- You can play more than just 7 chords in the Dorian mode. Using extended chords, you can take your songwriting to the next level. I'll show you exactly how to build these harmonies -- with examples of how they sound in a song.

Thanks for the great video - the Dorian mode is so beautiful and the extensions add so much to the musical pallette. Thanks again!
Clearest explanation I've ever found of extended chords. The diagrams help enormously to a beginner like me.
Thank you 🙂
Hey man! Glad to see a new video! I love all these, man. You explain the way my brain works and I love how well I understand things after your videos. Thanks, always!
Very cool, man -- thanks for your feedback! I'm glad this makes sense. The way your brain works is a reflection of how music is really structured. Cheers!
Thankyou so much I am gaining 🎉 more understanding 😅 to progress in piano and guitar😂🎸 God Bless Sheila Duke❤
Another great video, thank you. I 'sort of knew' this but the visualisation really cemented it into place. Specifically it really makes it clear that all the notes in a scale can be incorporated into a chord, and that chord is some version of the 13 chord. It is spread over 2 octaves - avoiding dissonance of adjacent notes - and that the first chord in D dorian - Dm13 - can also be thought of as a Dm chord with a CM7 chord stacked on top. Mind blown :D
Circle of 3rds??? There's no such thing!!!
So I understand, how do you mean?
Dorian, like every other mode major, is an asymmetric scale. It does not have 8 notes....it has 7. C Dorian is C D Eb F G A Bb ....NOT C D Eb F G A Bb C. Just like the major scale; 7 notes, not 8.
