Yiruma's River Flows in You, another one of the most requested pieces to be performed on this channel, and another thank you to you all for being here on this pianistic journey. Although this piece is a stark contrast to the intensity and excitement of the 3rd Movement of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata from last week, it is one that can really make you think. Especially with how the piece ends there is one word I feel most accurately describes the work: bittersweet. And although it's a Monday, I hope this piece can bring a pleasant start to your week :)

Tonight is my piano concert and they are coming. I wanted them to come because I'm going to play this song and I want to know that they are important to me. I'll try not to cry but it's so hard ahhhh.. Wish me luck ahahah ! update : I was so stressed when it was my turn to play on the piano, i was shaking and i started to play with so much stress. But then i was so into the song that the stress in me started to disappear a little bit ! i finished the song and i started to cry. People… Last Saturday a good colleague of mine suffered a fatal car accident. Despite rapid first aid by an ambulance, she died on the spot in a head-on accident on an expressway. She was only 22 years old. Had a mega character and the greatest smile there was! R.I.P Jessy!😔😖 How many people still have to lose their lives on the streets just because others are drunk? 😭 Please make this post public‼️
This song reminds me of the bittersweet times in my life. Enjoying great times with people who are no longer here. Past relationships that didn't pan out but great times were still had. And the thought of losing the ones that I love. It just makes me cry big ugly tears every time I hear this song. Thank you for playing it.

I don't understand how it says overcoming depression but i feel on the edge of controlling my tears. I feel my throat is choking. Still I love to listen to this masterpiece.
My dog got his wings a week ago with this beautiful piece playing in the background. He used to always seet at my feet when I was playing this song. Thank you for accompanying us during that event, it meant the world to us.
I've been trying to learn this piano piece for three years, yet it still feels like an insurmountable challenge. The notes seem so distant, so elusive. But when I saw you effortlessly play it, I couldn't help but feel a deep sense of admiration and awe. Each note that flows from your fingertips seems to dance, the music effortlessly pouring out of you. Whether it's the delicate rhythm or the soaring melody, everything comes together so naturally. Your performance isn't just a display of technical skill; it's an expression of emotion, a profound understanding of the music. Every time you press a key, I'm not just hearing the notes, but the feelings and soul you've infused into them. For me, this piece has been a constant struggle-an obstacle I haven't been able to overcome. Yet, watching you play it with such ease, I realize that perhaps it's not just a matter of technique. It's about your love and dedication to the music. The confidence and calm you exude while playing is exactly what I've been striving for during all these years of practice. I understand now that music is not just about mastering technique-it's about expressing the soul and emotions. Your performance moved me deeply, and it made me reflect on myself, inspiring me to push forward. You don't just play the notes; you bring each emotion and story within the music to life, making the listener feel as though they're part of the journey. This goes far beyond technical ability-it's an artistic expression. Your achievement reminds me that no matter how many obstacles we face, it's only by truly understanding music and connecting our hearts to the notes that we can reach such a flawless level. I now believe that with enough dedication, one day I, too, will be able to play this piece as effortlessly as you do-and perhaps even transcend myself to reach new heights in my musical journey.
I've left piano for years and i came back recently and been learning to play it, don't overestimate this piece, it's quite easy compared to what it might seems, the left hand is extremely repetitive and the melody in general is repetitive but the aura that comes with it is so wonderful that it creates a new kind of music by itself.
