- Ebeneh is a wild orchid that grows on the ground. It is distributed in Japan, the Korean Peninsula, and China. It is named Ebine because its rhizome looks like a shrimp.
I went to see ebine at “EBINE YAMAYURIEN” in Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture. I was surprised at the variety of colors and types of flowers, and most of all, at the large number of flowers in bloom. The yellow flowers are especially vivid. Although it is only for a short time in spring, it is nice to see beautiful orchids. I heard that it is difficult to grow Ebine, even though horticultural varieties are available. We are grateful to the volunteers who are growing them with great care.
