There is simply no explanation of how i connect with her playing. It is so alive it is impossible to explain in words. The best I can do is say that it is as if all the pianist before her played in the dark , and This angel of beauty sat down and turned on the lights.
God that third movement, especially on the heels of the first two... Ludwig! Who hurt you?! Pure passion! Pure vigor! A ripping and tearing... A TANTRUM!!! God! This man speaks through the piano with masterful eloquence. I believe we hear exactly what he wanted to say... wow! WHAT A PERFORMANCE!!!! BRAVO!!!
What can I say...it's life changing. I'm playing about 2 or 3 hours a day. Learning something every day, perfecting my skills. And to improve even more, this helps me a lot with depression. I will never stop playing the piano
I love how clear , expressive and detailed sounds this section that starts at 12:16 . Especially the bass melody in this interpretation is astonishing!
Absolutely un-fucking-real. Incredible range of power and emotion while maintaining crystal clarity. Her interpretations move you to your very core. Each little choice in dynamics comes through beautifully and is clearly thought through. Absolute masterclass. I've always found classical musicians too reserved, you can almost hear them restraining themselves in their music to appear more "sophisticated." Fuck that...give me that emotion...make me feel those notes reverberate in my soul. THIS is what Beethoven should sound like...you should feel the complete range of human emotion in full capacity while listening to Beethoven. Don't let the ego and "sophistication" get in the way of the music. Lisitsa is just getting better. Stunning.
I don't have words. Beethoven is my favorite musician of all time. As someone who has had a lot of physical and emotional pain too i feel his sense of pain but hope. So much hope. More pain then i hope i never know.
Quote from Edmund Morris: Beethoven The Universal Composer: "Instead of beginning with...the announcement of key and first theme it emerged from silence almost inaudibly at first, as if Beethoven was testing the limits of his once phenomenal hearing. In Italian, he directed that both pedals of the piano be held down non stop, rarifying the sonority yet lengthening the reverberation...Quiet undulations of C sharp minor succeeded one another, their overtones mixing and dissolving. Far beneath them, empty octaves moved with extreme slowness, while the undulations hardly changed level. The effect was of an almost immobile pool of harmony: dark water before moonrise. When a theme did float in above it was at first more monotonal than melodic. The note G sharp chimed softly and repeatedly. Every now and again a minor ninth, one of the most painful discords in music , shivered the surface of the pool until the undulations smoothed it out. For more than six minutes this hypnotic balance of action and inaction persisted centering on the paradox of a climax with no increase in volume: the music simply evaporated into a sort of spiralling mist that fell without condensing. It was the sound of Chopin, specifically, his nocturne in the same key, right down to the minor ninths, conceived almost ten years before Chopin was born. It was even the sound of Debussy, a hundred years off, in its washes of pure colour and separation of register. Yet the most extraordinary thing about this first movement of Beethoven's Sonata Quasi Una Fantasia ... was that it was cast in regular sonata form. Not now, nor ever could he be called a Romantic. His fantasy was always quasi, his structure always rational." Genius such as this is unfathomable.
My favorite composer and this sonata the reason why I staryed playing the piano. I remember the day I finished learning this sonata I played it all night long and only realized it was morning when I heard the birds chirping. Moonlight sonata is and will always be the most beautiful and precious piece of music for me.
As a writer and devotee of Beethoven, I truly appreciate your use of language and knowledge of music. You ignited dying embers within the darkest areas of my heart.
This is the cleanest performance of the presto I have ever heard. And thrilling. Full of propulsive, gruff energy. The whole thing is magnificent. A preternatural pianist walks amongst us.
I want to thank God because I'm in this World at the same time with VALENTINA LISITSA, enjoying her talent and her beauty!!! So... Thanks God! Now I'm ready to go!
Wow 3rd part is really more powerful than 10 years ago version. I’m touched by the more intense power and maturity. Your power and clarity is really great for Beethoven great pieces.
What piano playing, fascinating! Mosfilm Studios also add their own sound, piano is just right, nothing sticks out, or is missing, room sounds great. Excellent, impressive job, thank you for adding to this much needed dimension of life.
The third movement is amazing AS USUAL but the surprise in this video is the first movement !! It's absolutely magnificent. It's as slow as it should be unlike in all the other videos of Valentina. Chapeau and respect our queen 👑
Сколько не слушаю Лунную сонату, всегда звучит просто бесподобно. Низкий поклон за ваше творчество, и возможность лицезреть перед экраном на эти произведения.
This rendition has a time a lttle slower than before, it makes the first movement sound deeper, majestic and gives me a feeling of strange lonelyness. I Love it, even when moves my soul to sadness, it's now my funeral march.
There is so much feeling and compassion through every note you play Miss Lisitsa. It is one of my life regrets that I haven't seen you in concert. Never stop playing!
This execution of the third movement is so much better than your last official one, which was technically impeccable but lacked the severe contrasts that give this movement fire. It only took three seconds of that opening to immediately hear how much you've improved. This one is not only technically impeccable but it really lives, has a soul, has your own personal expression in it. And it sounds utterly magnificent, Miss Lisitsa!
Your third movement is one of the best I’ve ever heard. All of the drama that Beethoven directed, the clarity and the passion and the technique made for a formidable performance. Bravo!

Cant wait!! also interested in the tempo she will play it at. It was the first movement of this Sonata that started my piano journey, such a wonderful sound that is incredible on the piano. It took awhile but now I can play the first movement and do so quite often. Great Music! Love Valentina's interpretations!
I love how each mvt, you really set a tone and mood for it. I'm so glad you released a "new version" of this piece. I know when I revisit some old pieces new ideas emerge.
I very regularly put on your recital of mvt 3 from 10 years ago, and now I see this; all three movements, played together, refined and so emotive. I'm a lowly guitar player so I don't know crap about pianists or how technically better you are than anyone, but you are truly an incredible musician to watch. Thank you for providing me with so much comfort and joy over the years!
The recording 10 years ago was of all 3 moments, but for some reason it was uploaded 4 times, as the 1st movement, the 2nd movement, the 3rd movement, and all 3, also very few have the technical ability to play so accurately at such a fast tempo, although I'm sure you would've worked that out anyway
Val, loved this recital. Speed just right - slow first movement, even tempo-ed second movement, then off to the races in the third. As a classical guitarist I can play the first two movements on the piano. You can imagine. I began trying to learn the third movement, but my lack of technique showed VERY quickly. I was a bit like the girl in Immortal Beloved who annoyed Beethoven when she tried to play it. This was just a great recital.

She feels it
You are right, she is so “ passionata “

Сеучно, я играя бустрее. Бетховен тоже хотел эту вещь слышать живее. Как и к Элизе.. А тут спать хочу
If Beethoven was alive at this point, he would say: WOW, finally someone did it. The third is breathtaking. Congratulations.
Her interpretation of the third movement, regardless of which recording, seems to reign supreme by my ears.
sorry to break it to you but Beethoven’s 3rd movement of the “moonlight” sonata is not so hard that only one pianist has completed it