as a pianist I hate this piece because of hearing it literally everywhere and how easy it is EDIT: lmao the sheer amount of people I've pissed off because I have an opinion is hilarious. First of all, PEOPLE CAN HAVE OPINIONS, if you don't like my opinion I really don't care, cry about it lol. Second, I never claimed to be an oh-so-great pianist, but it doesn't mean I can't have an opinion. I know two friends who are greater pianists than me who agree that this piece is overplayed and they hate it. Even then, that's not a valid reason for me to hate it, but I still have a valid reason, I'm a person, with an opinion, and I am not afraid to express my opinion. One person couldn't come up with a good argument so they went to my content and told me I'm a "grown adult who plays Minecraft" solid argument there, keep it up 😂
My guidance to once who try to learn this song, don't view any tutorials. Just play by your heart. First it'll be hard but after some time of practise it'll be the story of your heart. Trust me.
My sister used to play this on the piano after we played together when we were young, because she knew it reminded me of my favorite book series at the time. Now she’s in high school and anxious all the time, and whenever i hear this song, i always cry. My sister barely even talks to me, and when she does, she usually is just asking me where something is. This song brings back so much nostalgia and memories
Hey, I really hope your relationship with your sister improves, seems like you really miss her. Why don't you say this to her? Even if you say these words and change the anxious all the time to busier these days, I'm sure she'll see the emotion and care in the words and even if everything is not immediately fixed, at least she'll know what's in your heart and things will only get better. Sorry if I misunderstood but I felt the emotion in your words and I hope that void is filled once again in your life.
@@hasanjafri135 Thank you so much, for you kind words and advice. I found the courage earlier today to tell her how I felt and we decided to play together more again. You basically changed my entire relationship with my sister, and I can’t thank you enough. God bless you.
@@_Cragon_ Great to hear it. But you are selling yourself short. You found the courage yourself and where brave enough to make yourself vulnerable to your sister and you can be proud of it. Highschool is a though age you start to have responsibilities for the first time and you have to find out who you are and this might make you oblivious to the people around you. The most important thing is that you guys can keep talking about these things in a relaxed way and most of the time your relationship get's trough it. So hat off to you and keeping finding the courage to discuss things when you feel you need and you will have a great life.
I've seen a lot of people describe a nostalgic feeling, but for me, the song evokes a bitter-sweet feeling more akin to happy memories of those no longer with us. A beautiful song - onions were cut. Thanks for sharing.
When my Mom remarried to this awesome man that I consider my Dad more than my real Father this song was played at the wedding walk in for us and it meant so much to me that every time I hear it this song brings tears to my eyes in happiness, so my plan is to learn this by practicing hard (never played piano) and on my parents wedding anniversary I hope to be able to share this with them. Wish me Luck 🤞🎹
I remember as a young teen, watching a tutorial and teaching myself this song. It was quite easy since I play by ear. I am so grateful for these online videos, because I suck at reading piano notes since I abruptly stopped piano lessons at age 10 due to the SARS outbreak way back
My big sister learned to play this song on the piano when she was like 13. A dozen years later I still lay on her bed and listen to her playing whenever I can. She isn't home often nowadays so when I miss her I listen to this song on yt, it's not the same but after all these years it still makes me feel safe
Yiruma's "River Flows in You" is so beautifully calming 🎹 The melody truly captures the heart and soul 🌊 Such a perfect piece for relaxing and reflection 💖✨
Omg lol I had the same ad!😂 I tried to cover this beautiful song and it would mean the world to me if you took a few minutes of your precious time and listened to it!!🤗❤️

