I honestly think it's kind of a mess, really. The narration and script is in dire need of editing, it is needlessly verbose and often confusing, and more than once uses words incorrectly. I can hear that this guy is young, so I'm sure he'll get much better as time goes by, but I must say I was disappointed with the material after reading all this praise in the comments. Regarding the evidence of 'place'. Much indicates that William landed at Bulverhythe, east of Pevensey - where the landing was historically said to have taken place. I, amongst many others, believe that the battle actually took place at Crowhurst, a small town to the west of Battle - the town said, officially, to be the site of the Battle of Hastings. Living close to Hastings, I have done the 'tour' of the Battle site and enjoyed the experience, but the amount of historical evidence discovered was - minimal - to say the least. William swore to build an abbey at the site of the battle. There is an abbey at Battle, but ruins of an abbey have also been discovered at Crowhurst. I understand there is a major road scheduled to be built over the grounds of the probable true battle site at Crowhurst and this is causing bitterness as there has been no chance to excavate th. And of coursee area. Chances are any remains of interest will be lost for ever. I am just a 'dabbler' in this area of history and no expert. If I have got anything wrong, I do apologise.

I see how the de Clare family helped him get to power. They all coming from Rollo the great. The Normans took over from the Anglo Saxons and other Vikings. de Brionne after 1066 becomes de Clare.

William may seem brutal nowadays but that's because we are judging him based on today's morals. For the XI century it was considered normal and expected for dukes and kings to conquer more land and subdue the locals. It's quite a humiliating ending for him though, to be left dead for days stripped naked.

It's a wonder mankind survived the middle-ages.

How's this for a conspiracy theory? William had an uncle who "died" a few years before Will was born named William So Robert called his son after his dead brother - a practice still observed in Norway today. But it wasn't William who died in 1025 but his cousin Edward Atheling and William was slipped in to fill the gap. William was also the first to abolish slavery in England after the Domesday book was written.
Got rid of slavery and brought in serfdom which was a more palatable term.
Just think in another 45 years it will have been 1000 years since the battle of Hastings

Yes he was. He ran my ancestors out of there villages and killed some us. They moved around alot after that and finally some ended up in the US in the 1800s. To me he didn't conquer he stold our land.

William may seem brutal nowadays but that's because we are judging him based on today's morals. For the XI century it was considered normal and expected for dukes and kings to conquer more land and subdue the locals. It's quite a humiliating ending for him though, to be left dead for days stripped naked.
Today's morals are window dressing to distract and deceive the masses, while entirely weaker men and women ignore morals totally using ridiculous laws and rules subjugate us. His death was harsh indeed!👍

@@SetTrippin82; yes, but in the 11th Century peasants had a "rough row to hoe" under any King, Prince, Baron, or Duke. It just wasn't a good time to be a member of the "working class". If you got a little ahead, the "nobles" took it away from you, and then when the King got into a family squabble with his son, uncle, or cousin, he expected you to go out and die on some God forsaken battlefield to keep him in power. It's a wonder mankind survived the middle-ages.

They brutalized england, shockwaves we still feel today, the began the class society of today.

How's this for a conspiracy theory? William had an uncle who "died" a few years before Will was born named William So Robert called his son after his dead brother - a practice still observed in Norway today. But it wasn't William who died in 1025 but his cousin Edward Atheling and William was slipped in to fill the gap. My maternal grandpa was a FitzGerald/ Desmond/ Geraldine. Odoh FitzGerald came over with William, and served as royal chamberlain. The family went on to marry in with the Twdyrs and were finally deposed in 1607 after the Desmond rebellions in Ireland.
