A true warrior. Don't force him to be a house dog. Guarding is what he was born to do and wants to do. As I understood the original story, the last dead coyote was found a considerable distance from where this all began. So, he engaged in a running battle with the coyotes away from where they initially tried attacking the sheep. Then he turned up two days later back behind his owners house. This dog goes down in guard dog INFAMY. Salute to Casper !
He has permanent injuries that will leave him vulnerable in easy to kill spots. The next attack will kill him. Allow him to retire in peace but still have an active life. He can still guard his family
So, a meat eater is ‘a hero’ for protecting animals bred for meat from other meat eaters by killing 8 individual animals and shall now be rewarded by being given pieces of another animal bred for meat? How does ANY of that make sense? What do you think will happen to those sheep down the road?
He’s done the job of MANY, MANY working dogs. He’s earned a spot in retirement on the sofa. Get several dogs to take his place, please. Solo work is too dangerous for anything or anyone, when it’s your life on the line for your work. Just a beautiful, courageous soul. I’m in awe. Selfless. Sending him all the love in the world. ❤️

Well, he is 20 months and working dogs dont like retirement. Also for the guy talking about guns - good luck, a dog fight is too chaotic to try and shoot what your dog is fighting. You are better off walking up to the coyote and stabbing it to death.
What about him telling the story to young pups when he's an old dog- over and over again - " did I ever tell you about the time I took on 11 coyotes"? 😆
@@MikeBarbarossa the pure bravery on Casper's part, being only 20 months old, going into attack mode on 11 coyotes. Dispatching 8 of them as they were on him. Purple heart material 💜
yea when they regrouped to get their story straight it wasn't a single dog it was a 15 or 20 of them, they were everywhere we were lucky to escape. I live about 20 miles NE of this and the number of coyotes seen recently is going up. Last year there was a bear sighted headed along I85 and mind you this about 35 miles NE of downtown Atlanta
I just lost my Great Pyrenees last year. He honestly was the best dog I have ever owned. Smart as a whip, kind, loving and thought he was human. I miss him more than I miss some people I've known. RIP Blitzen.
I hear ya! I recently lost my "BEAR" ~~~He was my self taught "service dog", who would come up to me when I'd fallen, stand beside me and "brace" so that I could sling my arms over his back, grab some fur and slowly pull myself up. What a BLESSING he was! RIP BEAR 🐻 I miss you SO much BOO BOO.

If I were this dog's owner, I would spend the rest of my days caring for him and making sure he was safe, supervised and loved at all times, I would pamper him and provide everything he would ever need :')
@@Snow-xd4rv I didn't say they weren't doing anything for him. I only said what I would do if I was in that position. I didn't even imply anything about the current owner.
I heard you. Sometimes reading comprehension is hard when you can't see past your own opinion. I agree. This dog has a priority spot near the fire and first fed. Well done boy. Good dog. I can't help thinking about veterans though . . .
It is likely what the owners would like to do, keep him close and safe. My guess is he'll want to head back to guarding his flock and become extremely depressed if he's prevented from doing so.
I have a pyrenees retriever. 99% of the time, he's the sweetest dog you'll ever meet, like a goofy, oversized golden. But the 1% of the time when he's sensed danger (coyotes, foxes, wildcats, intruders), he's jumped into action without hesitation. If I had animals or children in the household that needed looking after, no doubt I'd get a few pyrs or pyr mixes. Amazing dogs. Casper is the goodest boy. Hope he lives a long, happy life.
Casper was doing what his breed was meant to do. Great job! It sounds like there was another livestock guardian dog who stayed with the sheep to mkae sure the coyotes didn't sneak around Casper. What an excellent job as a team. I have had Pyrs and Casper is displaying typical Pyr behavior between protectiing the sheep and being a gentle giant with people... as long as they aren't strangers out to get his sheep!
Exactly! I think I saw that they’re retiring Casper… I could be wrong, but good boy deserves it. I couldn’t imagine he knows how to retire just yet. The owners are awesome; I’m so glad they had more than Casper.
Wierwille recounted to the outlet that he witnessed Casper jump a fence and attack a pack of 11 coyotes, biting their heads and throwing their bodies over his shoulder. The owner is unsure if the animals attacked first or if Casper felt they were threatening his partner, Daisy, who was pregnant with eight puppies. During the incident, Wierwille's five other Great Pyrenees dogs herded the farm's sheep away from the chaos.
A commando went in and took out a batallion. This dog deserves his own plaque of badassery. Definitely I would respect him more than any dogs I've known.
Time to get another dog, maybe two. Retire this one in the house. He stays in the house. RETIRED. He did his job. METAL OF HONOR. PURPLE HEART recipient.
Being the dog that he is, he likely wouldn't be happy staying inside being pampered. But, I agree, knowing the area is populated with an aggressive pack they should get at least one more dog. Daisy stayed with the sheep, kept them herded into one corner of the fenced area. Casper need help.
@@lorelleblackwell8556 My thoughts exactly. I mean, if he's done being a working dog, he'll probably show reluctance to rejoin the sheep, but even then...I dunno, I would take him out with the sheep when he's healed enough, and just see how he acts. If he acts like, "No way I'm going back there," then sure, let him retire. But if he acts like, "Yeah! Back in the saddle again!" then let him do what he does best. He's still a pretty young dog.
@@whartonitec1041 Where'd that come from? The dog in the video is not a Husky. No one is talking about a Husky. No one is talking about a dog fetching - and LGDs don't "fetch" either. A dog doesn't need to fetch to protect livestock.

