That’s funny!! If I have a Crankbait that looked like I was practicing casting in my driveway because the fish were eating it like crazy I would have several of them. And the boat analysis was great because when I buy something I am going to use it to its full potential and then some. I laughed when I first had my truck and someone asked me if I was sure I wanted to put the material in the bed, because it might scratch it. At this point there is more metal showing than paint in the bed and it has over 250K on it and has been a lot of places doing things I thought might not happen the way I wanted it to. Bottom line, if it works use it that’s why you pay the money for it. If it wears out doing what it’s supposed to then it’s money well spent.
I've only had one SK squarebill that didn't run right out of the package. I've had hundreds of them. Never had any issues with Strike king tackle in general. Pretty much all I use.
I saw a show one time from either Bill dance or Rowland Martin that tuned a crank bait to run left and run right to go under the dock on the left side and right side, but those were the old days
great video when i fist started fishing the hybrid hunter i though i need to tune but now i have been fishing it for a while i love that bait i keep it tied on
Man I had a crankbait I been using for over 5 years almost no paint on it. I loved that thing so proud of how many fish that thing had caught. I ended up breaking on my trolling motor yesterday like dam I am gonna miss that thing. Opened up a new one hopefully it will look like that in a little while
I always check how my crankbait runs never much of an issue. But I hate re-tuning a Buzz Bait after a handful of good ones eat it. I'll just tie on a new one.
Strike King has some unique and great crankbaits. The Series 4, 5, 6xd, 8xd,10xd and Gravel Dawg (not counting the Bubba/Hybrid Hunter in this example because they aren't crankbaits and the only competition they have is a 6th Sense bait that sucks in comparison) are all truly unique and are baits that I feel are must haves. Them and some the Rapala cranks will always be in box. Not everyone of them must be tuned and whoever thinks that is a tard. I'm way too meticulous and nerd out really hard on fishing, probably to the point of being ridiculous and unnecessary. So given that caveat, for me roughly 2 out of 5 run perfectly out of the box. Of the remaining 3, usually 1 can be tuned/modified to run as good or better than the 2 good ones, whether that means adjusting the line tie, breaking out a file or sandpaper, or externally weighting/floating very specific spots. The other 2 might as well be thrown away, you can get them to run true but they won't have that "it" factor and are not worth the time to get them there, especially given that they're not that expensive. To be very specific, I don't think a crankbait tracking true is necessarily a good thing, it needs to be erratic and have the "hunting" type of movement without blowing out or tracking in only direction. But, that isn't specific to crankbaits, or even fishing products, it's a minor tradeoff with anything that is mass produced. I also don't mind paying $20 for a JDM crank, whether fishing product or not, the Japanese have less "bad" products per batch, as they're undeniably better at mass producing quality given their ability to run production at higher tolerances. There's a reason there are 40 year old Toyota trucks still running on the same engine with well over 500k miles. Back to baits, usually if I buy 3 OSP or Duo Realis cranks, all 3 will be perfect. I've actually never had to tune or work on any of them to get them to run right. That said, just because a bait is $20 doesn't mean it's better than a cheaper one. As I said earlier, some of the Strike King baits are must haves and at certain times will out catch the $20 bait 100 to 1. However, even though the price of the JDM crank is $20 each(depending on brand), overall they're actually about the same price as Strike King, Rapala, etc. Example: Buy 5 Strike Kings for $45 total price vs 3 Duo Realis cranks for $45 total price or 5 Rapalas for $60 total price vs 3 OSP cranks for $60 total price. Given that I'm usually only keeping 3 of the 5 Strike Kings or Rapalas and with OSP or Duo all 3 are keepers, in the end, I got 3 baits for the same price. This isn't to knock Strike King or Rapala, a 6xd has probably won more tournaments than any other deep crank on the market and the DT6 or 10 has probably won more than any other mid diver. As for the guy tuning every crankbait he gets, he either has the worst luck in the world and only gets lemons or is full of shit.
I have bunch of yellow magic top waters retired, they aren't cheap. But, if I'm fishing. I got to have it tied on it's a confidence thing. It catches fish.
I wish I had a box full of baits with the paint wore off from catching fish. I guess it's the same people complaining that they only caught 2 fish on a soft plastic and it was tore up. If I catch one fish per soft plastic and replace and never complain! I'm catching, I don't care!
You’d be surprised how many people call about paint after catching 100 fish on it. They will tel you it’s 2 years old and caught hundreds and we’re like OK
You say look at the wall like I haven't tried to zoom in on that wall to see what color and style you throwing, To be honest the first bait from strike king that don't run straight out the package is the new gravel dog, I bought 2, ( always buy 2 to start, ) one ran great, one i can't get to run straight. Yes I can prob tune it. But I am just saying I never have to out the package,
Rapala cranks seem to be the brand that is usually in tune out of the box, otherwise I find myself needing to tune them half the time, they are so much better than they were in the 80’s !
If you smack the hybrid hunter junior on the water to get grass off like a lazy person (plus the bait should clear the grass during the retrieve), I have seen someone crack the bill off. But what do you expect smacking it like that
I'm looking at a HH full size at this exact moment with a broken bill from last weekend. I have broken two HH junior bills in the last year. Oh by the way, I was staring at my FFS and ran the one last weekend through my trolling motor on 70. Smashed one on a dock and slapped the other against my windshield. LOL!
When the alphabet crank baits came out in the early 70's there were problems with the deeper diving baits.wanting to rollover (more so than the shallow models).. You could tweak the eye to get it to run straight until you caught a fish. Then you had to tweak it again. Back then if you had one that ran perfect. you fished it only in tournaments even though you had 5 more in the same color. Guess the quality of the molds, etc were not what they are now.
I do have to tune crankbaits from time to time even the DT series that Rapala claims are all tank tuned. I don't understand why somebody complains about that or why some people claims it never happens. These are mass produced baits... I've bought custom hand carved crankbaits for a bunch of money back in the day and some of them you'll never get to run right. It's so simple to tune a crankbait and you'll have to do it sometimes it's not a big deal and if it is fishing probably ain't for you... I miss the 8 cent worm bars that needs to have a comeback!!! LOL
With modern manufacturing processes, most crankbaits run true out of the box. It was a little different 40 years ago with more rudimentary manufactoring. Things like the Big O or the original wiggle wart were more likely to need tuning out of the package.
No matter what company you buy, you'll always get a few that need to be tuned a little out of the package. I find they get bad when it's a new release bait. No matter what company.
There’s no such thing as perfect. So many believe there is but unfortunately it’s not. I’ve purchased great tackle and not so great tackle. I deal with it, adjust and use it. If I can’t get it to work, I’ll trash it and get something else.
I remember when the gravel dawg just came out I bought every color of the 8 and 10s. Half the 8s would not tune at all. After looking closer to it the line tie on those were loose for some reason. Like you said bad batches happen. I think i asked you about it on a comment. Got in touch with strike king and let them know. Since then i bought every color again in the 8s and they all run true. My mind set is to let the company know all the specifics of a problem, where and when i bought them so they can see if it was a bad batch of adheisive, hardware or made the machine making it. Like you said every now and again you may get a bad one, whether it,s a 8 dollar Strike King or 24 dollar mega bass.
Especially on the first batch, I’ve seen that have the most problems. You’d be surprised at the links we go to within the company and it’s so hard to test that first batch fully.
@toddcastledinefishing5924 yep. Whatever caused that problem has been fixed and the only time I have to tune them or just about any strike king crankbait is when I hang them up and use a plug knocker to free it up. And to be honest I don't know why I buy 3 of each color in both the 8 and 10s since I will throw the 10s in etream shallow water anyway. On that note, do you think the fish really care about the bill size difference?
Crazy I’m the same way!! It was the sweet shad that I got from them. It will blow out to the point it rolls over but the eye was perfect. So I just slow roll it. And it’s fine.
Todd what is the best SK CB for speed cranking in 8’to 15’ feet of water I’m trying to find one without spending 200$-300$ to find the right one. If you can let me know I appreciate it greatly brother 🙏🏼🤙🏼
Did someone actually complain about the paint rubbing off a bait from catching 100 fish??? In my opinion, those are the baits that have close to perfect action, sound and size. Maybe I’m wrong but that’s kinda how I see it.
Buddy and I drove 9 hrs to fish w a guide.. we each caught 1 small fish. But we did watch the guide drag in a 6lb and an 8lb.. that was not worth the money. 60 fish for $500 I would gladly pay..

