It’s so refreshing to see and hear two smart, sensitive, strong, highly opinionated and beautiful women in modern media talk about real and daily issues women of all ages face, thank you.

Women are constantly told about "daily issues women of all ages face", which only makes us feel even worse. Everyone faces challenges men and women. Accept it and move it.

@@fs457 I would like to aspire to be beautiful. The world cares about the beauty of a woman and will always care. Better accept it rather than fight it.
Also men and women are different, they will be different and they should be different. They are both equally important, but they are different.
So the fact that they're women and beautiful is absolutely relevant.

I never knew that Co-dependency had more meanings than hanging around someone alot or depending on someone for everything. I am so glad I clicked on this because this describes me to a T. And I never knew that it could actually be defined like this. And then her giving advice on how to handle it, it has really opened up my mind to how I'm acting and how it benefits me more than others. Because I am typically a big people person. Gosh this makes me feel better!

Dude! Scheduling a therapist next week. She described me damn near to a tee. I mean I have broken out of it a bit over the past decade (really shot into it after my mom died and I started to care less about people's feelings) but still. Whoa.

It really fucked with my head.
I know myself for being independent and doing everything for myself, but also ALWAYS offerring help or solutions for others.
I never care if people like me or not but im always happy to leave a good first impression.
So am I just being a good friend or am I actually just co-dependent? Shit. I need to realise things about myself now.

@@Sunny99926 One of the way I took to better know myself, was to honestly question my motivations for my actions. It sounds simple but I discovered layers of bullshit I was telling myself. Ideas I was sold on as a kid mostly, but also behaviors I picked up from others thinking it was doing ''the right thing''. Very important to take yourself with love on that journey, even if it's not always a given. I had to talk to myself, I order to accept things the way they are as a reality, be in the moment, not judgemental. You have to do all this in writing so you always know where you are in the process, and I discover that the chances I lie to myself are very low if I make the effort to write it down. I wish you courage on your path. :)

@@likearollingstone007 that's very kind! Thank you for the advice! Lately I've realized that I'm not responsible for other people's lives and I shouldn't carry their problems and break my back.

My mom went to a codependency course and it saved our relationship. I was in college at the time and just thought my mom was a helicopter and annoying but still loving. Whenever I came home , I noticed the changes she made. We could talk openly using the vocabulary of codependency. The free course was hosted by a local church but wasn't religious. It's great to hear more people talking about codependency AND free resources.

I'll go even further, since this asshole pancakce wasn'T there at all during the whole semester 2011, why ot also not be there during the first repetition....... such that would'Ve missed ocmpletel and probably sat next to someone else and I would've missed out on this shit story alltgether..... then things would'Ve turned out completely different, because truth is I played the whole semester, I played in the concert and that asshole person merely showed up at the after party ognoring me............. and I politely after sitting by the people I newly net at the end to check out whats up and that person just went away........
so probably we would've never met, or just once at distance and this in reality never established ocntact at all, and then I would'Ve not tlaked to that shit person, and then would'Ve had different ideas and probably oriented differently and orobably went into medicine or brain research or some shit and met a NORMAL girl who would've been good for me and good to me without being insane in her head...... and the dynamic would'Ve been normal like with enjoying to simpl walk around and walking along the river, you see I turn around in my thinking and ideas....... .and that is absolutely okay....... becaue that'S the kind of stuffI liked to do instead of going insane on massive trips and hotel s and consulting and business meetings and buisiness onctacts and relationships and business ties and shit............ you already see what they actually did to me
THEY FucKING TREATED ME LIKE A BuSINESS CARD LIKE A BUSINESS CONTACT........ and that'S how I felt also

Excellent points Whitney. Codependency is rooted in enabling the bad behaviours of others. We are the "helpers," the advice givers, the "my love will change him/make him better," we are the people who stop for wounded animals and we have people in our lives because we pity them.
Once you recognize these behaviours in yourself, you can begin to heal and work on bettering yourself. If you cannot love who you are, there is no way you can have a healthy and successful relationship with anyone else.
    Shout out to CoDA!!!!!

I am 38 years old and SO did not connect my dating guys where I settled to my worries about getting older and not having kids. WOWZA. That was a big moment for me, thanks ladies! (Also did not realize until I've heard Whitney speak about it that I am co-dependent and that has been so great for me to realize.)

The same thing happened to me when I decided I'm going to adopt, about easing up off the self pressure over starting a family. I started my education late, I'm going for a PhD, and I have depression/anxiety, so it's going to be a long road. It made me ease up when I realized this was a very viable option for me.

Thank you so much for sharing this conversation with us. I keep talking with other people about this, how women wait for perfection and showing what they've already accomplished, while men can get ahead on potential. We need to dare take those steps forward too, an I will be taking my steps that I've been holding back on for months now, that I knew I needed and wanted to do but I haven't done yet because of this inherent fear.
    Thank you so much.

I saw a few comments about putting the person you are interviewing in the thumbnail and I just wanted to say thanks for doing that! It grabs your attention before you even decide to watch it.

You have to get the book "Codependency No More" (By Melodie (sorry forgot last name)- it is a life changing book- really discusses why we have these tendencies and how to create boundaries.

    • @j.elliott4310

Codependency is rooted in your childhood. It is often from the relationship that you had/have with a narcissistic parent. As a child, you probably were not validated (being told that who you are is ok). You probably were not allowed to express your emotions. Being a codependent person is dangerous because we keep people around us who are toxic in the hope that "we can fix them."
