay that simple kindness forward.

Not sure why but I just feel very at home. After all, that's my Motherland. I'm glad that I started visiting China because I got to learn some Chinese. I just found your channel! I am so happy! I understood about 80% of your video! I have been learning Chinese for about 3 years now! I speak English and French fluently! However, I was always fascinated with the Chinese language. I promised myself, that once I retired I would learn it! I am 62 years old and it is a challenge because my memory is not what it use to be! I met a Chinese woman last year through conversation exchange. She spent the summer here visiting her son! We became soul sisters! She is back home now and we communicate often! My husband speaks 6 languages, and I speak 2 and a half! So we can travel the world together and somehow manage with our languages to be understood. I and simply longing to visit your beautiful country!! 我很高兴发现到你的网站! 谢谢你!

I would say, there are all kind of people we meet in our journey. The first time I went to China,it was for studying. I was cheated by a taxi driver,he gave me false 100RMB bill, and as I wasn't that pro in checking if it's an original..I got so heart broken.. again one day, when I was completely helpless in the middle of a deserted road,I didn't have Chinese sim card by then in my mobile, couldn't book a taxi,a complete stranger 主动地 came to help me,he booked a 的的 with his phone. I didn't have any words to thank him. So from my personal experience, people are raised to be good. I will always cherish this one memory.

I lived in China 7 years. My level is HSK3 to 4 but like many my Hanzi is terrible. I agree with most of the points you made. I left 17 March 2022 because it was deadly dangerous. I was terrified of being nailed up in my house or dragged off to a camp. That happened to my colleagues. I was lucky to escape. I will never return because the digital control and surveilance of the government is at a level that is unimaginable now. I will continue to learn Chinese as it is useful for me in many other countries in Asia.

My favourite learning point was at 2:09:
需要一年的时间才可以吃... ("need one year to eat...")
I think that 才可以 literally means "only then can".
In English, we don't include "only", but in Chinese, I think that 才 is required in the expression:
需要...才可以... (need [something] in order to be able to [something else])

The question that you asked is a difficult question to answer! However, sometimes living a simple life with all your necessary needs being met, I somehow feel has an advantage! Somehow, continually searching to improve your life in aspects such as careers, bigger house, more commodities does not necessarily bring happiness! Sometimes it has the opposite effect! Less time for the simple enjoyment of family and friends! I believe the Thai people have it right. Thank you!

I like to study a video until i can understand all of it, and then I put it into a rotation with other videos I've studied, where i try to regularly listen to them and undertand everything without looking at them. If there's a particular grammar structure or something that I dont understand, I'll ask ChatGPT about it and it will explain it for me, lol. I'm taking a strong "listening first" approach right now and these are perfect for it.

It's interesting that you prefer talking in chinese with your friends when it comes to deep conversations. I actually prefer to do that in english even though I'm from Germany and german actually also has more words with pretty similar meanings like you said about chinese. But I guess it's because we don't use a lot of words (or at least I don't) in daily life or when talking to your friends because they seem a bit cringy/ uncomfortable to use. That makes it hard to express certain things.
I also looove the sound of Chinese and the better I understand it the more I fall in love with that language. Thanks for another video of you slowly talking in chinese, I enjoy them a lot, very helpful! ♡

I really like to have deep conversations with friends, one day I'll be able to do it Chinese, hopefully.
Something I have noticed about Chinese and English culture is that other people often view us with similar prejudice

I live in Zhengzhou, and the thing I like most about China are my students, the cheap and convenient vegetable shops, and the cheap and delish cafeteria food at my university. Of course, last semester was online ( you know why!), but I look forward to going back next month. I don't like liver - but it's healthy and the liver dish with spinach was really good at our humungous Chinese university cafeteria.

I wasn't born in China, but have lived the most part of my life in the small town not far from China's border. All restaurants in my hometown were chinese cuisine. So when I moved to the bigger city I realised how much I miss it. It's really a kind of torture! And even though there is a couple of chinese restaurants here, they don't have some dishes I like in the menu T T I try to recreate those dishes myself but the taste is not exactly like I remember. Pain
