Also, use a push stick when running the table saw for the small pieces. There's a chance you touch the blade and it delays the project that day. You can get one that automatically stops when it hits flesh and then you won't need a push stick. Use a credit card if you must.
I got the glass from a restaurant my company bought. I got a ton of free glass there and designed this tank based on what I recovered. These panes are tempered and almost 1/4" thick. You can also buy similar pieces online for about $90 each if you're wealthy enough.
The tank is doing well. I've had it going for almost a year now. Plywood is definitely the best thing for space and cost. I wish I could build another. Thank you for watching.
Also, you're gonna want to purchase all materials from stores. Don't wait a year to gather reclaimed materials from random places. Use a credit card if you must.
Also, get started right away if someone offers you fish because the fish need more room to grow. The fish will become impatient as the project slowly progresses. A blue crab from the river should make it about 2 months in there when you're done.
This was a pretty cheap build overall at less than $300. I based the design off the glass I recovered for free and snagged most of the wood for free as well. The hardware, paint, epoxy, etc. was to blame for the cost. I'm very happy with the end result but it took me a long while to throw it together. Thanks for watching.
Yes. Both the epoxy and silicone are aquarium safe. The epoxy is typically used for koi ponds and the silicone is specifically for aquariums. This epoxy was the only one i could find that claimed silicone would seal to it. I haven't had any issues and recommend both products.
Here is the link for the song: freesound.org/people/BaDoink/sounds/532359/ Listen to BaDoink, Great music (I had the name wrong I guess) The glass seems to be about 1/4" but is second hand so I'm not exactly sure.
They are small by themselves but together these braces can support an Elephant. A gallon of water weighs 8.34 lbs. That's only around 2,500 lbs. total.
@@dustintheriverrat First I thank you for your response. Your fish tank is very beautiful. I want to make one, but in my country, the wooden fish tank is almost never done, and is very primitive. There are very few references available

You're obviously not a fish. They love the cover and the natural wood filtration. I added an 8 foot shop light from the ceiling and the tank looks even better. Awesome view from any side. My tank is bigger than yours.
@@dustintheriverrat lol while your tank is bigger than mine at the moment mine will be bigger than yours. I’m in the process of a 500 gallon after Christmas. But I still won’t put trees in it. If I wanted a murky moat I’d build a pond in the back yard.
@haterbro Good luck on your project. Send me a pic of the finished piece after you reclaim the materials and design and build a unique ecosystem. It only takes about a year once you have everything in hand. I can't wait to see your pristine set up. Let me know if you have any questions once you get going.

Of all the wooden tanks on youtube this is the most beautiful that i've seen !!
Just exactly what I've always wanted to do in my greenhouse. Great vid
nice job Dustin.

Would have been better without the music.
If it's too loud, you're too old
@@dustintheriverratvolume isn’t the issue. Bad music sounds best when muted! 🥲
Nice tank. Would have loved to watch the build process in detail. Music was horrid so I used the mute button!
Thanks for watching. I hope all is well when you get your ears checked out at the doc. Good luck.
What type of glass did you use? I want to do something similar to this but I don't know where I could buy glass.

How’s the Tank doing these days. Would like to see an update. Been thinking about a similar project but space is the issue at the moment besides $.

what was the song specifically and how thick was the glass? did you reinforce with screws/nails or just silicone?

What did this cost you?
@beauty.brains.sarcasm I only purchased the paint, epoxy, silicone and some hardware. The glass and wood were reclaimed/free. I would say about $200
Do you have plans available!
No, but I can answer any questions you may have. Check out Trafish Aquatics as he does similar in greater detail.
i probably would have watched it if it wasn't for the music
Thanks for trying to watch. I appreciate the attempt. It def ain't for everyone. Have a good one.

No, black water is not the only way.
Ahhh. So you're one of those black water haters? I better get a salt water tank and clean it daily. Salt life bro!

I want something similar
Looks a little bit bigger than 300
It is closer to 350, but it is shallow so it looks bigger
All looked great til you dumped the trees in it. Might as well made a pond outside. You can’t see in the tank.
