I've watched this video for a whole.afternoon With my suck English level. Although it's difficult to me ,i actually really really learn sth now and cool thibgs ,such as the right hand skills. Thank you 3000000000000000 times. LoL
Thanks for the time notations. I keep going back to parts of this. I'm working on learning this as my first full fingerpicking song. I think once I can do this one well, I can learn anything. It seemed almost impossible at first, but now it just seems hard. Josh plays so cleanly!
How good is a tutorial aimed at people that can already play guitar!? Just gets to the important, tricky bits. Not 50 sections note by note. Very refreshing
thank you so much for speaking with us as you do, so purposefully, yet eloquently and kindly. And most certainly with intellingence! All of these characteristics resound in your playing, by the way.
I've been playing the classical guitar for 15 years and I am amazed by the clarity of your explanations and the musicality of your playing. Keep it up, you're amazing.
Best instruction on the net on this iconic song .. clear and easy to follow.. now if I could just convince my hd - 28 to play like he does I would find nirvana .. nicely done my man😂
Thank you for this excellent well-done tutorial. It's great that you took the time to share your knowledge with us. And you are a great easy to follow teacher!
Your cover of this song inspired me to learn more fingerpicking techniques a while back because you made it look so effortless. Please continue to do lessons once in a while! It's like a fun behind-the-scenes glimpse into your covers.
Yah I've been playing this song since it came out this kid is a wonderful player and a very good teacher. I don't understand the negative comments at all as a fellow guitarist you should watch and play with better player to get better well done Josh
Three years later and this video is kil ling it for me. Thanks for making amazing, humble, easy-to-understand tutorials like this for somewhat beginners like me. This blew me away compared to others.
Glad I found you JOsh. Great teacher, great video, great player. I play full time at all the bars in NYC for 30 years. This is a huge help. Videos like this. Thank You.
Thank You For Sharing Your Artistry With So Many - My Son Plays and I am going to share this with Him once Again Thank You Young Josh and God Bless You on Your Musical Journey......
Josh you are a credit to your parents, the way you share your gift of music with others less fortunate, like me, Im a 67 year old fart who loves singing and playing guitar , but I am lucky enough so be so gifted as to be equally rubbish on both, I have recently watched your video on the zoom mic and have just bought the zoom h2n so heres hoping, thanks again from Garry in the UK
You are an incredible guitar player and this is a beautiful rendition. With that said, this is so hard! I’m gonna keep practicing and I will revisit this lesson in a month or so :)
Dude this has helped so much. Anybody who was trying to finger pick based on ear and feeling, I would recommend following what Josh says here is the oldest trick in the book. It does the work for you. Still working on all those walk downs. I feel that high e string G7 hammer on and pull off and the one in the F (shapes) are most important. Anyway, thanks again for this!
my take was how simple and concise. I never got lost in your tutorial and found your manner natural and regular,. Not stilted and pretentious as with me. I wanted to say this was the easiest to follow guitar lesson I have seen. so w-what was my surprise when I read some of the slighting comments.
Oh!!!!! Also: I just got tickets to see Dylan at the Tower theater outside Philadelphia!!!! November 12 2017.Not a bad seat in the house!! But I am pretty close anyway!! That’s how I came across this. I was brushing up on my Dylan. Thanks again brother. Peace.
I know this is years old but your cover inspired me to learn this song and cover it myself. And not only do you have, in my opinion, the best cover on youtube of this song, but also the best lesson on the beautiful guitar part
Fabulous demo and lesson. Love all the embelishments you show to basic strum/pick of song. Really admire all the stuff you do with Carson and friends. Cheers.
Thanks Josh, will give it a try. Writing from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Always great to see you and Carson play in UA-cam, hope have a chance to see you live some day.
I am not sure if it`s you or the song, or the combination but you calmed me down with this lesson. I will learn it some day but for now. Thank you sir.
Josh, you are a GOD> I adore you and the way you play. Never saw on of your tutorials before. Man, YOU ROCK!!!!! Plus your voice couldn't be any better. Wish you tried out for American Idol or the Voice.
Many thanks Josh, you're a genius, I had known the chords for ages, but just couldn't suss out the picking pattern and overlay. Love this song, and now I can play it properly, though not as well as you. Respect.
Hi Josh I just discovered you a few days ago and I can't stop watching your videos. It is really great what you do. I wonder how your arrangement process is. I am specially interested in the "Summertime" you recorded long time ago. Can you explain how you arranged it? Like where did you get the first chords from (I use real book chords but never get those nice arrangements, chords, etc. ). Do you start by some sheets and follow then by ear? Do you write the music down?. How do you think? How do you choose the chords? This would be really helpful for me. Anyway, and again, very nice what you are doing! Thanks for sharing these vids! Regards
Best lesson on this song. Accessible for anyone who wants to give it a go! Take no notice on all the negative comments...they're just jealous! You're very talented!
Hold my beer! Jokes aside, thank you very mutch Josh. No seriously, when I first heard you with Carson, you had me. You both feel what you are doing. That is so inspiring that I pulled out my Neligan and started playing again after years. What can I say, it was the best decision I've made in years. Keep it up, you are outstanding.
What a great video Josh. I'm forever slowly learning finger style and your tutorials are great and very clear to follow. Your performances and along with your colleagues are also top watches. Keep them coming. A big thanks.
Hey Josh, thanks for this video!! You take music that sounds nearly super-human and bring it down to an understandable mortal level. I'll watch this about 200 times so that I can learn all that you've packed in (I'm a bit of a slower learner). Appreciate you taking the time to teach this arrangement.
It's harder than it looks ! And it looks pretty hard ! One day I'll play that song like you. Until then, I'll come back to that video every so often, start learning, and give up.
Gosh this is just an epic tune... I would count this as a major accomplishment to learn. It really suits your voice as well. Thanks for the lesson, awesome as usual Josh!

Wow what a sound
I hope you play John Denver songs someday. What a match made in heaven: your solid playing great voice and his material.
You should do a lesson or walk-through on the vocal harmonies you used on this song, they were so incredibly perfect.
It's harder than it looks ! And it looks pretty hard ! One day I'll play that song like you. Until then, I'll come back to that video every so often, start learning, and give up.
