  • We hired this Tahoe through Discount Florida Car Hire. Andy (the owner) offers a very personal service and we have never had any nasty surprises. Vehicle rental prices have always been very competitive and they also offer free Sat Nav with your rental too.

I almost cried a little when I filled the Ford Explorer up in Orlando which cost me around £36.. bearing in mind it costs me around £60-£70 to fill up in the UK!

It's an optional configuration. Some people just prefer bucket seats in the middle row for easier access to the third... Some people would rather have the extra seat.

I am actually very surprised at that mileage - it isn't nearly as bad as I thought! It was super comfortable, I can tell you, at least from the back seat! I'm still looking forward to the day when cars can drive themselves so I can take a nap while in Orlando traffic and I can tell the car to go park itself! :)

    • @largol33t1

That doesn't surprise me. My parents used to own one of these and I was an expert at SQUEEZING fuel out of that sucker. I could wring almost 18 miles per gallon out of it on trips around town. My dad with his lead feet? 13 mpg!! In fact, I squeezed fuel so well that I once sneaked the SUV out of the garage for a trip somewhere and only had to put a gallon in the tank to get the needle back to its original position. Mum didn't suspect a thing!

Don’t worry about flooding in Orlando most of the time as it tends to isolate to parts of downtown and maybe parts of the suburbs. The idea of the SUV isn’t really that bad though traffic can get quite hairy and you need the extra power to go through. The Car is actually pronounced you-kon as in the Canadian area by the way. I would have gone a little different way with a Toyota Avalon which despite it’s luxury car branding it’s got the kick and control of an SUV. Or the highlander maybe the 4Runner which are similar cars but their handling is different. Just an opinion. I’m just not really a fan of GM cars as they aren’t that good day to day. In Orlando flooding almost doesn’t exist except minor streets or if a water main breaks. If it does it’s usually north in lake county or near the beaches. It’s how our land is situated as we sit on a aquafier which is a natural drain. Rain absorbs fast into the ground which is mostly limestone allowing it to become drinkable over time hence how we get drinking water that and we have a really good drainage system in place that takes excess water out of the area and into central holding areas to be cleaned and used wherever. That’s why the water towers are in place. If you really want to know more about aquafiers go to the wekiwa state park which is a river system we swim and have fun on but is a giant aquafier system. You can even drink the water it’s that clean.

How was your experience with Alamo? Hired from Enterprise via booking.com this year and they were not great. Didn't understand my booking, didn't give me the sat nav & had to walk back and forth between the desk and pick up to sort it. Car was dirty and they fave me no instructions. Sat nav was so out of date it had Downtown Disney not Disney Springs!!

Um, watch the ENTIRE video. It pops up on the screen when he reversed it in the parking lot. The model he has seats 7 people. If you're lucky, you can ask the rental agency if they have any with a center bench seats. Those will seat 8 people, but from what others have told me, nobody 6 feet tall will be comfortable in the last row of seats on long trips!

Um, do you Brits NOT have Volkswagens over there? My VW key fob has that same red button and is almost the same as the one sold in the UK. It just has the steering wheel on the "wrong" side...
Land Rovers sold in North America also have this button. I'm surprised you mispronounced the name Yukon. It got its name from the Yukon Territory in Canada. In fact, some of GM's SUVs such as this are built in Ontario, Canada and shipped across the border so that may have influenced the marketing team when they searched for names for it. Be glad they didn't name it the Mississauga (which is also in Ontario)!
PS: a US gallon is 4 quarts. A BRITISH gallon is 4.8 quarts so the fuel economy on this giant isn't bad. I was expecting the computer to show less than 17 mpg, LOL...