Thank you so much for posting this was my sons favourite song he plays it everyday for our family to enjoy and now he got his wings a few months ago and now I will try to learn this song so someone can lay it and we will all remember my son❤❤❤
Guys the piece really is easier than it seems.. I only have like 5 months of piano experience with one lesson a week. I learned it like 2 months or 3 ago. It just needs practice but it's really easy. Now I can play it without mistakes consistently. Believe in yourselves kings and queens👑
Sicco oh, hell there are! There are billions of words through and into this song. It is literally speaking to you in a literal way! That’s what I call "art"
I finally learned all of this, I spent 11 months on it, almost 11, I was sometimes a little too lazy to learn, but I'm glad that I was able to play this beautiful music.😊
I adore Yiruma for this piece. It brings peace to my soul where my soul could have never rested. The way the fingers dance on the keys is intoxicating.... It pays tribute that I never could to my little brother whom served the United States Army with his mind, body and soul. May he be victorious in battles to come.
I love this song. I listened to it a lot when I was going through loss of a horse that really was my soulmate. She was my world. I always vented to her when I had a bad day and she always comforted me. Now I'm listening to it to bring peace to my soul while I'm seething with anger at my brother for stupid stuff he's doing and going through mourning a friend distancing herself from me for having different opinions and she doesn't want to be "close" friends anymore. Just friends.... she's been one of my best friends for years and it hurts so bad. But this song has always brought me a sense of peace and relaxation ❤
@qiwei6932 yes. It's a saying a lot of people who have horses or dogs use. They say that when they have a horse or dog that has a better connection with them than any other horse or dog has and they feel more connected with them than they do with most people
I know no one will probably ever read this, especially Rousseau, but I just wanted to thank you. I have severe obsessive-compulsive disorder - specifically scrupulously - (made even worse by quarantine) and just found out that I would have to go BACK to intensive therapy (3 HOURS every week day). I was in a really dark place and couldn’t stop crying but this song, while it may have made me cry harder bc it’s so beautiful😉, helped give me hope. I absolutely hate therapy with a passion, but I know I’m not ok and need to change. It’s just really hard tho bc it feels like my brain is splitting in half and arguing with itself all the time. I’m still dreading going back with all my heart, but your music helped me feel that, even though it will be beyond difficult, God will be with me every step of the way. Your music always helps calm me down. (I’ve literally played this song alone on repeat for half an hour already :). So yeah, thank you. To anyone else who has medically diagnosed OCD (not someone who just likes to keep things clean 😉) know that you are not alone and, even though no one on earth can completely understand your thoughts, Jesus is always there for you. I am praying for you every day. Sending so much love and empathy.❤️❤️
Let's see how many likes it gets in 2021 - 2030. One decade can change everything. So here we go. For a new decade. Edit: We're all leaving behind comments for the future generations to know, to remember us, to keep in mind that we were here first. Here's to a new generation. We lived. We loved. We did. We've done everything we wanted, and it might have been more than we thought it would be. We were here.
Many say this piece is overrated But they’re missing the point entirely A simple piano song has touched so many souls in an impactful way Some feel nostalgic Some feel the sadness of loss Some feel the joy of new beginnings Some feel as though they are transported to a different world entirely It isn’t about how often you hear it, but what you feel when you hear it
The river truly flows in me, I hear this piece and another river starts to form from my tears as if I've been touched by an angel through the graceful sound of the piano. A true Heavenly feeling.
I have been practising piano for 8 months, but without any music lessons. I just play by ear. Yesterday I thought about trying to learn this piece and after one hour I could do it completely. Now I came here to check out if the notes I played were right and I'm glad to see that every note is in the right place. I'm happy to know that music is my passion. Thank you God for motivating me to play music❤
I love Rousseau giving a description of each piece he plays, the style, the composer, the context. Adds to the experience tenfold. This is real musicianship.
Sometimes a song comes a long and absolutely speaks to your heart and soul. This song speaks to me on that level. I can play a simplified version of it (working towards the full version one day) and my fingers just glide across the keyboard. It’s truly a healing experience.
i used to play this song but now i forgot how to since i havent been playing piano for so long. i really want to be able to play this wonderful piece again. this song could make me cry of how beautiful it is
This causes emotional pain. I don't know why. Maybe I need friends? I don't know. Do I need to go outside? I don't know.... All I remember is the day that my mom died. All there is I'm my mind. Was this song.
@@talls.j We all have our losses, and the only this we can do is move forward. Suacide is only going to keep your mind on your brother in heaven. Getting over it will be better. I'm not good at explaining things, go see a therapist if you need to.
I’m so sorry dude. That must have been really painful. Haven’t really lose anyone in my life yet but I know it had to happened someday and I’ll be crying for weeks :( So I hope you’re doing okay! Keep moving on and fighting, I’ll be there for you!
I remember my third grade teacher would always play this song in the mornings claiming that “college music makes you smarter and a better student”. Not sure how much I believe that but even still, this song holds a very special place in my heart.
