What is he says at the end is 100% true. The whole discussion doesn't lead anywhere because people don't care about actually helping poor people/refugees, all they care about is impressing others with their "strong" and "educated" opinions. Before they talked shit about refugees, they talked shit about gypsies, before that about russians, before that about turks and before that about unemployed.

I think we always forget how inept most old people are with modern technology (especially if they have some form of memory loss), what is obviously a scam for us probably seems legit to them, which is why most scams prey on them. I think most people will agree that people who scam old people are the scum of the earth

In my hometown we had neighbors for 2 years which would illegally breed dogs, we live in the Netherlands everything here is densely populated. So we live with 8 houses in a row all with a backyard and this guy just starts breeding dogs in the middle of the rows, leaves shit outside doesn't clean it etc. After a while their breeding business failed because they kept the dogs mostly in cages and one pair breeding wasn't cutting it because they weren't pure bred. So what they do next? Adopt dogs from asylums and then sell them, eventually people started showing up at their door and they would fake that they are not home. So my mom of course invited all those people over everytime it happened and took a report of them for a civil suit.
Eventually they stopped doing the breeding because the township sent over people to investigate their backyard and occasionally check it, we have thing called dog tax so when they found 10 dogs it was a big bag for the local government. Then their only source of income selling adopted dogs to people on online market websites was gone, so the next logical thing what every human being would do is illegally wiretap the powercable of the local energy company. What happened? 2 weeks later the local energy company dug up the power cable and cut it, then they checked the wiring and the electrician said it was wired to almost explode that's how poorly the neighbor jerryrigged it. This guy was so petty that when an ex of him had a car crash and died he would post nasty remarks or stories about her online. Which eventually led till a point that he was banned from living in a certain local government because the entire town hated him and the family of the ex wanted to hurt him with many others included. After 2 years he got banned from our local government as well and fcked off to somewhere else
TL;DR Some people are just scum

In greece in the train (not the metro surprisingly) people come and ask for money all the time and you never know who will use your money for what(drugs or actually buy food etc). So as a rule of thumb i dont give any money to anyone i dont know.

My 88 year old grandmother gets calls like this all the time because of her ancient sounding first name that can be found in the telephone book. Fortunately she is still very clear in the head and when she gets calls like that she makes fun of the people.
One time a woman called her for example and claimed she is from the police. She said they need her exact address because there are robbers in her area so they want to send a police officer to take her valuables like money, jewelry and stuff like that to bring it to a safe place for her.
She just answered: Don't worry, when somebody tried to rob me the last time my boyfriend beat him up very hard and threw him from the balcony of the 6th floor. When he hit the ground the real police was already waiting for him. Goodbye!
