- While on my recent trip I found it difficult to hold my water bottle and squeeze water through the Platty bag. So I came up with this after searching and not seeing anything available. Please feel free to comment and let me know what you think. Now available! on the web site www.batchstovez...

yes they do make adapters for soda bottles... though your adaptor is pretty spiffy for odd threads.
sawyer.com/products/sawyer-fast-fill-hydration-pack-adapters/
Yes they do my adapter lets you use any Bottle not just a soda bottle. That's the main difference.
nice, pre squeeze the water bottle so water flows in easier :D
That works If the bottle your using can be squeezed otherwise the vent holes will do the trick.
Where can i buy the sawer universal bottle adapter
Gatorade bottle as urinals inside the tent. No need to get up when your warm to go pee.
Yeah the old Stand by However I have migrated to a Hammock these days the ground has gotten to hard or I got to soft.
I should point something out that a lot of people are not aware of. Plastic bottles such as the type used for bottled water often contain BPA. Fine, most bottled water companies have stopped using this type of plastic but it's not a guarantee, we should not be using them at all. Also note, even if the plastic bottle is BPA Free, this will not guarantee it is safe to use. In a 2012 study published in the Canadian Journal of Public Health, researchers from the University of Calgary took 76 samples of water from water bottles of elementary school students. While the bottles tested were indeed BPA Free, they found that nearly two-thirds of the samples had bacterial levels that exceeded that of drinking water guidelines, which may have been the result of "the effect of bacterial regrowth in bottles that have remained at room temperature for an extended period," they are disposable for a reason. The problem is with the plastic, as it ages and cracks (microscopic cracks you cannot see with the naked eye), bacteria forms in the cracks and this leads to contaminants. Consider this, you say hey, it's free, well you get what you pay for right? I would not consider using this type of bottle to drink from, as a dirty bag maybe but not for fresh water storage. If you are using it for fresh water, you are putting more contaminants into your bottle. You could actually be transferring viral contaminant witch the filter is not rated to remove. I liked the video up till that point but I really think we should stress the idea of NOT using disposable bottles. Have a good one bro!

