Thanks Eric, hopefully I can get started after we get some dryer weather for painting. It is so humid because of a hurricane that was approaching, but turned into a tropical storm. We're getting a lot of the moisture right now and it takes forever for anything to dry. I will be using a UV sanding sealer and can do some work on the neck, so hopefully I can start adding a few videos soon. Yes they are very good kits. I've built two Wilkinson Tele kits and an LP kit from StewMac and they've all been very good and played and sounded great! Thanks for watching.
Probably a silly question, but do you have to install string ferrules through the body or is that a top-load bridge? It's hard to tell.
There are no silly questions. You won't have to install string ferrules in the body for either kit, as you would a telecaster. The hardtail is a top-load bridge. The tremolo model is routed in the back where of the body where the springs, spring claw and tremolo block are located. There is a slotted cover. You load from the back, up through the holes in the tremolo block and then over the bridge, just as you would with a Stratocaster. FYI - I don't think it's necessary to go through the body, even with a telecaster. If you check out my video before this one, I show how I made 2s4 lapsteel guitars using a tele bridge. I made those top-loading, because you can top-load a tele bridge and I can't hear a difference. Also, you need to be really careful when drilling the holes, even with a drill press. I've done it a few times. The StewMac Wilkinson tele kits I built were pre-drilled and they used CNC. Some people say the bridge might break in a few years, but it hasn't happened yet and I use heavy strings for slide work. I do the through the body on my telecaster kits, because it's traditional and pre-drilled. And I press them in with either my drill press or an arbor press. Same when I'm installing tuner ferrules. I don't pound them in anymore.
