Thank you so much for the video. Sunrise casettes are build well but one needs the right comptability with the rest of the drive system. I have a Merida eONE 160 with Shimano Steps E7000 which originally came with 10 speed 11-42 casette. I want to move to 11 speed Di2 and have a 11-46 cassette. I chose Sunrise CSMX8 with 11-46 with KMC chain for Ebikes. Unfortunately, it always skipped a gear and sometime it would shift back. I had such a bad experience with this Sunrise casette. After a year or so, I bought Wheeltop EDS derailleur and configured it to run 11 speed and it didn't have an issue. So, Shimano Di2 didn't do the trick but a Wheeltop EDS provides such a smooth shifting when I do climbs with my eMTB
Thanks for sharing your experience. You are right. Sometimes different manufacturers have different specification tolerance, which could result in other components not working well with one another. Love the detail you shared.
I have ran a 11/40 XT cassette on my Ultegra Di2 11 speed bike, and it worked just fine. A longer chain is needed of course going from 11/34 to 11/40. The Di2 didnt notice at all as far as shifting. I would only use the 11/40 for certain extremely steep local rides.
Great review. And great point about shifting under load with these non-Shimano made cassettes. I found it similar under load: not great. I'll be sticking with Shimano cassettes for now.
Hypergliude was upgraded to hypergliude plus for 12 speed. Hypergliude aids performance while downshifting to easier gear and Hypergliude plus aids performance in both up and downshifting
Great information. HyperGlide is more than just a trademark. I ride both SRAM and Shimano electronic group sets. Shimano shifts better or smoother. I’ve purchased a zitto cassette for my SRAM bike I’m gonna test it when it arrives. My concerns are same as yours and worry it may wear the flat top chain faster.
Great review! Lots of good information. Im a recreational cyclist but I value quick accurate shifting, but also am a weight weenie. 100 grams is 100 grams, but quick quiet shifting like with my Ultegra Di2 is really nice and Id hate to mess with it. Climbing puts a heck of a load on cassette and chain/shifting.....a wonky cassette wouldnt be the thing. I would guess Sunshine has tested and tried and tested and tried, but cant equal Shimano shifting. I recently replaced the tubes in both wheels, and the tube in the spares kit with TPU tubes, losing 300 grams altogether for about 17.00. Will the tubes hold up? We shall see, lots of different reviews on them. So far so good. Lighter brake rotors might get tried next.
Your experience is similar to mine with the lightweight SRACE cassette (11-32). If I could get it to shift well in the small gears, it would not shift well on the larger gears, either shifting UP or DOWN. Same if I adjusted it to shift well on the larger gears, it would not shift well on the smaller gears. Drove me nuts. I went back to the heavier Shimano cassette and am much happier. I was enticed by the super lightweight of the SRACE cassette but realistically, the rotating mass at the center of the wheel is not very significant. Weight saved on lighter or tubes, particularly the use of very light weight TPU tubes. Much better to save 100 grams of rotating mass at the extreme edge as far from the center of the rotating mass and a cheaper solution with much less aggravation. Constant bad shifting will drive most weight weenies crazy
They are likely to be the same product but just label different brand. I managed to get the shifting to an acceptable level but it is far from SRAM or Shimano could offer. I I may still buy it again but I would go for a 11-34 instead.
Great video. I have used a few of these aliexpress cassetes on both 11-speed Shimano and 12 Speed Sram AXS. They work okay but not as great as the Shimano and SRAM cassettes. These cassetes also does not last long, so the shifting gets worst as you use them. 105 and Rival cassetes are very good options if you are not using your bikes in competitions.
The new 12 speed Shimano Cassettes also supports the old HG hubs. However if you’re hub got the new pattern. It will only fit the new 12 speed cassettes.
I expect they wont last as long as full steel cassettes but only 4000Km seems very short. After a year of riding, my one is still very fine which have not significant shifting issue. Maybe the riding condition is different?
I‘d propose Shimano Ultegra or Dura-Ace cassette 12s (New/NOS) with KMC chain and SRAM AXS. I do this for all my bikes. A fraction of the price and works faultless.
The Sunshine is not perfect, but it is good enough in most cases (except I won't use it for racing or high-demand riding). The Ultegra cassette would be a fair bit more expensive, and the 105 would be too heavy. So it is a close call and deepened on your preference.
Thanks for pointing that out. TBH, I don’t feel I used it enough to make detailed statements about the Durability. As I mentioned in the video, the steel sprockets would be fine and the aluminium sprockets would last ok but I don’t expect very good longevity of this cassette.
That’s a part of my plan to remove weight from the initial build. I have done about 350g so far and I think I can get another 150g down to make it a sub 7kg bike.
The weight saving has to be over the entire bike, it is not a cheap way to go. I think buying an ultra light bike from the get go stings, but its a better way to go if you really want light.

