It is a pity that Orient as a Japanese watch brand stands in the shadow of Seiko and Citizen today. They make great and very underrated watches. My dad has two vintage Orient Multi-Year Calendars. Beautiful watches. Fun fact: Orient watches in the 80's were a sign of success and wealth in many Eastern European countries and everyone wanted one.
I own a Mako II Pepsi, and the watch is an absolute tank for an affordable mechanical. I've had it for three years, and it's been subjected to constant shocks and frequent wide temperature swings on a daily basis. I'm always lifting and pushing heavy items at work, and I'm constantly in and out of a freezer throughout the work day. The watch has withstood this abuse staying within its timing tolerance (+15 sec at most, amazing!), and it has also showed no signs of compromised water resistance. As most owners who like to switch up straps and bracelets, I eventually did replace the bracelet for an aftermarket one with solid end-links and a more heavy-duty clasp with six adjustment positions. The original bracelet was still decent for an entry-level watch. In summary, my Mako II was well worth the $130 I bought the watch for and its overall robustness and timing competes with watches that cost thousands more.
Mako diver (Kamasu 2) in gray is my favorite, I wear it every other day. My dad still has the Orient perpetual calendar from the 80s somewhere, he was wearing it for many years. He also gifted an Orient 3 star to my grandfather for his birthday once. When my grandfather passed away, the 3 star passed on to me, I loved it. Just recently I gifted the 3 star to my godson. The family tradition lives on!
I wanted to buy a Made in Japan watch which was good and affordable. Standing in BIC Camera I did a Google search and came across and bought a Bambino V2 and that is how my affair with Orient began ❤❤❤
Thank you for this wonderful video. I have a five watch collection and three are Orient models (Kano, Mako II, Bambino). My favorite brand hands and wrists down!
Hello my friend! Do you know that Orient has unique models for the brazilian market? Orient is sort of a "national brand" in Brazil. We have a lot of connection with Japan as we are the coutry with more japanese outside of japan. In the 70s Orient was responsible for providing the Brazilian workers with good quality watches. At that time Brazil was the fastest growing country in the world and the industry workers needed to get to work in time. Orient still producing watch cases in Brazil and still have unique models for the country. We could do a video about it. What you say?
Thanks for great video! I could enjoy many great orient watches thanks to your channel. I hope one day I could visit that store and look at Orient models with my own eyes. Love from Korea.
Nice video! I have a blue dial orient ray, and the way it shimmers is just beautiful. It's been 10 years and the watch is still going strong and just as pretty as the day I first put it on my wrist.
Orient is a brand that does not need to be ashamed of its work. It is perhaps the only watch manufacturer that can produce quality mechanical watches starting at a price somewhere around $140. I personally own their Kamasu Watch and have nothing to complain about. If some accident happens and I break it, I won't be sad about losing a lot of money, but I will be sad about losing a good watch that I liked...
people talking about their grail pieces, and mention audemars piguet, Rolex and others as their "final watch". for me, my grail watch to get is the 70th anniversary avant-garde skeleton watch. its just perfect in every way, and would be my special piece, that I would wear with my suit. my every day work horse is the Orient Star Retrograde DE00002B. thank you for this very great video :D
I adore the 1964 star diver. An both star moon phrase watches. That 1964 diver is the 2nd edition. I just dont have the money to buy either model. An flippers are selling the watches for double or triple their original worth...... I do own the orient star heritage & an the star diver pepsi bezel.... Love both watches..
Great Video, Thank you, I have to say that that I am a big fan of Orient Watches, 1989 I bought my first Orient Chronograph Gold Plated Watch. Today I own mostly Orient Diver Watches, love every single one. I also promote on most Watch forums like here on UA-cam channels that Orient Watches are better than Seiko Watches in many details especially when it comes to price, I often write that Orient Watches? you get more than what you pay for however Seiko? you pay more but get less". As an example: "Orient Nerw Triton" easily breaks "Seiko Tuna" or "Seiko Marinmaster" and in terms of price?, there we have the point of my statement, same thing regarding "Orient Ray II" or "Orient Mako II". Where I have only one complaint to the Orient management and this is the crown of the Watch, it is far too smal to be able to use it painlessly, So, Please Orient keep the model "Mako" II but upgrade the size of the crown then it will be a perfect Watch. Now I have to ask for a BIG Apology to the very nice guy who works at the nice and elegant Orient Shop, it's true, Watch enthusiasts have named the Orient FAA02009D9, for example, the Orient Mako II, BUT, We see the Delfines and not Sharks, on the other hand, the name Mako is assigned for another reason with is something much better than Shark, namely: " Sincerity"-something that is Honest and can be Trusted and that is what the Orient Brand is. Thank you so much that we got to experience of this Wonderful Orient Salon, Big Greetings to Japan.

Orient needs bolder designs, current design language is very safe and predictable, imho.
