- Dozens of people have died in a fire at a migrant processing centre in Mexico that officials say started during a protest against deportations.
At least 39 people have died in the deadly fire, many which are thought to be Venezuelans trying to reach the US.
The fire at the centre in Ciudad Juárez broke out shortly before 22:00 local time (04:00 GMT).
The Mexican city, located across the Rio Grande river from El Paso, Texas, has seen an influx of people in recent weeks.

I hate how the reporter essentially is blaming this on US policy of remain in Mexico. International law states that if someone is going to claim asylum they do so in the FIRST country they escape into. If they're escaping Columbia or Venezuela and want to claim Asylum, then they would seek it in Panama or whatever country borders their own. You can't just pass through five other countries and then pick and choose where to claim asylum. If that's the case are they truly seeking asylum or are they using our own laws against us in order to pass others in line to enter this country?
We also need our leaders to publicly discourage people from making this trip and not the stuff we see today. If anything what they are saying publicly ENCOURAGES people to risk their lives to come here
It's called, why leave a fucked up country to go to the next one next to you? Might as well endure the long journey for a chance at living in the United States. Doesn't matter what side you're on in this issue, no one can deny that life in the United States is comparatively better than most countries in the world. Even the U.S. homeless population have it better than homeless in other countries.
He didn't say that. If you weren't always hyperpolitcal and ready to give your opinions on border-related issues, then you would have heard a factual account without any ulterior motives.
The reason they do not seek asylum in the first country, as you say, is because Central America, is all in the same condition. The nearest country that could actually be different, even is it’s slight, is the States. It’s not an obsession with getting into the US, is that it’s nearest these migrants have, to a different place from the one they’re escaping from.
Also, it’s important to point out, that another thing many argue is that they should ask for asylum before leaving their countries and that they should have their papers in order. It’s important to point out that in many of these countries, the government controls what they see and hear, and also they do not give their people the legal papers needed for this processes, with the intention that they are unable to leave their countries. THIS is the reason many are still risking their lives and trying so hard to reach the US even with the policies by US lawmakers. Even those conditions and threats by the policies, are better than staying where they come from. I cannot understand why that is so hard to understand for some.

I live in El Paso, there's 2500 illegal migrants crossing here DAILY. 2.7 MILLION last year. This is insane and unsustainable.

The solution to reduce migration, legally or otherwise is foreign policy that creates decent living conditions in the countries where migrants come from.
It's not up to foreigners to fix other countries. Venezuela's government is a dumpster fire. It's up to Venezuelan citizens to stay home and fix their own country. Running away just makes it worse. Nothing gets fixed and then people immigrate to the U.S. and complain (to U.S. born citizens who pay taxes) about their rights as immigrants. It's annoying to see the same old story of immigrants expecting to move to the U.S. and be worshipped.

I don't understand every year hundreds of thousands of tourist visit central and South America. Yet still all these people keep trying to get into US illegally. Things cannot be that bad in their home countries. Life in the US isn't an automatic bed of roses. I just don't understand why there is this crazy perception that the US is a place to make easy money.
