well you win some and you lose some. Today, I tell the story of my recent copart purchase and the gamble of it purchase it truly was.

Teej similar situation happened to me too. Bought a 370z sight unseen, it turned out to be salvaged with horrible repairs and things falling apart in the motor and body. Complete 360 from what the seller had as the pics. The amount I'll need to put in to fix it could've bought me a new clean title one. Unfortunately sometimes in life you take the L and as you say "Keep moving forward"

I bought a 94 rx7 sight unseen… i knew it was most likely going need a rebuild… what I didn’t know?? The HkS single turbo kit was done for too….
I ended up spending a lot on it and going too crazy…. I loved that car and wouldn’t have done it differently ….
It hurt tho…
@robertfarmer6316 im in university and have 0 money, traded my mini cooper s and what cash i had ontop for a corrado vr6, big risk but the thing had a fresh respray, ran great when i got it and had good service... 2 months after i bought it the head gasket blew only to find out the last owner filled her up with gasket sealer for the sale. I worked my ass off last summer and every penny i made went into rebuilding it. I did it all in my university house, i borrowed an engine hoist as it needed new timing chains and a clutch too and got it done in about 3 months! Now ive just owned her for over a year and ive done 8000 miles and i drive her everyday. Taught me everything i know about cars very quickly.

Tough pill to swallow. We all know you’ll make it a nice car again. Keep it up! Also, seeing the 2015 footage of you and Calvin in your parent’s garage brought me back. I remember those days.
No need for a new engine, Bore the block 86.5mm from the factory 86mm with some forged pistons, chances are crankshaft and bearings are in tact, if they are then new bearings and throw some forged rods to go with the pistons.
the signs of touching on the cylinder head dont make it bad either, what you want to focus or look for is bent valves, inspect the valve seats to see that they're in tact and not chipped as it could be debris that got in there or piece of a plug etc. Lastly the cylinder head can be decked just for peace of mind, its a cast iron black those don't warp very easily so you may not need any other machining done but seeing it's getting bored over it can be done at the same shop, just a skim to clean things up.
You can choose to buy a new engine sure or you can just build this one and call it a day... decisions decisions. its up to you

The red supra that got wrecked in a mechanic joyride/test drive in Colorado, that flipped like 5 times and hit a train, sold for $41250 on copart. To be fair it was built, but it also flipped like 5 times…

I feel you Tj , back in October I bought a work van for a very good price . It was all good till the oil pump went out . First it was the oil pump and the crankshaft bearings , than the turbo , than the head gasket, than I had a piston ring failure. 😢

You already have to completely gut it, and get new everything. Just do full bore, and build a purpose built drag Supra. Tube the front end, and throw in a Real Street 2JZ, Haltech Elite 2500 ECU with wiring kit, built trans, turbo, rear end, radials or slicks. Just go balls to the wall with it.
There are clean title automatic Supra’s all over fb marketplace for 25-30k with clean titles. The good news is now you don’t have to worry about going over budget anymore
Hindsight is 20/20 broski. I sold my mkiv supra for $12.5k in 2014. We win some, we lose some. At least you get to make some sweet content for us. Keep up the good work. Can’t wait to see this thing in the end.

Rebuild the engine. Get another block and use parts. Rebuild both blocks. Sell one. That way the current motor stays with the car. And you win your 30 g's back and turn a profit on the second block.

On the bright side you can build a awesome car. My advice being a mk4 Supra owner is to trash that transmission and go with the ZF8hp70 transmission with a build 1000 hp motor.

Send the head to millennium technologies in Wisconsin. Get 6 new pistons and have the block prepped for rebuilding from a good local machine shop.
