- Jericka Duncan is a CBS News national correspondent based in New York. Duncan has reported on a wide range of national stories and breaking news including; the shooting deaths of four Marines and a Navy sailor in Chattanooga, historic snow storms in Boston, and the 70th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy. More recently, she spent a month in Canada traveling with the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team documenting its run to the 2015 World Cup title.

I knew of Jericka Duncan from her work at Channel 4 CBS Buffalo back in the day; so happy for her that she went national. I always look forward to seeing her on the CBS Evening News, either as a correspondent or from the studio. I think she's classy, smart, professional, and exceptionally beautiful..

I watched her on WIVB-TV in Buffalo (where I used to work). I went into visit at the station and she was standing at the AD and I walked up beside her and told her "you have the talent now to work anywhere in the business" Nice to see she vindicated me LOL Great talent.

Dude, it's so cool to see you interviewing such awesome people. I love how Jericka talks about taking stories or situations that are given TO you, and still putting your unique stamp on them and telling those stories in your unique way. That's such a powerful message for everyone. And I don't just mean for those of us trying to tell stories - I mean that it's a hugely important and powerful outlook on life. We're "given" a lot of circumstances in life, and no matter what it is, we can CHOOSE to make that situation our own and LIVE that story in OUR unique way. I love Ms. Duncan, the main reason is because I dropped out of college in presuit of a communication degree. I admire what she does because I wanted to do the same. I am the brother and son to Virgo’s and they’re very serious about their craft. I often wonder if she can sing, seems like she has the perfect voice for it. I totally agree with her that she has the best job in the world ❕

I have come to admire Jericka Duncan as a journalist and a person who had to defend her profession to someone who was accused of sexual harassment, leading to his firing. She deserves the respect of her peers in journalism and the public. On a minor note, as someone who is from Aurora, OH, she accidently mentioned on CBS News This Morning Saturday that the now-defunct Geauga Lake amusement park was in Portage County when, actually, it was in Geauga County where her hometown is. Also, Portage County, OH is going towards Akron.

Hello Javier, watched the entire episode with Jericka while walking on the track in the gym.
Loved it. she seems like a great person, and passionate.
3 points. As an x filmmaker myself (BFA in FILM/TV from NYU 1979....) I was wondering about your cover 2 shot, in the picture, it looks as if she actually does not really look at you, but sits in a strange angle on the side. Also, your camera was somehow out of focus part of the time.
I saw that you use a small monitor in front of you while interviewing, is it for questions, or the talent camera monitor?

ooooooo love all these questions, thanks for watching btw! On the 2 shot I originally had everything setup so the cameras would be getting a side angle, she moved during the interview to that angle, As i'm more about the audio for the podcast I don't mind, whatever makes them comfortable.
2) My camera was on auto focus and I have to trust that it pics me up which it does 90% of the time but since Jericka was also in the frame of my shot, (I punched in in post) the camera wanted to focus on her, which again since I am a one man show I know no being in focus for my shot is annoying but if the audio is still there that is what I am most concerned with as well as actually conducting the interview. I know I could make it f/10 - f/22 but the camera isn't that good in low light.
3) the monitor, This is where I do not compromise audio or visual focus. The monitor is on the guest. I have a 50mm 1.8 on the guest and the a7iii does an amazing job pulling auto focus, (way better than my other cameras as you can tell) But I have the monitor there to make sure the camera stays in focus, the angle and audio on guest are what is most important to me right now, as budgets grow and I can afford better gear then these things will get better but since I can only afford xyz for a three camera setup, mics, recorder, then I cut my losses if one camera is out of focus.
hope that answers your questions, for the most part, the actual content and conversation trumps anything about visuals to me, I try as hard I as I can to do my best, but doing the interview itself takes up my concentration while recording.

Good luck on the podcast, it is some work but I think it is worth it. Jericka is awesome, glad she had time out of her very busy schedule to do this.
