    Here is the problem, some people don't have the enzyme to deal with phytanic acid and they end up with phytanic acid build up in the body, Refsum disease, evidenced by itchy skin, heart pain, heart problems, fingers being stuck together, waking up with arms or legs having gone to sleep, and sometimes heart attack and death. If your body is functioning properly and can deal with phytanic acid, thank your lucky stars.

      it is very-long chain fatty acids and branched chain fatty acids.

      I'm a biotechnologist as well as forensic scientist I never studied biochemistry in detail but when I came in to my practical life I was asked to teach students of masters in biochemistry and u know what just because of ur lectures o have been able to teach biochemistry masters students and nobody could guess that I didn't have strong routine in biochemistry because I have been delivery every lecture of urs in the class its A to Z ur lecture .and alhamdulilallah I have been teaching biochemistry since last year and have been utilizing these lectures since an year .stay blessed .and u r my inspiration sir .u will alwaz b in my prayers

      Generally oxidation of unsaturated fatty acid not a high yield topic for exams, but I will try making a video on that topic.

      Calculation of ATPs ftom phytanic oxidation is more complex than oxidation of saturated fatty acids in mitochondria.

      It's converted into melonyl coA and finally in succinyl coA.. which goes into TCA cycle
