....I remember when I was in Otigheim back in the 1970s, they had manned railway crossings, and yes, the street was close for some time before the train passed through.
Yes near Calcutta we had the manual type crossing where the attendant had to turn a wheel manually to lift and down the gate.

Sometimes there is a single malfunction reported. When this occurs they likely have to follow these type of procedures until a qualified inspector confirms all is OK.

i am getting confused here. why is there a barrier across the road even through the level crossing is working .
It wasn't working so that's why they had to do that, it turned on after but if your not U.K. Then why does it matter to you

Lmao in Germany trains go like 330 kmh and I'm stuck here in Queensland Australia with trains that go 80km/h I'm craving to go on the ice 3 or any spoorwegen train...they are so beautiful. Like the icmm and virm
..I live in the States and feel the same. Outside of the Washington DC to Boston Corridor, and In Michigan, the speed limit for passenger trains is restricted to 79 MPH and few even get up to that speed.
One of the plans I have when I make it to Europe is to ride the Eurostar (under the Channel), The ICE, The Gotthard Line through the Alps, and of course, the TGV from Paris to Marseilles.

I don't get it either. The crossing seems to work fine.
Probably, they put that lines there, if the crossing had a failure in the nearer (or further) past and "they" (the Deutsche Bahn) are afraid that could happen again so the people with the lines are sent there to secure the crossing, even if this failure was a unique incident. And this "replacement securing" can last for a long, long time until it is verified that the crossing is working reliable or someone has fixed the... how to name... "problem".

I saw a similar clip on UA-cam. In that situation (also in Germany) Deutsche Bahn had to put the extra lines because it was a dangerous crossing and a couple accidents had happened there in the past. DB was planning on putting dual barriers on either side to completely close the crossing when active and make it safer (for stupid people that try to cross single sided barriers by zig-zagging trough..). A judge had ruled that it was indeed an unsafe crossing and DB came up with the solution of putting a couple of guys there with these kind of lines until the crossing was modernised.. 3 shifts of 3 guys 24/7. Deutsche gründlichkeit :-) At least nothing happened afterwards.....

That signal came on way to early, and those orange suit men put that stupid chain up way to early.
Im wondering if there was technical issues with the crossing which may have caused it to not activate, and if the crossing had a fixed activation point, and the train was going slower than line speed, that would explain the longer waiting time
alternativly, they may have determined that the crossing required barriers/gates/whatever you want to call them, on both sides of the road to stop vehicles going around them, and so until they could get the crossing upgraded, they had to do this
either way, crossings in europe quite often have longer wait times than crossings in the US
in the country where i live, crossings which have barriers/gates on both sides of the road (often refered to as "full barrier" crossings) have wait times of up to 5 minuites, sometimes more (and the newer crossings often have obsticle detection, the system verifies that the crossing is clear before allowing the train to pass)
and crossings which only have barries on one side of the road (often reffered to as "half barrier" crossings) have wait times of at minimum 27 seconds (that is the legally required minimum for that type of crossing where i live), but in some cases it may take longer for the train to reach the crossing (i would imagiane it is rare for it to be over 1 minuite though)

There was a problem where the gate went down to far so sometimes they have to block it off by themselves to stop traffic

Why did the workmen put tapes across the road when there were barriers?
The error reporting system is probably broken. So no one knows whether the level crossing is working as it should. As a safety measure, it is therefore also blocked if it is a busy road to prevent an accident from happening. On roads with less traffic, it is sufficient if the train stops beforehand, hoots and then drives over it quickly. I hope I was able to answer your question.
