I was conflicted when you said you’d try digital. I’m an artist too and my friends have suggested I try digital so I was glad to see how it went for you. First thought was, oh no, I’ll miss the sound of the pencil or pen on paper. ❤
The final drawing is beautiful though. I’m glad you tried it.

I think that digital is a completely different medium from paper even though both of them feel similar at first glance. I think it would be cool if you tried doing something on the ipad which would be impossible to do on paper, maybe that would make digital drawing more enjoyable as opposed to emulating what you already do on paper. Awesome drawing btw!

Your paper, pen and pencil art is what made me subscribe to your channel. Formerly I used the photoshop excessively until recently when the updates meant that I had to upgrade my computer. Well, I quit photoshop there and then because I didn’t want PS to dictate what I do to my computer. Since then, my moods and depression have improved. Just to think back, all that time I was unstable was partly because of the digital tool.
Traditional is way better because, to paraphrase, you did it instead of an algorithm. Thank you Mr Zak.
And paper can’t be hacked - fewer headaches!

I resonate with this a lot- especially when you said you were just wishing it was over already- but i’m coming from the other viewpoint, where i’ve been doing digital for a long time. you actually helped me get back into drawing on paper! and geometry!! i’ve been amazed at how much patience my adhd ass has had lately, being able to sit and draw for hours, even if i’m not listening to anything :O 😂
anyways, keep it up! as Qveen Herby always says, we need ur art 🤗 traditional or otherwise 👽🤘

I can SO relate. Having been in a band in the 90's, I thought I'd try again a handful of years back with a Digital Audio Workstation. It was hopeless....I was never satisfied, with the knowledge I could keep redoing a guitar part I kept doing it over and over, it didn't sound like me and I was never really able to do much digitally. I didn't get the editing or any of that. I came from an analogue background and that's what I liked best. I bought Procreate for my iPad 9 years ago and just never was able to get into it. I like the feel of a pencil or pen on paper. I'm an analogue dude through and through and I'm fine with that. LOVE the labyrinth, still haven't done it yet but will. Cheers

Your artwork is a huge inspiration for me to try to start drawing mandalas by again and not just digitally. You explain what you’re doing with such clear concepts that are very easy for me to understand. Bravo. 💜
I Zak! Good insight video. Somehow the digital breaks the analogic link: head + hand + tool + paper. The work becames less and less a craftsman work. In a sense, it is as if the sacred bond between man's nature and nature itself were broken. Greetings from Portugal.

Man I love your work!! I'm right with you on the paper and iPad thing. There is a certain intimacy when constructing the design that digital almost can't compete with. But Inking in procreate also has the intimacy but in a different way, instead of being a finalized line with pen and ink. Instead of the line being done and final, find the way your mind sees it and let yourself redo it as many times a as it needs. I need to make a video now >.

Le dessin sur papier est une vraie méditation, une manière d’entrer en soi-même et au cœur de sa composition… « une entrée en matière » avec les sensations du crayon grattant le papier et celles , plus intimes, de l’esprit qui crée… Je n’ai jamais essayé le numérique. Votre utilisation était intéressante, même si on avait l’impression de brûler les étapes, de ne pas vraiment « entrer dans le labyrinthe »… (parcourir celui de la cathédrale de Chartres, en France, est une expérience unique, qui vous transporterait encore plus avant dans vos magnifiques créations… - testé et intensément apprécié !-)… Merci pour vos partages inspirants 😁🙏
I understand completely what you mean. I've tried using the computer a few times for drawing and to be honest I always abandoned it for paper and pencil and ink. I'm sure if you get into it it's great but for me it was just getting in the way too much. I have to say you're very patient with it. I would have thrown it there and ran back to my pencils.

When you transfer to digital that element is lost.
I’ve often considered digital for speed but it’s the trilogy of the hand, heart and paper that leads us into higher creative dimensional states. This is why we feel so good when we create

Use a drawing glove when you draw on ipad it will save you from any miss clicks with your hand
I just got an iPad and Apple Pencil to use with procreate, it’s great for some things but man… nothing can replace pen and paper
Resonate with your process. The pressure to do things quicker is at the heart of modern life. I have used the iPad to try out different colours for a painting-in the prep/research stage-but never for a final piece. It feels too uniform, all the lines are the same thickness and you can’t see the evidence of the handmade. Plus, like you, I lose connection to the work.
