I think the biggest problem with TO was--he wanted a ring. And, if he ever perceived that he could not get it, then he soured*. B. Sanders quit instead, but both had the same effect on their teams! But. as far as talent, he could do it all very good or better(including catching later)!
*I don't believe he would have behaved like that had Young or Montana been his QB for an extended period. I believe if it was SF playing the Broncos in 98 with the big game ability of Owens and Rice and having Hearst healthy to run the ball--they would have gotten it early on and you wouldn't have had the drama later.
I was too young to watch him play his first years at SF. But the fact the man caught a pass, sat it down mid field in their logo; MID play is rediculous
