Please state the nature of the asteroid emergency. Robert Picardo as the doctor is my favorite character from Star Trek. More from him in a PR sense would go a long way to help awareness in the talks given by the volunteers.
Couldnt click faster cause i love Amy. Shes so bloody beautiful. And i imagine when she'll talk with Picardo it will be amazing as we get to see her twice. Once with her standing there, and again in his shiny bald head :) Edit: Well they were sitting down but still wasnt disappointed :)
I heard this discussed recently, I think it was on an episode of Infinite Monkey Cage from a few years back, and it was fascinating! They have telescopes out there looking for asteroids. The telescope just watches to see what asteroids it spots. Every time it finds one, they compare that to the list of known asteroids. At the beginning the list of known asteroids is small and most asteroids you find are not on the list so you know there are lots more asteroids to discover. Over time, that gradually changes. Nowadays, most of the asteroids that the telescopes discover are actually ones that we already knew about. Doing a bit of maths, we can estimate the proportion of asteroids that have been discovered, based on the proportion of discoveries that are repeats. :)
No talk about sending a satellite to, just say orbit at a Venusian Lagrange point, so that we can see asteroids coming from the direction of the sun and get a warning there?
mon librepenseurs, this was fantastic! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_meteor_air_bursts one look at that page, and the statistical futures model presented by Adam Frank and the sidepanel at that Space Defense Program, it shows you just how scary "nature's nukes" could be... Scott Manley likewise reflect on several other project, so it would to be great to see Scott Manley on a planetary society vid. bonne chance a vous mon librepenseurs!
We are planning now to move an asteroid to be mined in cislunar position. It is part of the space gateway and proving ground. If we can control this mass it will show techniques in moving a more hostile asteroid. Target date possibly by 2028.
Yay, Amy is back! :-D

I love these vids. I lap them up! Space and science is our future. All the best from UK. :D
"Cheapest sample return ever", hah :)

how can we say 90% of the big asteroids have been discovered? How could we possibly quantify it?

So they're estimating that we have found 90% of the "really big near-Earth asteroids" _that are discoverable with current technology_?
The same way we know Ceres has 70% of the mass of the asteroid belt or that a planet 9 exists without actually seeing it.
4:42 was positively hilarious! The good doctor could make quite the co-host. Still no Picardo's Pic?!
This show is by far my favorite thing to watch on UA-cam. On netflix is Star Trek Voyager. Docs my favvv
is it possible to just slow the meteor down that it will become a moon of the earth?
