Thanks for the time notations. I keep going back to parts of this.
I'm working on learning this as my first full fingerpicking song.
I think once I can do this one well, I can learn anything.
It seemed almost impossible at first, but now it just seems hard.
      Josh plays so cleanly!

Hey man!!!! Dude thanks. I appreciate you. I hope people know you didn’t have to do this. I admit to being to lazy to figure it out. I actually learned it from the performance video you did with the other kid. Which was fine, I just had to apply a Bit of effort. Lol Then I saw this!!!! Man you break it down. Good on you. I have to admit two things: 1. As a lazy player who finds it hard to get time to learn; I THANK YOU! Sincerely I do. 2: I watched a lot of your stuff before I watched this lesson. Great Job man. Great job how long did it take you to learn this? This will probably be my quickest and fastest Pace song I will ever learn. You do not use finger pics? I’m trying to learn the thumb pick which I think I have it down pretty much and then the hardest finger pics I have several types. Are those your real nails and have you ever used finger pics if so which ones? What type of background music training and guitar do you have? Besides Dylan who are some of your guitar acoustic guitar idols that I’ve helped you to learn to Travis pick?

Would you consider adding a Paypal account and email address in all your "show more" sections, so that people could simply transfer money to you directly? That would be so simple, no extra time needed by you for rewards, no credit cards processed.. just transfer whatever someone feels they want to contribute to you via Paypal accounts. No way can you survive on what you are getting now. "... don't work harder.. they are not paying you enough". Love that.

    Hi Josh
I just discovered you a few days ago and I can't stop watching your videos. It is really great what you do.
I wonder how your arrangement process is. I am specially interested in the "Summertime" you recorded long time ago. Can you explain how you arranged it? Like where did you get the first chords from (I use real book chords but never get those nice arrangements, chords, etc. ). Do you start by some sheets and follow then by ear? Do you write the music down?. How do you think? How do you choose the chords?
This would be really helpful for me.
Anyway, and again, very nice what you are doing! Thanks for sharing these vids!
    Regards

Ruly Sire hahahaha I feel you

    • @trumpsahead
      @trumpsahead 4 роки тому +10

Well, you got the right attitude to suck at guitar.
Learning guitar or any instrument or anything, is to really want to learn it, commit, and focus on a course of how to learn and what to learn first, always focusing on whether you're learning properly, and keep correcting the course if you are not satisfied but don't give up, just keep correcting the course and practicing diligently. The first three months are a bitch because of finger pain on and off and can't play for days sometimes, feels like razor cuts on finger tips but it all passes after a while. It is worth it. I play several instruments but those nylon or metal strings on guitar resonate right into your heart and brain and ear and the ether.
Here's a tip: Learn classical fingerpicking style first because strumming with a pick is easier and if you learn that first you will never want to learn something so much more difficult. Fingerpicking is more satisfying when you use all your fingers you feel more intimate with guitar than using a pick closed fisted, but you will learn both anyway.
If you like guitar, be sure to learn to read music at the same time, this is best advice you will ever get. That TAB shit really sucks because you don't understand what you are doing but only following directions which is stupid.
Research, and learn. If you're not having fun, then you are doing something wrong or you have a defeatist attitude. ciao.

I think you might be trying to learn something particularly hard from a teacher who's assuming a fair amount of knowledge in his students. Try some of the other YT tutorials on this. A lot of them take it a lot slower and give you a much closer up view of what the fingers are doing. That's how I learned it, but, as a beginner, I'd have been lost with this lesson.

      Hey man,
Thanks so much. Glad you're liking the new channel. I recorded this with the zoom, which is placed just below the bottom of the frame, roughly by my knee. I then slapped a big old compressor on it to make my voice louder because the mic was closer to the guitar.
      Thanks! Josh

The way you do this tune is absolutely ace, but you teach it at a level that would probably be most accessible to somebody who is advanced enough to be able to figure this all out themselves anyhow. When you’re explaining the hammer ons and walk up, for example, it would be nice to just see a bit more slowly which string/fret/finger is involved in the walking etc. How this walk up is done is not obvious to me...and maybe not to most intermediate players? I’m the first to admit I could use more theory knowledge, but at the same time i know I could play this song today if I could see a few parts more clearly and slowly.

mysweetroux I just listen to it, pause, and figure out 3-4 notes at a time till I get his sound. I think that is a big key in becoming the next level... you gotta learn how to learn stuff haha. Sorry, not trying to be rude but the one-note-at-a-time lessons will be the ones that frustrate you if you just get this down. Makes learning a ton faster. Good luck! Tony

You can go to the settings tab and slow down to as much as 25% normal speed, pitch remains constant (though a little warbled at that speed). I use that function all the time when I'm trying to learn something. It works.

Hey man I agree with you and here's a link to tutorial that gets most of the song right and breaks it down insanely well if you're still interested in learning it. ua-cam.com/video/Ii0kyeghbuo/v-deo.html

For me the tell was in his comment @ 0:32 - even though he knows it's in the key of E and the root chord shape is "C" he says ............."I'm gunna be referring to things as C and G because that's the language that dumb guitar players speak".... Mmm from watching Josh play with his group and others, I see he is musically educated in a broad way and because I am NOT is NO reason to call me a "dumb guitar player". Thx Josh I'll be skipping your commontry from now on.

Hi Josh, sorry to bother you, but I just wanna say that you are unbelievable on guitar. You don't need to make a video for it (if you could that would be great) but is there anyway you could tell me where or how you learned to play "Sultans of Swing." I think that you did an amazing job playing it and I'm starting to like it better than the recording by the Dire Straits. If this is possible, it would be great. Thanks!

Dude this has helped so much. Anybody who was trying to finger pick based on ear and feeling, I would recommend following what Josh says here is the oldest trick in the book. It does the work for you. Still working on all those walk downs. I feel that high e string G7 hammer on and pull off and the one in the F (shapes) are most important. Anyway, thanks again for this!

God... he had to add "all guitar players". I apologize on their behalf. Obvious that you meant yourself aswell
