    I'm assuming you did the mission at night to show off the mechanics, but in case you don't already know about it, there is a way to avoid night missions without having to worry about travel time to the mission site throwing things off.
    After deploying as normal, you select your dropship just before it reaches the mission sight and tell it to patrol. This makes it circle in place. Pass time until it's day and then tell the dropship to go to the mission. This does have the small risk of leaving the dropship exposed to alien air assets, but as far as I've seen and heard, it's a very small risk.
    That said, it might be better to do extraction missions against cleaners at night. If the cleaners have the same night time vision penalties that you do, running past them in the dark is probably the safest way to get this mission type done.
    The aliens on the other hand, at least in Xenonaughts 1, have vastly superior night vision making night missions a nightmare. You'll often start taking accurate fire beyond even the range of thrown flates in my experience.

    As always Retcon, avid watcher here. I would love to throw in my lot too this series. I know full well that (like Phoenix point) my chances of getting my suggestions in are long and this, low. But who can forget "Demo" heavy with the longest shot outside of a sniper on the same playthrough. And the grenade throw from a virtual mile long with three kills. Only one of which was seen. And "Crashbrodicoot" who's entry to a building saved countless (not really it was one other guy) lives. And who safely never got hit in a series of shots and heavy fire from the enemy. Please consider these again as a long term fan. As always thank you for your continued dedication and punny humor in your amazing work.

    Vehicles are a little more useful in this version of Xenonauts because they only take up 1 slot. With low-level teams, it can be useful to have something to soak up enemy fire, but I've also been reluctant to use vehicles, especially when they took up more than one slot. (IIRC, in the original XCOM, they took up four slots, which was definitely not cost-effective).

    Use "auto resolve" as a second chance on a loss- most likely not going to change things but it could and has(keyboard controls don't seem to work, use mouse to click). I love the loadout profile customization- for timed no recovery of items at end of a mission I have a profile called "Thunderstrike".

    • @RetconRaider
      @RetconRaider  Місяць тому +5

      It seems to work the other way around, too. If autoresolve fails, you can override the result with a manual attempt. :)
      What do you do with your Thunderstrike loadout? Extra-light loads to make room for battlefield salvage?

    • @sertandoom4693
      @sertandoom4693 Місяць тому +1

      @@RetconRaider Whoops that was what I meant. Just got the improved interceptor and still not enough according to autoresolve- went manual and beat a destroyer and a probe.
      Thunderstrike blows them all up or reduces armor so things can be downed more easily- X-COM tactic of mostly explosives/grenades (since it was obvious that the soldiers spent more time on basketball court than firing range). Remove armor and cover with demo charge and deal with. Need smoke or a flashbang they deliver. Smoke has a heck of a lot more effect in Xeno 2 than it did in X-COM applies stun on boom and movement through, accuracy penalty per unit of smoke between attacker and target. Blow things up and move in a hurry. Battlefield salvage sounds like laser pistol loadout.

    • @sertandoom4693
      @sertandoom4693 Місяць тому +1

      @@RetconRaider been doing some thinking, on missions where no auto pickup at end - does that mean downed soldiers don't get a chance to "survive" unless you pick them up?. Maybe a battle medic for these situations. "Is he dead?", "Mostly", "what are the chances he'll make it?", "fifty- fifty but only if we can get him back to medical"

    Might want to remember to equip a sidewinder missile to your interceptor. It will help, likely drop the extended fuel tank for it at first.

    • @RetconRaider
      @RetconRaider  Місяць тому +1

      Yeah, I was debating on whether it was worth doing that or not.
      The missile description made me a little leery, since it mentioned agile targets could dodge it more easily - and we're mostly up against probes and (I assume) scout ships this early on. :)

    • @CowCommando
      @CowCommando Місяць тому +1

      Isn't the Sidewinder more for stripping armor and the guns are for dealing damage, at least early on?

    • @RetconRaider
      @RetconRaider  Місяць тому +1

      @@CowCommando Uncertain! The in-game tutorial for air combat is pretty sparse in the current build, and I haven't played since the original EA launch, so I don't have much working knowledge of it. :)

    • @CowCommando
      @CowCommando Місяць тому +1

      @@RetconRaider Don't the weapons detail how much armor stripping and damage they do? I know your soldier weapons do. Just check the tooltip for each weapon if you remember and have time.
      Edit:
      I think the last time I saw someone play this the chaingun did like 2 maybe 5 damage and zero base armor shred but had a high fire rate and a relatively huge ammo capacity. The starter missile did maybe 25 damage but had something like 10 base armor shred.
      The idea seemed to be that for armored targets (big ships or just heavy fighters) you'd hit them with a missile or two to shred the armor off before rapidly draining their hp with the chaingun, but the chaingun would otherwise do next to no damage against armored targets as its base damage was so low.

    In Xenonauts 1 you could start projects without having all the cash upfront. The money was deducted from your reserves as progress was made, so as long as money kept coming in progress would continue. Is that no longer the case? I just figure you could start a new Skyranger now and finish it with next months paycheck.

    • @RetconRaider

    I am curious. I noted you could sell cleaner agents for 10 grand apiece, and had 9 of them. Does selling them reinforce the Cleaners? Because if not, that might be something to consider. I know you said you didn't want to sell until you didn't have to do so, but it seems a win-win to me. Get money, to get equipment or training needed to keep defeating the enemy. I suspect there is something I don't know that's going on, however.

    • @RetconRaider
      @RetconRaider  Місяць тому +3

      I mainly worry about needing them for something else, though apparently there's a button specifically for selling all items in your storage that aren't used in other projects. So I'll just use that. :)
      Though its also worth noting that the more you sell of a single item, the less each subsequent one is worth. I found that out while selling a half-dozen Cleaner SMGs off-screen. :P

    • @johnstrickler2238
      @johnstrickler2238 Місяць тому +1

      @@RetconRaider Yeah that makes sense. Flood the market, prices drop. I never really thought you'd have more use for Cleaner Agents after the autopsy, but you know...that does kind of make sense. Sometimes you need people to test prototype armor...

    • @CowCommando
      @CowCommando Місяць тому +2

      @@johnstrickler2238It _would_ make sense with the whole flooding the market thing. Unfortunately, last I heard the prices never recover, so you sell stuff and prices come down and stay down forever. This incentivizes you to hoard everything until you absolutely need cash, then sell your entire stock of one specific item to get maximum value for the whole stack. Again, this is just what I heard as to how it worked several months ago, so who knows if this is still accurate.
