Great instructional video. Thanks Jerome. As much as I enjoy watching you work on your more established trees it’s really helpful to view videos like this. Thanks
i like that yall didnt edit out the thinking phase. thats an important step to making sure you are confident in what you want. also i agree its better to have it look like it got knocked down in a storm.
I'd love to see more videos on other types of trees using this technique. Could it be used on a Cyprus Hinoki? I have a small one, about a year old; how many years should I wait to apply this technique if I could do so?
Great instructional video mate. Here in Australia we can get away with doing it in any season, depending where you live. I have a small forest of Ficus Figs that I inadvertently obtained by sticking in branches of the Ficus Fig in a pot whilst pruning. I may try this on them.
Thanks for another great instructional video. Love the "blown-over" position for its dramatic effect. As a bonsai "newbie" . You give me courage to grow my abilities.
Thanks for the video!! Do you think it’s possible to make such an arrangement with a rock and bury it under the soil in a deep pot so that it grows over it? I live somewhere very hot and dry, no moss grows here and my bonsai is a buttonwood.
I do the same with bonsai where i have to picture a "story" in my mind of how it would have grown like that in full scale in the wild. it's more artistic than following strict bonsai style techniques
Fennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnntttaaaaastikkkkkkkkkkkk Mate , can I know why is the water connected to each Bonsai in the back , & the water overflowing ...... Thank you .
Sphagnum moss can potentially harbor the fungi, Sporothrix schenckii, which can cause the chronic disease sporotrichosis, when spores enter the skin through abrasions, scratches, or small wounds. It is good practice to wear gloves when handling Sphagnum Moss.
Hi. Love your channel. I have made a root over rock and for last two years the roots have not attached themselves with the rock. They just keep growing around the rock. Can you advise what's wrong? Thanks
Beautiful arrangement of the tree on the rock and the pot. Well balanced picture. Great! Will you at some stage think of shortening the tree by removing the top part?
Hey, thank you for your kind words! Yes I will shorten the tree once the roots have attached to the rock! For now I will let the tree grow pretty freely
I've never Bonsai'ed before. (is that a word?) But, I certainly learned by watching the process. GREAT explanation along the way and loved how you considered the story line of a possible storm blowing the tree against the rock! It was a dark stormy night...... BRAVO!!
I went to the keys in Florida and I went to a beach when it was low tide and I saw and took many nice and big rocks for bonsais. Ima have to wash them tho cuz they probably salty
awesome. I found an incredible location for root over rock - rocks how would you suggest I sell my rocks to others. Amazing limestone rocks with great cavities and weathering.
Hey Justin, this tree sold immediately after the video came out as many of our trees do. One of my employees did a home visit at the owners home and said it has grown a lot. Ill try to get a picture next time and show the update.
I see at the end of video you have some small ponytail palms. I have one that is 4 foot and it keeps growing babies out of the trunk,I cut them and try to grow in cactus soil . Is this the proper way to do that to get more?
Beautiful work, thanks for sharing! I have had two trees wrapped for a year and they are showing signs of new growth👏🏼 Do you happen to have a video of what you do when you unwrap the tree? Or any pointers? I just want to make sure I’m not missing anything. Thanks! 😊
Hi Ryan, as the new roots start to grow, they grow along the rock, and as they thicken they will attach and then eventually fuse. The tree is still alive and is doing great.
Would you please publish a quick update of this root over rock project ? I think after 2 years, this must have evolved quite interestingly.
"Looks a little more GNARLY.." KILLED ME JEROME XD GOOD WORK!
Thanks Jerome for this video 🎥🎥🎥
My pleasure!

Nice job 👍. Can you make a video about which trees are best for bonsai cultivation with pros and cons and tricks.
I'd love to see more videos on other types of trees using this technique. Could it be used on a Cyprus Hinoki? I have a small one, about a year old; how many years should I wait to apply this technique if I could do so?
Wow. Very cool.and creative
Beautiful, thanks🌹🙏🌹
got good information brother. You're welcome dear I am from India....
Goddd amazingly beautiful and the demostrator too 😉
I bought a bonsai that apparently is ready to be planted on a rock. It’s got some type of cloth on it right now. I hope it works. Much appreciated
That sounds like burlap which can be used to do root over rock. Make sure you don't remove it too early.

Ok, thanks for your great work.

Thank you Michael for your kind words! The only way to learn is to try :)
Wow so nice I like that 🤗😶❤🙌
Love this. Never tried root over rock, but come spring here in the UK it is definite project for me to attempt if I can find the right rock.
Great video
Nice work
I usually plant the tree and the rock into a deep container and expose the root gradually. So I am curiously looking for updates on this one. Thanks!
Hey Basti, I like to do the same especially on trees that don't attach to the rock easy like a buttonwood for instance!
Great gob 😊😊😍
Looking great, can we expect an update on how it’s taken to the rock?
Hey Warren, this composition was sold shortly after the video was released.
I notice a couple cables going inside the trees on the background, are those a pair of “sensors”and auto watering mechanism ?
Wow ....beautiful
I find use saran wrap works great to not only hold the tree to the rock, but also to hold the moisture in the soil.
Jaclyn Soileau that’s a good method, you can also burry the rock.
Thanks for the video!!

Could you share an update when the try is approx 1 year in training?
Great tree btw!

Jerome your videos are great. Informative and entertaining! Thank you very much for them!
Thank you Stepan for enjoying them and your feedback!
just wondering how the tree ends up after romoval of the moss? does it take a year or more before it can grow without the moss? looks great btw
Hi, it depends on specie and climate but the moss was removed about a year after and it was growing well on its own.
Great Bonsai♥️♥️♥️♥️
Amazing videos! hi from México
Glad you like them!

Hi ... what is the T shirt size . .. and i like to buy this item ..
Hi Trojan, you can buy it right here on UA-cam.
So would you wrap that root ball in plastic to retain moisture or not? oh and why the gloves for moss handling?

I should mention, they’ve been wrapped for one year now.
Hey Ilya, I am in the process of making a video of what to do after the roots have been wrapped. Stay tuned 🙂

V.fine leson Thanks
Thank you.. Very useful video..
How will the tree cling to the rock after the wire? I would be amazed if this tree is still alive today.
Hi Ryan, as the new roots start to grow, they grow along the rock, and as they thicken they will attach and then eventually fuse. The tree is still alive and is doing great.
Baaaagus selali 👍👍👍
