    OMG thank you so much! As a graphic designer that's been using Photoshop forever, I was stumped on how to do mockups for powder coating gloss black wheels to gloss white for a personal project - and I was so aggravated that I couldn't solve this on my own.

    thx so much for your video. i believe that this is one of the best method for changing black to white. bcoz most of the tutorial only use solid colour, curve and level to do it, sometimes the image will become "dirty" in the shadow after change.

      Actually George, this is something that I came up with long time ago. I'm in this for over 18 years. I'm not the only one who figure it out, for sure. But I have learned all my Photoshop skills on my own. Long before UA-cam.

      @@georgematei7478 ​ there are no bounds on Photoshop technique. it doesn't matter what technique u apply in graphics design there is only one goal . get the job done. from whom you learn or not just get the job done. and of course its not his technique he just show us the technique how the job is done. "PERFECTLY".so please be understandable when someone gives you the favor to learn something for free.

    Really very interesting tutorial and thank you for showing differents methos for to can change the black colour to any other 👏.
    Would it be possible some day you show how change the colours of a background for can to do something similar to a movie poster like Avengers or other similar? I'm trying to do something like this but the final result I get is not all good as I'd like it.

    To chrome the car paint, just add a Levels layer, set the black point at 3, mid point at 2,50 and the white point to 130. See the magic.

    Thanks for another great tutorial. For me the most efficient way to change a color to white is the gradient overlay. Your way works well, but especially with metallic surfaces or car paint (which normally isn't metallic) the results from the channel mixer sometimes are not realistic even if blend if is used.

      Yes, gradient overlay is a cool too. That's the beauty of Photoshop. You can do things in a multiple ways.

    Do you have two use pen tool or can you use the selection tool and group it? I used selection tool and it's still changing entire image color while grouping.

      You can use any selection method that works for you.

    I believe if you change to a smart object before changing color space the adjustment layers will not be removed.

    I don't get it. When I add a channel mixer adjustment layer and do exactly the same it looks terrible. Just looks like there's alot of high key light, it doesn't change the black color to white at all. Tried it on many different images.

    Turn the car into white -> Use a gradient map with at least 4 points (best way to colorize)

      Yup. That is another way. Maybe more known... The beauty of Photoshop is that you can do same thing in a multiple ways.

      Yep, that is the beauty of photoshop indeed but from all the ways I tried so far, gradient map (if used correctly) seems to "sit" better on most textures, so for me it's one of the most if not the most powerful way of coloring item!

    Don't do this. Just add a colour layer ontop of the black object and change the screen mode to SOFT LIGHT. So much more realistic.
