A long time ago, before a bunch of patches changed the game. I fell in love with a little Cicada called the X-5. Many a game I came out with top damage in that mech. Alas those days are gone. Now it sits, gathering dust and cobwebs in the mechbay. The little Cicada, a lonely, empty shell. "I'm not crying, you're crying!" Good games today Bara. Thank you for them :D
The Cicada is an excellent mech if used in its preferred role: ranged harasser. It's not going to alpha-strike someone's CT in a single blast, or face-brawl anyone. What it does do very well is run like a light, take a beating better than most mediums, and throw concentrated fire at range from multiple positions. I think of it as a high speed turret or artillery platform. The "useless" arms even make nice shields. Even with the recent recharge time increase, PPCs and long ranged weapons are a good match for the mech. Snipe and run.
This looks like a real fun build. I run a Cicada half the time and I use a light gauss with max ammo for some speedy snipes. This is definitely a little more rounded out. Love the videos Baradul

The Cicada 3C is probably my most favorite mech in MWO, i like to run mine with an XL 255, Double Heatsinks (ofcourse), Endo structure, targeting computer Mk 8 (yes you read that right), 1 ER PPC and 3 LMG with 1 ton of ammo. You have to make some sacrifices to make it happen but if you are playing the 3C clearly you aren´t playing the meta anyways. You can even move the Targeting computer to an "arm" if you absolutely must have that extra LMG, but the TC gets destroyed very quickly in those arms. Grab every velocity and range skill node. Shame about the update that increases cooldown, but it also adds extra velocity so those ER PPC´s are going to be screaming across the battlefield even faster.
My 3C is set up largely the same way, only instead of Ferro, machine guns, MK.I computer, and an AMS, mine has Light Ferro, magshots, MK.II computer, Beagle probe, an additional double heat sink. Mine is geared more towards being a rapid fire sniper with essentially a pocket AC/8 for the more up close and personal, though I might rework it to include an AMS since LRMs are a constant danger to sniper mechs in general, especially ones like this with so little armor.
It's been a few years since I've played, but back then it made sense to use all available slots for heatsinks in the engine, because they are more effective in cooling there instead if you put them somewhere else. edit - nevermind, he explained why he put it there :)

Oh yeah, tiers don't really seem to matter that much anymore. I've seen several Tier 1 players in my drops, and I perpetually tumble between Tiers 2-3 depending on the day.
I take the X-5, one heavy ppc, 330 xl engine. targeting comp 3, mobility, extra radar deprivation skills + innate radar dep, range and cd skills, don't even need heat reduction, 700dmg, 200 taken one match, 18% mech integrity left lmao
How about dropping the machineguns in favour of 2 LB -X -2's? Would be similar damage at much more range, a similar range to the ER-PPc if I'm not mistaken?!
I would like to know how long you played non stop to be able to just turn stuff on and off in the perks section and then being able to just do whatever you want to the mech. Also how do you not immediately get recked when you go on the offensive.
In 10 or more years on this platform, I’ve *never* seen “uploaded 10 seconds ago” under a video until now. Regarding the video, I can see the target info gathering having some actual value in the skill tree for this build.
I'm trying to remember, but I believe you can stick three LPPCs on a Cicada, without really ripping into it's speed much. Even when not using an energy quirked Cicada model, being able to chainfire the PPCs as fast as possible, alpha, or fire them slowly to keep the heat down, works wonders. Most ppl don't bother though due to how it usually becomes useless unless you know how to always stay at range + avoid other fast mechs, as you can't do any dmg at less than 90 meters.
Good luck geting any kind of rapid fire in PPCs when the game gets updated today lol

Although the percentage quirks will be magnified so it may still be one of the fastest firing still.

I run that Cicada with a large Pulse Laser and 4 Heavy MGs before an after the patch an it has definitely gotten stronger.

Btw, this is the only Mech I run a LAMS on as it's not very hot at all.

It is hard enough to do significant damage with the 3C without its main weapon firing 50% slower.
The 20% increase in damage just won't cut it.

I think you should have taken BAP+Target Computer for max radar range for the PPC
I have this mech & almost similar build. I play it when im in a ppc sniping mood haha

Ah yes, the Cicada. One of the go to mechs to demonstrate how fucking cursed 40 tonners are as a mech weight class.
I've used this but with light machine guns, to tickle enemies from a bit further away.
I like that build with large pulse, reading all the comments about ppc nerf it's probably going to be more viable.
My favorite build is a king crab with 4 lppcs so you can machinegun fire them with 2 ac2s and 3 lrm 5s

Damage Transfer. Avoid critical hits, if your side torso is damaged to crit level, next damage can go to the DHS instead of killing you.

Four light ppcs, double heat sinks. Endosteel frame and XL engine. You would need the 3050 version. But its viable and a decent strike mech.
Late game....right, my prediction before watching is those MGs will be chattering away within a minute of the fight starting.

It also could be a heavy ppc cicada, or a pinpoint medium with 2x uac2 and a light ppc
