As an erstwhile atheist, I was attracted to Buddhism but found it impossible to believe in some of the more metaphysical aspects of the suttas. Then, I read the Buddha's discourse to the Kalamas. So I felt, now I can call myself a Buddhist, for I don't have to take the suttas as read. I do feel that there is benefit in considering the Four Noble Truths leading to the Eightfold Path. No faith, no beliefs, just confidence in that the Dhamma will lead me somewhere, which is better than my present condition.
The books written by Henepola Gunaratana :"The Jhanas in Theravada Buddhist Tradition and Mindfulness in Plain English" help me a lot to complete my research on Buddhist studies at the university of Delhi, India. Thanks a lot for uploading this video. Sadhu, Sadhu, Sadhu
BUDDHA - Kalama SUTTA don’t go by reports, by legends, by traditions, by scripture, by logical conjecture, by inference, by analogies, by agreement through pondering views, by probability, or by the thought, ‘This contemplative is our teacher.’ When you know for yourselves that, ‘These qualities are skillful; these qualities are blameless; these qualities are praised by the wise; these qualities, when adopted & carried out, lead to welfare & to happiness’ - then you should enter & remain in them.
Awesome!
