As a Welshman when he retired!Incredible career though perhaps the first to be able to play across the back row and still be world class!

Dallaglio was just a leader and a big occasion man. Whether it be with Wasps or England you kind of felt more comfortable when he was in the team. He never took a backward step and led from the front. An amazing player. My personal favourite moment was him spoiling the fairytale ending for Johnson and Back at Leicester... everything was geared for it to be their day, the big sign off and Dallaglio and his Wasps team had better ideas. Fair play.

Interesting to hear Lol talk as if it was aslow start. As a keen - but not nearly good enough - backrower, who playedwith both Tim Rodber and Ben Clarke before being left in their wake, I was already hearing stories about the wonderkid Dellaglio from younger mates when he was still making his way to the England U18s team. Make no mistakes, he's absolute class...and has been ever since he was just a teenager.

Really enjoyed your tales Lawrence. As an Irish fan you were always someone we didn’t like playing against which shows how great you were. Loved watching you play in any other game. You played with a fans mentality- passion, skill and direct force. Inspiring to see what you are now involved in. Thanks for the moments and the memories.

A True 'Hard Fella'. My favourite LD moment? Him scoring 'That' try at the 6 Nations in 2000 against the Welsh. He bulled his way over the white-wash, whilst carrying, and being hung onto by four or five Welshmen, who were defending their try line against the ' Great Un-loved'. Power and intent personified by this fine sportsman.

you were my fave number 8, loved watching you play, even though I grew up in NZ and now live in Au, Eng and Lions are the teams I support and have done since 1964, was overjoyed when you toppled Au in the Cup. everyone was saying the team were too old, but you battled strongly all the way BRAVO Lawrence

Lawrence is a hero, an inspiration to poor kids who have no direction in life by showing them that rugby will accept them and allow them to thrive and be a part of the family. He is the archetypal hard rugby forward and the proudest Englishman you could ever meet but is unafraid to show his emotions. Thanks for some amazing memories Lawrence.

As a welshman I was destined to hate the English rugby team lol but I also recognised quality and Lawrence stood out for me with his no nonsense approach hard as nails and that's how I got into following wasps and that 2004 final against Toulouse is my stand out moment

    • @jonbarnes2424

He was ferocious on the pitch, I remember how much he'd put in against Wales: he'd feel more like the bad guy than an opposition player. Saying that, he was always great off the pitch and his post-playing career has proven him to be up there amongst the top analysts with his knowledge of the game. I've always liked how he's willing to acknowledge the emotion of sport as much as its technical and tactical sides.

I remember the munster wasps semis in 2004. Totally outnumbered fan wise, he marched his team down in front of the most hostile terrace to do their warm up in the goal area. What a man. Dont make em like that anymore.

Best memories of Lawrence - the ‘97 Lions, of course. Never took a backward step and then England vs the All Blacks in Wellington. Indomitable. And then 2002/3 in that dominant England team. I’ve lived in NZ for a while and despite the hammering that the Lions took in 2005 the Kiwis were really disappointed that Lawrence didn’t get to play anywhere enough, in a better team. That was the level of respect that the Kiwis had for him. And as we know they don’t hand out respect lightly.

Great video. You’ve been a rugby inspiration to me and now my kids, especially given all you’ve been through. I was at Twickenham in 2004 for the Heineken win. I had a week long hangover after. What a great team with a truly influential leader. As for RWC 2003, tears in my eyes just thinking about it. And I’m no Irish-Italian