I once owned a huge Great Pyrenees who was almost 100kgs. I lift weights but his strength was another level. Ripping towels in half like sheets of paper, snapping a tow rope in two and ripping a reinforced burglar proof door off of it's hinges. You better believe these gentle giants are ridiculously strong and will give their lives to protect their family/flock against anything. Casper is a true hero.
1 vs 11 and still survived😭😭 that’s incredible! Imagine how easier it would’ve been if there were 2 more of the breed protecting the sheep. Would’ve been easier but wow this dog looks pretty good with all things considered. I’ve seen more gruesome looking outcomes in just a 1 vs 1 this dog/breed must be amazing in defending itself and fighting off predators
What a champion! I used to live on a farm where we'd get coyotes, mountain lions, raccoons, hawks etc. Hunting our farm animals, but our cats and dogs would always help chase them off. One of our dogs fought off a mountain lion that was targeting me and my brother when we were little and playing outside. He got clawed up something fierce but didn't back down even when the big cat ran for it. Truly man's best friends
Don't feel bad. That dog is a testament to his breed. They are gentle giants, but terribly ferocious if you try to get between them and whatever they're protecting. Pyrenees dogs were bred to fight off WOLVES.
The owner of this dog has two Great Pyrenees dogs. On the night of the attack, one of the dogs, guarded the sheep, while this dog fought the coyotes all by himself. The owner needs several more dogs to guard his flock. There are way too many coyotes for one dog to have to fight on his own. It’s very sad the brave dog killed eight coyotes. But it was just too much work for one dog.
Poor little guy. He's fine his job well. He deserves to live inside now, no more work. Lots of love! New digs for outside. This guy earned everything a good can already in only his first few months. I'm in love. What a great guy.
Oddly enough, if you retired this sweet, brave dog to pet status, he'd probably be unhappy. These dogs are the best guard dogs in the world. This boy would probably become depressed and waste away if he couldn't be outside, doing his job. Get him a backup dog or two, and let him return to his rightful place as head of the guardian brigade. It's his calling, and he would be miserable if he couldn't go back to it. I know. I've had 2 GPS. They absolutely live for their jobs.
@@joanlynch5271 LGD means Livestock Guardian Dog. It is the general term for several breeds that more or less fill the same function. The Great Pyrenees is the most common in the US because the other breeds can be harder to train.
The Great Pyrenees is a guardian dog not a herding dog. They’re different breeds because they perform different duties and have different responsibilities. This beautiful boy did exactly what his breed was created to do. The urge to protect is instinctive. An incredibly courageous effort and at such a young age. This dog deserves an early retirement ❤❤❤
I owned one crosses with a wolf hound but we had to give him up cause we didn't have sheep to herd and he was always bored. He went to a big chunk of land with animals to protect. They are a different breed not your typical dog. I miss the big guy but not all his long hair he shed
i have a great pyrenees and he is a guard dog in training. he notices when things are different at home, last night he got into a barking fit cause he noticed a piece of paper was taped to the door. i also have a herding dog (samoyed) who does watch over the goats too but mostly leads them into the barn at night or away from danger and cleans them. she is very protective over the youngest goat and will step in if the older goats are playing too rough with him
My former in-laws had a pair of Pyrenees to protect their property and chickens, and they once played tug of war with a raccoon that got inside the fence and ripped it in half - they're no joke, but they are also amazingly gentle with people, and especially kids.
My heart aches to see how weak he looks and his wounds look really serious. Get well soon doggy, you were so brave fending off the pack of coyotes. A real hero. I hope his owner gives him lots of TLC and he's up and running soon. I hope there's no infection! 💛🧡 What a brave doggy!
His wounds would've even fatal had he not been found and taken in immediately. He survived, in my opinion, because he IS very young, and will recover very nicely from this heroic act of defense.
I'm so glad to see this followup video showing us his recovery and that he is doing well. This dog is the GOAT, guardian of the flock. Such a good boy.
I was just thinking about this same thing and tearing up. You can see how tired they look and how worried for him they are...people with that much love in their hearts are blessings on this earth
Truly a hero! To see this kind of love and loyalty just brings tears to my eyes. Knowing this it so infuriates me to read how so many people abandon their pets and/or treat them so poorly. I think animals have more compassion and empathy than some humans. ❤
Why on earth would 28 people (as of now) give this story a "thumbs down?" Are they disappointed that the dog survived? The only reason I can think of that these are people who just give a thumbs down to anything this channel produces. I know nothing about this channel or its policies; but people need to get beyond their petty hatreds and resentments and join in some common humanity. The dog in this story showed more courage and strength of character than some of the human "naysayers."

♥️

So, a meat eater is ‘a hero’ for protecting animals bred for meat from other meat eaters by killing 8 individual animals and shall now be rewarded by being given pieces of another animal bred for meat?
How does ANY of that make sense? What do you think will happen to those sheep down the road?

Well, he is 20 months and working dogs dont like retirement. Also for the guy talking about guns - good luck, a dog fight is too chaotic to try and shoot what your dog is fighting. You are better off walking up to the coyote and stabbing it to death.
Look how gentle he is. Honestly deserves to have songs and legends written about him like Gelert.
Like the saying goes, better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war. Be strong enough to be gentle

Well done boy. Good dog.
