The 2021 model year introduces the sixth generation of BMW's M3 since it debuted in 1986 as a homologation special. Built to accommodate DTM's requirement that a certain number of road legal vehicles be produced, the first M3 was a stripped down, spiced up two-door coupe that quickly became a sports car icon. 35 years later, the G80 M3 shares few aesthetic and mechanical traits with its ancestor, but BMW's M division promises the same purist driving spirit.
Like its predecessors, the latest M3 comes standard with rear-wheel drive and a manual transmission. Such a combination is rare for any vehicle in 2021, and among sport sedans, the latest M3 is a party of just one. Unlike its forebear, however, the new M3 Competition (packaged with an 8-speed automatic exclusively) packs over 500 horsepower from a twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine, can sprint to 60 mph in under 4.0 seconds, and doesn't run out of breath until 180 mph.
Stylistically, the new M3 is a large departure from the modest, handsome design of previous M sedans. But did BMW just give the new M3 an unfortunate makeover, or did it also change its characteristic driving charm? Actually, I really am starting to appreciate the grill! I just saw the new m3 last week in a darker color and it looked aggressive!

I agree and I think there were three things to consider. One, the previous F80 looked too similar to the F30. Yes an avid BMW enthusiast can tell the difference but most people would think they’re the same car. I would know as I have an F30 with an M sport pack and a lot of other goodies and I get asked often if it’s an M3. You could throw an M3 front and rear bumper and mirrors and a quad exhaust on an F30 and it would very difficult for the average non car person to tell the difference.
Secondly, the grill was to pay homage to the old 1936 328. It had a very tall and skinny grill so the tall grill is far from being anything new on a BMW.
Lastly and most importantly, this actually looks like an M car now. M cars are supposed to be loud and boisterous and say “look at me!” Elegance was never meant for an M vehicle as style doesn’t help you put down a good time on the track. The G80/82 now says to the world that it’s something different than the regular 3 series and it has the functionality to back that statement up.
Disagree with all the talk saying the g80 look bad. It’s a BEAUTIFUL car from every single angle
I picked up my 2023 M3 comp x last week, even though I am still under the 1200 mile break in…. It is a monster. I am trying to keep it under 4500 rpm(per dealer) but it is difficult 😁
The reason I purchased the 2022 BMW G82 M4 .. I'm a first time buyer and its possible the last of a gas engine for BMW before they start making electric cars. Love the Grill!!!!!!!!
Looks are subjective. A reviewer is giving their personal opinion. It doesn't mean we have to agree with their opinion. I completely disagree with this guys opinion on the front end. I think it's by far the best front end on any BMW before it. That's just my opinion and many people will agree and disagree.

I've never owned a BMW before because I've never liked the looks. I've sold my Audi RS3 Saloon so I can buy the new M3. That says a lot to me.

The M3 "Silver Fox" was simply an outstanding automobile in every aspect. Performance dynamics that put a smile on your face and awesome good looks that made you want to be seen in it. How many times did you drive Silver Fox just see the reaction of random people? When a car looks as good as it drives it gives your ego a boost and serves as a positive reflection on your taste in automobiles.
You are so right, Edd! I adored that car. The classic style and proportions of the E36 were so good, but the driving experience was that much better. I sold it because I was recovering from my motorcycle accident and wasn’t able to drive it, but I miss that car so much.

Taken this one in Touring exactly in the color combo. Just discarded the bucket seat in favor of the classic sport seats.
Ik you talked about the carbón seats, but do you prefer them over regular seats? As a daily driver? Are they comfortable? I hope there since they cost close to $4,000
They are very comfortable when you are in them, but getting in and out is a bit of a chore. Therefore, they may not be the best choice for a daily driver.

It doesn’t really have anything to do with height, it’s just the shape of the seat. It’s hard to articulate your body around.

Traditionally, I have been a Lexus IS driver, and I currently have a revocable deposit down on an IS 500 - a car that you reviewed, of course. With that said, I also have a revocable deposit down on a 2022 BMW M3 Competition xDrive - basically because I am undecided. I realize that these cars are not in the same space performance-wise - nor are they price-wise. Finally, I almost purchased an E46 many years ago, but I found that it was way too stiff for my daily taste. If I purchased a new 2022 M3, I would probably use the comfort mode most of the time. With all of that context, I was wondering if you have any particular thoughts to help sway me. Thanks for any thoughts - much appreciated.
Thanks for your feedback! The IS is definitely a smoother riding vehicle, and the soundtrack is unbeatable in this segment. However, when driven spiritedly, the M3 is FAR more satisfying (steering, transmission tuning, braking, power delivery). Also, the M3's interior is more contemporary and spacious. Knowing how I'd prefer to drive the car, I'd choose the M3. But the IS 500 wins the comfort and sound categories handily.
whoi gets a m3 to use it in comfert mode everyday jus get a 7 series or sclass smh lol

Just so u guess know this guy just like most of us opinion on the grille has changed. I love the grille becuase u can get many different styles like the adro ,CSL and Vorstiener grilled that look so much more aggresive and unique

I hated the new grill when it came out, but after seeing it in person and test driving it, this car is an absolute dream!
I wanted to buy that car, but I live in germany so it's constantly raining at the moment, I don't think this car is a good Idea in Germany
Ur kidding right, xDrive is available now, plus you live in Germany and this car is built in Germany. You have the autobahn, this car is literally built for you, lol.

@@voqzmk2 If its boring driving fast then why do you want an M3? And how is xDrive boring when it lets you put all that power down and drive harder in the rain. You can still deactivate xDrive and drive like a rwd car on those perfect days. I live in NYC and we get more rain than Seattle plus snow and having xDrive is a great option.

For this color combo id fork over the extra money for the seats. Besides this combo is rather not spend the money for the carbo seats.

The non-competition BMW M3 makes 479hp. The Competition version makes 503hp
I’ve found nothing to be wrong with the grille online or in person. It’s subjective so I digress, but I feel people are being a little over dramatic. Let BMW be innovative, at least they are bold enough to try something new.

I have no problem with the grille, but the car as a whole, is waaay overstyled for my taste. BMW is known for subtle sportiness, but this is boy-racer styling. Leave that up to Honda and Kia. Actually, the 2022 Civic has toned the styling way down.

Dude made no sense when discussing the design of the car. He loves the protruding bottom of the rear but didn’t even point out how it is symmetrical with the front of the cars design. His critique of the front was a rambling mess and sounded like he was just stringing together words to sound smart.

Stunning vehicle, the grille has grown on me especially when combined with a darker paint color.
You right about the color. It makes the hideous front more visible and the blue interior doesn't go with the exterior color. Over all the current m3 is like the honda civic type R. it is trying to be cool but it is really not. The f80 m3 looks better but it is more refined. It doesn't scream for attention. The interior doesn't looks as fancy but it is not bad either. And the front seats in the current M3 don't look comfortable at all. This car is definitely one of those cars that people won't keep for a long time or if they keep it, they will just let sit in the garage and only take it out on weekends.

Spot on with the exterior analysis... BMW style is too "Hyundaish/Toyotish" nowadays. Sticking w/Audi.
It looks amazing in person and makes the f80 look dated and boring. I have an m340i and parked next to a g80 and it made my car look so plain.
The color is hideous, and the front end looks like it was ripped off an aftermarket mid 2000’s civic body kit. Besides that I like it.

I’ve owned 2, personally. It struck me as awkward from the moment I saw it, but as I said in the video, it’s part of a larger, bizarre front end design. The grille isn’t the only issue.
