Dhamma Talk at Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society (KMBS) by Ven. Dr. Punnaji Mahathera on Friday 1st August 2014. The topic "Buddhism & Philosophy: The Kalama Sutta" discusses the manner in which the Buddha had advised the Kamalas by beginning with doubt, and further explores how the Buddha's advice had in fact predicted the birth and development of Western Philosophy.

By making analogies to Western philosophy and psychology, he has opened the door to a deep understanding of the ramifications of ideas that lacking the intellectual and philosophical framework he is able to share. A master is someone who can take a very difficult subject and make it look easy. Think again Mr. Newton, Dr. Freud, and Mr. Einstein!

It has been a long time since a dhamma talk struck such a chord with me as this talk in the last 10 minutes. Speaking about waking from the dream of existence, and viewing this not as an existence, but experience. I've not heard it put quite so simply and deeply as this before.

Buddhism is a religion or a philosophy. The teaching of Lord Buddha is called Lord's Dhamma (Bhagavata Dhammo). The Sutta referred to as Kalama Sutta is a Dhamma Desana. In this Sutta the Lord advices the Kalamas to follow the Majjhima Patipada. The great, nor the greatest discovery of a human mind.