Thank you for the information, There is a lot of debate on that subject, The adapter is Universal and will work with any bottle that has a cap. I personally use a fresh bottle on every trip after all there free.
😒
Do you have a Part Number for the Platypus water container? Everything I'm seeing in Amazon in the Reviews, People are saying these bags will not trade on to the Mini's????
Sorry no Part or model # on the Platty this one is the first model they made a very long time ago. I do know several people using them i think there still using the same thread. Unless its a wide mouth.
0k, Thanks for your info.
I heard they changed the threads from what he has. Mine screws on but it's cross threaded, and leaks. I plan on using this on the inflow and outflow side. I have two Platypus bags, one clean, one dirty.
That's a great idea I have heard from several people that use this method.
I'm sorry. I meant to say: Thread on and Not Trade on to the Mini's. : )
are sawyer sqeeze fakes out there?
I have Not heard of any there very inexpensive I cant see it being profitable to counterfeit.
@ $20
Of course, there is the Sawyer inline adapter, which retails for about $5. Yours, which is more versatile for $5. Then I just ran across these, which look just like the Sawyer adapter, for $1
blumatsystems.com/product/61/Bottle-Cap-with-Blumat-8-mm-barb
+Bill Coulam Interesting? I'm not sure what the thread size is on that adapter but if it is the same as the Sawyer then it should fit a 2 Liter bottle type thread. Thanks Sam
Great mod! What material is the adapter manufactured with? Thank you.
Chris Carle PVC
I'm certainly not aiming this at you, but I really wish people would stop carrying any of those flimsy water bottles into the woods, or any kind of Gatorade, Pepsi, Coke, or you name it bottles. People bring their Nalgene, or other brand bottles, back home. Too many leave the chap, "free" bottles in the woods Particularly if one develops a leak. Nalgene bottles, and just about any others that cost money, get brought home. These "free" bottles very often do not.
+James Ritchie
Well I agree but I think that says more about someone's character than anything else, It's not the bottles Fault ?
I hate drinking out of plastic bottles as I always imagine the plastic residue has leeched into the water. I prefer to drink out of a metal or glass bottle.
I'm not sure if the adapter can be used on those bottles I guess it depends on the cap used.
Genius! Is it possible to make a cap, my plan is to drill into the nalgene bottle cap and leave your adapter in place. I personally like the heavy bottles, like you said its a preference.
Thank you,
Yes you should be able to use it with a nalgene Bottle however the one I have is a bit thicker in the center for the cap keeper so the cap doesn't get lost. I can make one or two a little longer for that application if you like.
Talk about a product for over 7 minutes and attempt to sell it on your website and you don't even show it working? Where is all of the air going to escape to allow the bottle to be filled if it's completely sealed at both ends?
Thank you for your comment, The cap you choose to use the adapter on will need 2 holes one for the adapter and a small vent hole to allow air to escape. I only decided to make a batch of the adapters after several requests for them. I will do a Short follow up video and demonstrate how to install and use the adapter.
minibulldesigns has an adapter but it is 10.00 for a cap and a piece of tube.... not a good value IMHO
+Taraz Pariseau Sorry I'm not sure what he has , As far as I know nothing like this is available. Thanks Sam
www.minibulldesign.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=222&idcategory=3
+Taraz Pariseau +Taraz Pariseau Aw yes I see similar but different My adapter is made to
adapt to any cap but yes I agree with you however there is a good bit
of labor involved to make both.
Sam
Consider that you are buying the solution, not a piece of plastic.
Yes thank you
NIce idea. You can also plug the male end of the outflow side of the Mini right into a Smart Water flip cap as well. It fits good & tight.
+TheGoatMumbler Yes you can,
However I caution you with that method the air in the bottle needs to be able to escape, or risk rupturing the squeeze pouch.
TheGoatMumbler I just back the cap off a quarter turn or so and that allows the pressure to escape.
That should work
Or take a smart water bottle cap and glue it (top to top / back to back) to any other water bottle cap and drill a hole thru them :o) I like the 700ml sport top water bottles that weigh almost nothing. Or with your idea, also drill a little vent whole to let the air out since it already has a hole in it so you cant use it for a lid any more
How can I buy one?
Look for them on my site Maybe Monday.
How do i get one
dutchwaregear.com/product/universal-bottle-adapter/
How much $?
$6 plus shipping for the first run.
Now available on the web site www.batchstovez.com/accessories.php
Whatever your bottle set just carry one extra cap with the hole in it. That's the one used during filling. Then put a normal cap on for walking without spilling.
What size hole should be drilled in the cap? 3/8 in?
Cool deal, glad I stumbled upon your video Sam. I was just looking around considering the sawyer mini as a lighter weight backpacking option for my Katadyn Hiker pump filter which weighs in at 15.5 oz with filter, hoses and carry bag not to mention the Sawyer mini has an almost limitless lifespan. You adapters open some great options for use and adaptations. BTW, I'm still looking for the new bottle stoves to show up in the store :-)
Hi Jim,
You will love the Sawyer Mini the filter is only a couple ounces, they work great the water tastes fine I haven't had any issues. Take a look at my Cheaha Falls video I demo it hanging from a Platty works great. My BS 2.0 FE coming soon.
Very good mod, i am expecting a sawyer mini in the mail in the next week or so. Should be a nice addition to my kit. I never used a filter usually drank from streams and rivers or carried rivers up in my area. lol Tho better safe then sorry.
You wont regret purchasing the Mini it works great I just wanted to tweak it a bit for the way I use it. the water tastes great and the thing should last a long time.
The pressure build up will prevent the water from getting into the bottle.
Yes that has been brought up there is a vent hole to allow the air to escape. V
Thanks.
Is there any leaking from around the adapter nipple? Any need to epoxy the adapters to the inside of the bottle caps? Thanks.
+Alan Williams
Hi Alan, No you do not want to epoxy the adapter, It is designed to be turned a 1/4 turn to close the vent hole this will stop the flow of water if you happen to have it connected in a drip setup with a hanging platty etc.
Air need to escape the bottle when water enters if it is completely sealed it will not work.
Thanks Sam
I am glad I am subscribed to you, Sam.
I just got my Sawyer mini and was wondering how I was going to adapt it on regular water bottles.
I don't have a 2 litter soda bottle here at home but I assume they are the same size as the water ones.
The Sawyer mini works great! it's just a little difficult to hold the bottle and squeeze the platty at the same time. The adapter will fit all caps you just have to put two holes in the cap one fore the adapter and a small vent hole.
Why don't they just add threads to the one side the same way they have on the other? They way we can put a bag on both side and just let it be gravity fed.
I'm not sure maybe to be different from the regular Sawyer and to save weight.
I need one of those. I have a 8 day trip the first of next month. If there is any way I sure could use the adapter on my trip.
It appears as though these will be useful to many so I will make a small batch and put them on the web site.
Rats !! but thanks for getting back to me. Nice work!!
A great addition to my Mini...I love the complete job that was done here for us hammock campers. A SUPER VIDEO AND WELL DONE!
+Jay Collins Thanks Jay this was a great tip So I wanted to share This should come in handy.
Sam

Great solution! How much does this adapter weigh out of curiosity?
thank you, 1.4 grams
how do use release the pressure that builds up as the bottle fills with clean water ?
There is a follow up video on the adapter that talks about this.

God Day would like to get one if you make them. Thanks
Look for them on my site Maybe Monday.
That is awesome. I was thinking someone should make this exact thing.
Yeah Me too ! I had one of those light bulb moments! LOL
Thank you my friend for sharing this great bit of information. I find it very helpful. Be safe out there and have fun. 🤗
Thank You!
How do you get a good enough seal to prevent water from leaking out around the adaptor?
It's hasn't been much of a problem the hole is a tight fit the adapter snaps in place. When filling water may get pushed out the vent hole if you over fill. Here is a video where I'm testing the adapter in a drip system on the trail.
ua-cam.com/video/S1uyFjdMk4g/v-deo.html
Sam... what a terrific idea !! I'd be interested.... how much you selling them for??
Thanks you!
There available at www.batchstovez.com/accessories.php
Tried to Email you but wasn't able from your Logo. I have two favorite stainless steel canteen cups, kidney shaped *the old WWII and viet Nam era). Do you offer lids for that size cup?? I"ve seen the ones on Amazon.

I posted a install video also ua-cam.com/video/AVi_-8GVOM4/v-deo.html
You had the right idea! Try making a silicone cone with the hose in it. That should snugly fit into a wide variety of bottle mouths. I think the aquarium silicone calk is food safe since it has to be fish friendly. I still use my military surplus plastic canteen myself, but that cone should still work on that. It's basically a rubber cone cork with a hole through the center. Lab suppliers might even have them already if you don't want to make one.
Also, while molding the cone, you'll want to run a smooth, small diameter metal wire in between the middle hole for the hose and the wall of the mold as a pressure release so the air can escape the bottle while filling it.
