    Very well built pack. It’s just way to heavy for what you get

    You did not mention if the pack was comfortable with heavy weight.
    I notice the belt and shoulder straps looked thin. But i m reconsidering this pack.

      Sorry it took me a bit to get back to you Cordelmar. The pack does a nice job when weighted down, but as you mentioned, it might help if the straps were a bit wider. I feel like it's really hard to find the "perfect" pack, especially at a reasonable price point like this pack is. However, the utility of this pack has been nice, although I will admit, the straps get an 8/10 for ergonomics here. That's a guys honest two cents....

      I like the pack, i like the fact that pack stays flat and small until you need it, and can carry some snack bars,clothing etc but, not wanting to criticize your pack but i notice some things. For instance you show that wile hunting you can carry spotting scope, tripod, shooting sticks on the out side pouches, were do you carry all that stuff wen you pack the deer meat, the straps instead of been attach to the inner side of the side pouches, they are on the outside so wen you tighten the meat load if you have all that equipment there you wont get a tight grip on the meat cousin it to shift hurting your back and shoulders. If this company could make those corrections including wider shoulder and more padding it would be a great pack and i for one will buy it. Thank you.

      I wish I could reply with a picture. This year in Idaho I had 4 boned out mule deer quarters, backstraps, and tenderloins, spotting scope, tripod, bog pod, first aid kit, gps, rifle, two head lamps, extra batteries, 2 L water in a hydration bladder, knife, paracord, rain coat, beanie and gloves all in the main beam. Was it comfortable, hell no. Did I have any room left, not a bit, but I made one trip out of it. The Full Curl pack definitely would have been a better tool on that outing, but people seriously underestimate how much you can put on these packs. Best of luck and thanks for watching, Ty.

      Thanks for the reply Ty!
      I sometimes use a Badlands 2200 and that will hold a surprising amount of gear and meat as well, yet i almost always find i'm grabbing my old packframe for a second haul back to base camp.
      The HH Main Frame is sure enough a nice lookin outfit and if i was still running down cats and coyotes i;d probably head in to town and try one on....like i said...really good review amigo!...atvb...woods

      No problem, sorry it took a bit to reply. I used to use the 2200 from Badlands as well. It was a pretty comfy pack, but I hear you, sometimes a good old pack frame is just hard to beat! Thanks again, good luck!

    Would this be able to pack out deboned deer hindes, straps/filets, and front quarters?

    • @the-mountainlife
      @the-mountainlife  4 роки тому

      If you didn’t have much in the interior of the pack and everything was deboned, yes. I have done it, but fair warning it wasn’t super comfortable with a full deer on the pack. The full curl pack would be much better suited for this.

    Just recently came across the Horn Hunter packs. How does the main beam compare to the Badlands 2200? I saw that you used to use the 2200 and I was curious what made you sell it for the main beam instead.

    Looks like an awesome pack! Hopefully they have some fanny packs because that's all I need to pack out the dinky, undersized, spikes that I shoot every time I go hunting...apparently. ;)

      Ha ha, that's hilarious I love it! And yes, they do have fanny packs if you want one. In fact, they have one called the "spike," which makes your comment even more funny. The promo code is good for anything on their site, enjoy!

    How did it hold up to packing out that elk?

    • @the-mountainlife
      @the-mountainlife  7 років тому

      It did great, I packed out a hind quarter of that spike and it worked out really well. It would be a lot of weight for the bottom four straps to handle, that's why I try to put the quarter a little higher on the pack and then made the bottom compression strap really tight to help support the weight (if this doesn't make sense, it' what I'm talking about at the 3:30-4:00 mark). Hope this helps, thanks for watching!

    I'm 5"5 will this pack be big on me and I'm still growing do you recommend it still for me considering my height

      @the-mountainlife  7 років тому

      Joey, I would absolutely recommend this pack for you. If you had asked about the Full Curl, for example, I might be hesitant to recommend that to someone who might be worried about a large pack. But this should work well for you!

      Hey thanks for the info. I am looking for a affordable pack with a tie down system like the one your showing and can take the meat weigh. Can you recommend any other brand. Again thanks.

      No problem, sorry it took a little bit to get back to you. I have really liked this pack. I used to use a Badlands Super Day pack and a Badlands 2200 as well. Not to discredit Badlands, but after seeing how this pack worked I sold both of my Badlands packs and have really enjoyed the Main Beam ever since. Just curious, what was it about this pack that has you looking for another brand?

    • @cordelmar
      @cordelmar 8 років тому

      The price. I already own two expensive packs. I stay out in the back country from 4 to 6 days so i take large pack (5500 sq ch) for all the gear i need including camera,tripod, spotting scope etc. So i can't take another full size pack on me. I looking for a light cheap pack with two pockets for snacks an some gear, that can handle about 30 to 40 pounds so i can pack out the meat to the truck then come back for the camp gear and take it out with the main pack.
      I call it the two pack system. Your pack does the job fine but its expensive. I saw a video on how to dress out a deer and at the end the guy used a pack that looked to me to be an alps pack with a flap down and can straps around the meat firmly, it looked perfect but he did no mention the brand and i cant find it any were.
      So i am still looking.

      Hi cordelmar,
      it sounds like you and I have a similar style of hunting, it always makes for a good time, but does take some coordination of making trips in and out, packing, etc...I wonder if you have looked at the Full Curl pack from Horn Hunter? I ask because it is really meant as a modular system or pack that sounds like it would suit your purposes well. It can be used as basically a frame with a meat hauling shelf, or you can also throw a huge storage bag on it to take your clothes and other gear, and it also has a day pack that comes with it. It's basically three different packs in one. Realistically you may be able to sell your other two packs as I did, and use just one....might be worth a look, here's the link. Just FYI promo code: THEMOUNTAINLIFE will get you 15% off this pack as well.... Let me know what you think. hornhunterpacks.com/product/full-curl-system/