I agree. I never have to tune any of the XD series. They run straight out of the box. I've caught countless 8-9 .5 lb bass on a 6XD.
I usually don't tune. If it runs left or right I'll use that to get under cover. Not that hard to bend the eyelet if needed tho.
great video when i fist started fishing the hybrid hunter i though i need to tune but now i have been fishing it for a while i love that bait i keep it tied on
No complaints. The series 3 and 4 video helped me try something different. Caught fish, thank you! Didn’t tune a thing
Tuning a bait is something I don't even give a second thought to, if it happens it happens, I can't remember the last time I had to tune one.
Man I had a crankbait I been using for over 5 years almost no paint on it. I loved that thing so proud of how many fish that thing had caught. I love crankbaits.i catch huge monster bass on them.

Sound is great today.
😂😂😂 didn’t change a thing
@@toddcastledinefishing5924 Something changed. Maybe UA-cam saved the day for you :P
So glad you mentioned keeping the bait that had a championship day of catching fish and hang it on the wall of fame
I have bunch of yellow magic top waters retired, they aren't cheap. But, if I'm fishing. I got to have it tied on it's a confidence thing. It catches fish.
I have buddies who like the redeye when the paint comes off. They purposely ding up new ones to get it to start peeling.
I wish I had a box full of baits with the paint wore off from catching fish. I guess it's the same people complaining that they only caught 2 fish on a soft plastic and it was tore up. If I catch one fish per soft plastic and replace and never complain! I'm catching, I don't care!

They're some baits that I'll scuff the paint up on them before even trying them.

Most times i have an issue with the bait ....the bait being clean
... I'm trying to run it way to fast.
👍👍👍👍👍
I tune norman cranks the most.most all others have very little problem.
Rapala cranks seem to be the brand that is usually in tune out of the box, otherwise I find myself needing to tune them half the time, they are so much better than they were in the 80’s !

True. I still throw more Cordell than most and they still aren't that great lol but nostalgia and price keeps me coming back.

Hey Todd, I think they may not know what the baits supposed to do or maybe the way they store it if they have to tune it. Idk?? Have a great day sir!!
Have you used the new SK Hardliner flat side crank much?
Out of all me hybrid hunters and I have two of almost all the colors only one that I got from bass pro runs not like the other ones.

Hey Todd, don’t put your worn out baits on a wall. Just send them to me so I can get the last gasp of use they have. 😂
Will do

Only time I have to tune a CB is when it’s my fault. I think some people don’t understand hunting action and want it perfectly straight burning it 😂😂
I never give a thought to tuning a crank bait. 95% of my baits are SK, I take’em out of the pkg. and they work. Tuning a crank bait…whatever!!
I will have to say, every hard bait I've ever broken, has been my own fault. I'm way too rough on them, and I pay for it. Literally haha
When you by cheap blanks from China and you paint them your self well ya you need to tune them. Da....
,😂