Great video and full of info that I really looking for.
Very in depth video, congratulations 👏🎊
Thank you! 😃
Great video Mate
Is it worth upgrading a 105 cassette to Ultegra if I'm replacing it?
If you are doing 12 speed, I would because of the hyperglide plus. Otherwise 105 is good enough in most cases.
Legend.
Only running 11 speed at the moment
That case I would keep running 105 11 speed.
Hypergliude was upgraded to hypergliude plus for 12 speed. Hypergliude aids performance while downshifting to easier gear and Hypergliude plus aids performance in both up and downshifting
Hyperglide plus only available one Ultegra and Dura-Ace.
@@cycleandexplore12 speed deore up to XTR have it as well for mtb

I am glad you like the video. I have some videos about TPU tubes, you can check it out in my channel.

The way this audio is mixed is: bgm=right vocals=left. I had just my right headphone in and only heard ukulele.
I didn’t realise that until you pointed it out. Thanks

I think 105 or rival are still ok in some competitive cycling. Of course Dura-Ace and Red would be the best.
Disc brake bikes are heavy live with it
Haha, it does not means I don't want my disc brake bike to be light😆
Have used it for 6 months, not any issue, probably not as smooth as legit shimano one, but C/P value is high enough to try.
I think the main selling point is backward compatibility on HG hubs
The new 12 speed Shimano Cassettes also supports the old HG hubs. However if you’re hub got the new pattern. It will only fit the new 12 speed cassettes.
i race on sunshine. good value
Good value if you can accept the imperfection in the shifting.
i bought like this from aliexpress, and just after 6months The gear has a problem, it wears out in a short time (+-4000km)
I expect they wont last as long as full steel cassettes but only 4000Km seems very short. After a year of riding, my one is still very fine which have not significant shifting issue. Maybe the riding condition is different?

@@cycleandexplore for road still 2x. Gravel 1x & chain guide. Cheers 🙌🏽
show us your s13
Haha, I no longer have a S13. Now I drive my wife's SUV 😂
I've bought sunshine cassette 9s and it was very noisy and my next choice was shimano.
Try to adjust the index. I found it ok when the index is correctly tuned.
I can’t see why you would sacrifice good shifting for 100g of weight.

Reference to an s13 wow i didn't think you were that old
S13 was one of my best car in the university days.
At the beginning you did not mention durability therefore I stopped whatching it.
Thanks for pointing that out. TBH, I don’t feel I used it enough to make detailed statements about the Durability. As I mentioned in the video, the steel sprockets would be fine and the aluminium sprockets would last ok but I don’t expect very good longevity of this cassette.
blud uses davinchi resolve 💀
Looks the same, not really the same, made in China.
You get want you paid for. IT doesn't cost much but it may be just why it does not perform as good as Shimano.
Realistically your not gona notice .1kg of a difference in weight saved
0.1kg from different things adds up
That’s a part of my plan to remove weight from the initial build. I have done about 350g so far and I think I can get another 150g down to make it a sub 7kg bike.

Simple answer .. No!