As a young pianist I say that this piece is incredible because everything is always repeating, but every repeat is different It’s amazing because everyone hear and understand it in different ways But we all know what Yiruma meant is indescribable by words ‘Cause why we need words if we have music ❤
apparently this is one of the most popular modern piano pieces ever and I somehow just haven’t heard it my whole life, tf? learn something new every day ig. Very pretty
The only reason I would love to learn how to play the piano is because of songs like this one. Imagine, playing the song while releasing all the emotions and feelings you might have. Giving it your everything. Powerful if you are able to do so. Who knows, one day..
Hearing this song, River Flows in You, brings back high school, holding my child for the first time, my first kiss, learning to ride a bike, my first touchdown pass, the first time I saw the Grand Canyon, my first breakup, the death of my grandparents, walking through their cemetery, my child's first steps, the first time I saw the ocean, the first time I saw the Roman forum. This song is a timeless memory, a memory of all memories. This is the modern Pachelbel's Canon. When I got married I hadn't heard this song, but looking back over my life, that would have been the most appropriate time for this song. Actually, any special moment in your life is the perfect time for this song. I want it someday at my funeral right after Ave Maria., River Flows in You is that good.
Thank for expressing my feelings 🥺🥺, but thank god i play piano from over 4 years and i know how to play this song, just one more note, if you dont have friends, music will be equal to a thousand friends, and believe me i am telling you this from a personal experience especially this song it will give you the boost to continue your life even with the most hard mental problem to all, and again thank you for this masterpiece
One of the most peaceful and heartbreaking contemporary pieces I have ever heard. This piece is so romantic that you can imagine such things as falling in love or marriage. But the ending made me amazed. A very interesting aspect of this piece. Great playing!
Idk who you are but im just a random person on the internet telling don't take your loved ones for granted you all may get into fights but I lost my grandmother to cancer in February... I haven't grieved that much, but some days like this I lay alone depressed and sad about all the times I never said, "I love you." Tell your parents and family you love them. They won't be around forever 😭😭
Landon Keighin wth does that have to do with the comment you just want attention dude why don't you just talk to your parents about it then because why do you want random people trying to make you feel better that's really low dude.
This song just makes me feel like I'm forgetting something... something important. But yet it feels like I'm being told to move on. That the hard times have already passed, and now I must push forward. Like a girls warmth on a warm breezy day suddenly disappearing. Its so weird but yet, it's also amazing.
《VeSinc》 It makes me very happy to know that I’m not the only one who feels like this because of music. Music is such a powerful thing, my friend. I wish you the best
this happened to me before I felt like something was missing at my life. but when I made a relationship with Jesus everything feels better now. You guys can try making a relationship with Jesus because maybe he's probably the one that's missing in your life :) (hope it helps :D)
ROSSDABOSS he just put leds to the keys and than they glow and the effects is just a after effects plugin. its pretty easy to make it yourself but it looks good though :D
This reminds me of my birth parents I remember them playing this for me before I was put for adoption this the only memory I have of them I can’t even remember what they looked like.
What a wonderful composition, real art! When I listen to it, all my feelings awaken, both happiness and sadness, and everything ever beautiful, and everything less beautiful. People, understand, life is one, appreciate every moment you have!
I like how people ask, “Anyone in 2019 listening to this??” Like, dude I listen to this about 10 times a day for the last 3 years, OF COURSE IM HERE IN 2019!! Haha, love your work Rousseau!!
During my first year of college, I lived in a dorm with single piano in an isolated room. Out of every single bed in the dorm, mine was the closest to the piano. Every night when I try to go to sleep, I could hear the quiet playing of music through the walls. Most were random songs I couldn't recognize. However, the most played song was this one. A song playing quietly in the background as I drift away. Well it was actually the second most popular. The first was John Legend's All of me, but I just ignored that one.
I know! Ive been playing piano ever since i can remember, about 11 or 12 years I think. Im 16 and been playing since about 3 or 4, I picked it up thanks to my father playing it often! I only play by ear though so Its kinda more time consuming than other hobbies I have lol...
It is so sad, yet at the same time, so hopeful. What a beautiful piece. It reminds me of when you feel something will never be the same again, but there is still a drop of aspiration.
I've been learning piano for 5 months and can play this is song, I love it, is sad but calm, If you are trying to learn any piece heres a reminder to not give up and keep going 😊

Incredible 🥺🥺
I don’t care how overplayed this song is, it’s still a masterpiece.
Yup, totally agree
as a pianist I hate this piece because of hearing it literally everywhere and how easy it is
EDIT: lmao the sheer amount of people I've pissed off because I have an opinion is hilarious.

Good on you. Its not easy to make yourself vulnerable like that. I guess that's the power of music!

@@izzyherod6303I’m sorry did I read that wrong or is your soulmate a horse??? Correct me if I’m wrong

Hope you feel better! 🤞
