  • Scott Glenn chats about 'The Leftovers' with Gold Derby editor Rob Licuria: This script was 'the greatest I have ever worked on.' He discusses “Crazy Whitefella Thinking,” his highlight episode of the third and final season of HBO’s “The Leftovers.” In “The Leftovers,” Glenn plays Kevin Garvey Sr., father to leading man Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux), who in season three travels to the remote Australian outback on the other side of the world. Kevin is on a quest to collect songs and chants from indigenous Aboriginal tribes to stave off (in his mind) the impending apocalypse. He wanders the desert, close to dehydration and death, and desperate to accomplish his mission before the seventh anniversary of the “Sudden Departure,” the cataclysmic event when two percent of the world’s population (140 million people) suddenly and inexplicably disappeared off the face of the Earth.

Excellent discussion. Scott Glenn is such an American Treasure. I know how much The Leftovers have meant to my wife and I so I'm extremely pleased to hear what embodying the role of Kevin Sr. has meant to the man who became him.

This interview should have 100x more views. Well done to all. That Aborigine song is stuck in my head. I pumped it in the car this morning on my way to my kid's preschool. Glenn is a fascinating actor. Thanks for sharing

Scott Glenn is beyond fantastic (so much that, by my insistence, i'd gathered friends to watch clips of his work on "The Leftovers" upon demand while HBO initially ran the series). in fact, the episode "Crazy Whitefella Thinking" clip for my personal group was delayed until one particular friend of mine could join us, as he had embodied his story BY this "story"! thank you for this interview with an outstanding actor in an unforgettable format. as a writer, if ever i trust my novels to on-screen interpretation, i'd beg to have him work in the east coast because he wants to know and understand what he's committing to, even as it "plays" him whole-heartedly. he delves into any range of himself (even if unconsciously unknowing that). when he speaks about not remembering recorded scenes, it's parallel to when i write. astounding, truly, including his last insights regarding rites of passage (reflective on-set and in Scott's commentary on the female transition in "Silence of the Lambs") via Jonathan Demme's direction / involving his child playing with him on-set, unlike other directors who would swat them away. Scott, you gave a "motherfucker" hella-tight performance throughout!

Can we just say that Kevin Garvey Sr masquerades as a blind ninja helping superheroes fight crime?

As an Australian it's hard not to cringe a little at the idea of someone being told to learn about Australia through 'Wake in Fright.' Hardly a welcome representation. Thanks for the interview and getting some of these insights.

Excellent interview. Not like the cheap cliche bollocks of TV. Mr. Glenn is as good as it gets.

When he mentioned JJ Abrams, it struck me that Scott Glenn looks a lot like old Leonard Nimoy
