The Haenyeo, or female divers, may look like elderly women with visible signs of aging and wrinkled skin on land.
However, once they dive deeper into the water, their agility becomes remarkable, akin to mermaids gracefully navigating the ocean.
This ancient profession passed down for over 2,000 years, employs sustainable practices and traditional diving methods.
Their cultural importance led UNESCO to register them as a world cultural heritage in 2016.

This documentary is fascinating. Why don't the women wear scuba diving tanks? This is a very inspiring story of what elderly woman are capable of doing to support their family. These strong women prove that age should not be a hindrance when you have to do what you need to do to survive & support your family.
