That opening was sick!
I appreciate that 🙏🏾
I love your presentation of this kind of stuff, which can be so intimidating and seemingly impossible until it's broken down like this. You don't waste too much time telling, but do such a great job of showing how it's done! ❤
Thank you for your kind words. I'm so glad you enjoy my approach to teaching. Happy 2024 to you sir!
“ might find helpful “ absolutely unquestionable HELPFUL!!! Saw & met Ed B ( me bragging again 😂) . These Ed B phrases is great thanks) Ed talked a lot about New Orleans at the clinic . Saw him play with New & Old Dreams . Love this Ed stuff . ❤
That's amazing that you saw Mr. Blackwell live. Must have been amazing Jeff! Thanks for sharing.
Just got your awesome bebop phases . Very nice .
Hey Q, big fan here! Can I suggest doing a video with phrases from Ralph Peterson Jr. ?
Good idea! I love Uncle Ralph.
Masterful, as always ❤🍵

I'm new to playing jazz, and let me tell you how much value I get from your lessons!Thank you for taking your time to teach in a way that is inviting, informative, and fun.
So happy my lessons have helped Ryan!
Great! Looking forward to getting the new Ebook! The great Igor Stravinsky once said “good composers borrow, great composers steal”. So do great players! Mwahahaha FP
Exactly! We're in the profession of theft Frankie P. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's fucking awesome that you've indicated the drummer's name for each phrase, the album in which it's played, the song, and the minute 👍👍
Figured it’d helpful. Glad you appreciate it:)
Doing a little catch up! Amazing content as always! I will buy this ebook for sure! 🎉

Thank you, Mr. Q! I've faithfully followed your lessons, absorbing a wealth of knowledge. As a Brazilian drummer, I'm dedicated to mastering my home rhythms, but I'm equally excited about exploring the intricate world of jazz. The materials from this lesson have been downloaded, and I must express that the experience has been truly awesome! All the best!
Wow! That truly means a lot and I'm so happy to read your words. Obrigado sir for watching and following.
Loving your fill at the end! I’m playing through vol 1 every day and loving it! Def need this 2nd vol! Thanks for this Q!
Glad to hear you’re enjoying Vol. 1 so much!
Opening intro: 1st listen : a kind of double-time 4:3, and with accents - I reckon? Nice Q. Real nice !!
Your guess is as good as mine on that intro. I’d have to listen to it again but broken down, I guarantee it’s nothing too hard or complicated. I can’t play hard or complicated things🤣🤣
Wonderful stuff Q! I’m constantly dipping into the phrases from the first e-book for motivation, inspiration and to spark creativity so I can’t wait to start digging into the second. Thanks for all your hard work on this channel, it’s always appreciated!
My pleasure my man! Glad you’re getting good usage out of my e-Books.
This is a gem Quince!! The Lewis Nash thing is something I stumbled on myself sometime ago and the Bill Stewart thing is one I wrote down and lost in a pile of stuff and since forgot. Thanks for the reminder on that one. These are all slick as a baby's butt!
Glad you enjoyed it Gary!
So great stuff…thanks for posting..
My pleasure Anton!

great video as always!
Thanks for the visit!
As many know, you can get so mileage out of these after shedding,to start these on beat 2,or 3 - TOTALLY DIIFFERENT ,but the same.Maybe, you could do a lesson like that for us about a simple lick or patternthat sounds different on different parts of the bar - YOU ARE A GREAT DRUMMER!
That's a great idea Matt! Thanks for watching and thanks for the feedback.
The video I was searching for, thanks always Quincy 🙌🔥
Happy to hear that!

Greetings Q,
I love love love learning from you. I was wondering if you teach at a school? Peace and Blessings to you and your family. -S
Thank you. I teach at the University of North Texas.
Simple phrase but dynamic
Exactly!
Sorry for 2nd comment but all phases are so 🆒🙏
All of your comments welcome my friend!
Thank you for talking about Ed Blackwell, one of the most amazing drummers to have graced the bandstand. Wasn’t the basis of his drumming, more rooted in New Orleans second line style?
@luiszulaga6575
Ed talked much apart his New Orleans past “ and I the way back we played “ influence his work with Ornette et Al at a clinic I saw & met him at . Lovely man & giant artist.
At one stage he was doing a second line groove & put one hand to the ride - Ornette. Incredible .
My pleasure Luis and @jeffreywegener8841 is spot on the money!
In the first one,can you wing or blag the 8's,instead of unisons, but flamming them, right hand being the grace note of the flam - IF it were to be a traditional flam,OR to YOU,does it really need to be unison to execute what you are playing ? From Mad Matt UK
You can certainly play with flamming the "unisons" though I always play them as true unisons. That can be YOUR spin on this slick phrase. Thanks for the question Matty!
Hi Quincy, could you tell me what cymbal you're playing there?
Hi Christian. Have a look. The description box below the video.
Can the e book be printed please ❤
It’s a PDF so you’re welcome to print it. It could be a part of a larger printed book eventually down the road.
Why do I feel like Jimmy Chamberlin influenced by this since for me, there are some fills on this video that he has played before in his songs?
All of the fills in this video are “classic” rock fills, so I’m sure Jimmy and many other great drummers have played these Phils thousands of times.
