I grew up with a miniature schnauzer. When I was 16, I woke up in the middle of the night with excruciating stomach pain and tried to go to my parents room to get help. I collapsed on the floor and my mini schnauzer woke up and ran up to me, licked my face, woke up my mom and brought her to me. Turns out I had appendicitis. I love schnauzers, they are instinctively so protective over us and we do ‘t deserve such good dogs 💕
I love the Doberman I believe as far as protection dogs it doesn't get any better. So in my opinion Doberman pinschers are 1A and giant schnauzers are 1b. I love the giant schnauzer

I love this video. It's cool to see such a big schnauzer trying to protect his kiddo. I have a mini schnauzer who has shown an understanding that children and geriatric individuals require more gentleness and respect, which is amazing, because I don't think I had to teach it to her.
This reminds me of our girl O'Malley she was fiercely protective of my any children that she spent time with especially my two kids. She once kept a little boy from getting too close to a nearby lake when he wandered out of the yard. O'Malley ruined me for other dogs.
We had our amazing Giant Schnauzer for 14 years before she died unexpectedly. She was just the same. Paniced when any of us went swimming. She had to jump in to "rescue" us and it was the funniest thing. Schnauzers are some of the most loyal dogs out there. I love them. :)
MaiHead I have three, one giant, and she hates it when we swim. She doesn’t like water, but she will stand at the edge of our pool and bark until we get out.

I grew up with miniature schnauzers. Today at 64 I have 2 miniature schnauzers and a standard schnauzer . Both of these 2 breeds are great, just like the giant.
My Schnoodle (Giant Schnauzer/Standard Poodle) Winston use to do the same with my little girl. He would always be herding her away from danger. Sadly he died four weeks ago at the age of 3yrs. Miss you big guy. RIP Winny.
Mini, standard or giant, they all have the same personality. Love these dogs to death. No breed comes close to these beautiful dogs. I have a miniature and she is a tough little girl despite her size. Amazing temper, great with family, super alert dogs and most importantly caring. Great video btw

I have had 2 giants black and salt & pepper both fantastic dogs. I remember when a dog used to bully her all the time and she was so laid back she couldn't care less.......one day the dog tried the same trick but this day there was a difference my kids were there, she hit that dog like a truck held it on the floor until it gave in. 100% balanced dogs.
Dal, Standards are really nice dogs as well , the main difference is the giants have stronger guarding instincts. when i bought my salt & pepper the breeder informed me that the black schnauzers stronger guarding nature, i found this to be true when i later bought the black one.
Its amazing that we think WERE THE ONES teaching the dog, when they teach US things about them everyday, its just wether or not we are smart enough to notice it..dog psychology 101..protective instincts ✔!

This is wonderful. We live on a farm and have been debating on which breed we want to get for our toddler to stay with him when we are out working in the fields or with the horses. This video has me sold on schnauzers. We've had miniature schnauzers in the past but I didn't realize how good they can be with kids.
Two of her pups live on farms actually one I Boston and the other in Penn. The Pup Saint that went to Boston is looking out for his daughter too for the very same reason.. and also to be a threat for the wildlife that are threats to the live stock .
I know this is a year old, but ... do you know how this breed does around chickens, geese, guineas, turkeys, or ducks? We have some Great Pyrenees LGDs (well, one is half Akbash), and they're very good with the animals, but this breed seems like it would be good, too.
We got our G.S. Saint from Jacque and He is a farm dog. At first he would chase the chickens but we told him to stop a couple times and now he is fine. He likes to put the goats back in there area when they get out of range. He is an incredibly sweet dog that lets my 2 children pull his hair, poke his eyes and jump on him without any objection. He chooses human companionship over food every time, he really just wants hugs 24/7.

You are lucky to have one. Hopefully when we are able to have our own house and yard instead of an apartment I will be able to get one. I fell in love with the standard when I showed in 4-H obedience.

Yup! Working Dogs and Herding Dogs are AWESOME at protecting children. We grew up with Shepherds and Pembroke Corgis. Once a kid at the park got a little too close to my two female cousins when we were grade school-aged. The Corgi was named Fluffy and she snatched away from my Aunt and pulled the boy off his bike via his leg. Ouch! My Aunt had to pay for the boy's hospital bill BUT Fluffy wasn't punished because she was just doing her job.
I have one from Skansen, Skansens Luna De La Cruz-Skoot. I've had the honors to go to show with/against Sylvia and get tips, when Luna was 6 only months old. Wonderful woman 😍 incomparable character amongst the Schnauzers. They are not an aggressive breed, there are only a few large/giants breeds with as much energy as the Giant. They do not question friend from foe... Especially when it comes to family/home.

+meingz ly I have a mini and they are AWESOME dogs, but do be aware that some (maybe not all) are pretty vocal and yappy :) I thought i had researched the hell out of mine when we got him, but i missed that crucial detail altogether. That being said he's the sweetest smartest little boy and wouldnt trade him for anything in the world

no I have had several breeds actually. training is really about 2 things the bond you have with the dog and consistency in what you expect out of the relationship. I started with Dobermans then Rotts, I had a doby rott mix and the personally Bay Bay had is identical to the GS and that's what got me into the breed.

I'm a veterinary professional of 22 years and this breed is in my top 3 list as the best all around dog breed. Absolutely adore these guys!

I had 2 schnauzers from childhood that I miss dearly. They really are good dogs.

My aunt's Newfoundland dog used to the same thing. He would bark warnings and then go into action. And he was huge, about 150 pounds.
