    I like Junior Valentine. He seems like a good ump to me. He makes the calls as they should be and does a good job.
    If MLB/teams/whatever don't like the rules, change the rules. Don't change the umps calling the rules.

      The thing is, the managers/players/announcers/whatever _don't_ _know_ the rules, as seen in a lot of these CCS vids. They have a rule in their head that they alone think is the rule, and get mad when an ump did not a follow a rule that they themselves have made up. The "check swing" rule being one of the most obvious ones, since the rule is super vague as hell and has absolutely no specifics at all.

      @@Call_me_E_C yup, I wish they would look at that rule more, find away to cause less grief to umps and satisfy the teams. Hell knows what it would be because sometiems these guys half swing a ball for base hits.

    Yep, when I get frustrated I always yell at the cops things like "YOU MISSED THE LAST F***ING THREE SPEEDERS" at the top of my lungs. And they just let it go because they know I'm frustrated. Well, no they don't. Usually ends up with handcuffs and being read Miranda rights. Seriously though, some guys need to grow up and start taking responsibility rather than taking their shit out on everything else. That umpire is not the reason the A's suck.

    2 no-nos.. arguing balls/strikes... and you can hear he's making it personal... both alone are enough for an EJ.. add in he's NOT the manager and your presence isn't needed here any more..

    He was angry because the home plate umpire was calling swings and not asking for help when the A’s were hitting so when he asked for help and they said no swing then he got upset

    • @timothystamm3200
      @timothystamm3200 13 днів тому +1

      Okay, but the Home Plate umpire doesn't have to appeal: It's his call until he asks for help. And if he thought they were obvious, which they might have been, he doesn't need to ask for help.

    I know it's fun to make fun that he said missed 3 when there were only 2 in this game...BUT this was a DH, and Emil Jimenez was at 1st in G1 and 3rd in G2. Coach Emerson is probably referring to missing 3 check swings in the combined games

      In MLB, they bring in an extra umpire for DH"s and have the HP umpire sit the game they aren't working. For this one, Emil Jimenez had 1st in the G1 and 3rd in G2. Most likely the coach was referring to a combined effort from both games :)

    No harm to Junior, but I swear that he is in the ejections every single week. It is either him or his crew.

      @Leafsdude 14 днів тому +1

      Considering 83 ejections over 11 1/2 weeks with 20 crews working ~14 games a day, that's not surprising. I'd bet most crews are ejecting at least once every week.

    Could have gone either way. Who's to say an assistant hitting coach on the O's would have been gone if Emil said swing?

  • @vincentwendt720
    @vincentwendt720 14 днів тому

    Realistically, if MLB is going to continue to use ambiguous rule for check swings, the ejections are likely going to continue. I really don't understand why MLB continues to use a very ambiguous rule when the NCAA has created a framework for a more definitive rule. Then the umpires have to deal with arguing, which lead to ejections. After all of that happens, the rules is still as subjective as it was before the argument even happened. The other part that I find bafflings is knowing that this has been source of controversy for decades, why haven't the thirty owners collectively petition the rules committee to make a rule that's more than just did the batter "attempt to strike at the pitch".

    • @donaldthomas7070

      MLB probably thinks that arguments over check swings add some spice to what may often be an otherwise boring game.
