That’s not the first time he does that, and it shows real intelligence. He definitely is not just repeating things. At what level he understands can surely be discussed, but he certainly understands a lot more than just repeating things. Of course Gizmo is not the first parrot to show this. Alex the grey parrot is knows to have asked one of very few existential questions among animals. He learned colors and then asked “what color am I?”. At the same time parrots fail the mirror test, which is commonly used to establish self awesomeness and the standardized test for other species that we measure them by. I think the mirror test mainly reflects human arrogance to be honest, and how we time and time again dismiss others and assume we are the only intelligent species or the only “special” ones.
He's extremely intelligent. He even sounds and talks like a normal person
Great show of intelligence! Loved it when he said that - almost like a parent giving a hint while helping their child study (all except for the “new math”… that stuff is just plain nuts! 😮 )

It's so sad, I was only ever around a bird like this a few times as a child and never again since; seeing happy and healthy birds and how they act makes me realize how stressed out the birds I saw as a kid were. Poor things. Ngl I've always been a dog guy, have two rescues rn, but I may have to switch to a bird when I'm too old for big dogs anymore! I'm absolutely in love with Giz!🧡
