      Not free or great. For average income total effective taxation is 65%, 30-40% tax on salary, 20% VAT (sale tax) on most items, excise duties on fuel/energy/alcohol/cigarettes, selling/buying a property (capital tax gains/stamp duty), etc State NHS waiting times in a emergency is 6 hours or more, in case you need a procedure (ex. colonoscopy) appointment can take 3 to 6 months, service quality is also not the best, to say the least...

    I think the point made at the end about each generation feeling less passionate about the issues solved by the previous generation is so true. I mean, who alive in the west today is worried about hoards of marauders raiding their village or whether the crops will grow etc, so many problems of human existence have been solved for so long its easy to forget how important solving those problems was, which means is also easy to forget how bad it would be to let them become problems again.

    • @panjabipandit
      @panjabipandit Рік тому +1

      Eh, the fears just go through metamorphosis. Before it was marauders now it's immigrants. Before it was whether crops will grow now it's what has the government put in the crops to make them grow. Similarly, no one is legitimately afraid of a tiger raiding their house and eating them, but under medical testing, the same part of the brain and same physiological response occurs when someone is reading hate comments online or engaging in responding to it. The stressors affecting our ancestors amygdala are the same as today, just what that looks like has changed up a bit. Perhaps because these problems go though such a evolution we think they're so different and far removed from what our parents, grandparents, etc. went through which makes us treat it as separate and different when the core is in fact the same.

    It really drives me mad how Americans think that we get "free health care" over here in Britain. Its such BS. 99% of us pay for our care, the difference is that over here it automatically gets taken out of our salary each month and goes to the NHS, who provide the service, and the tiny fraction of people that don't contribute, still get access to the treatment and at the same level. We still pay a fortune each month though.
    And does this moron not realise that our doctors get paid a fortune. She can't honestly believe that our doctors work for free.
